Work Text:

Standing in the doorway, I watch as Tenna paces around the house, gathering all sorts of little things to take along. Usually it’s me he waits for, and this sudden change of roles feels almost amusing. But soon enough, he takes my arm, beaming with excitement, and begins to lead me toward his “special place,” telling me along the way how he discovered it. Carried away by his stories, I don’t notice at first that we’ve already entered the Waterfall. It’s a part of it I’ve never seen before, yet, to my surprise, Tenna walks with confidence. Before long, the sound of water and the echo flowers fade away, and we find ourselves in a narrow passage that seems to be going uphill. We weren’t in the highest part of the Waterfall, that much was clear, but this didn’t feel like just another climb to the next level.Tenna spoke less now, letting the glow of his screen light our way. I simply walked along, enjoying his company. About ten minutes later, everything was swallowed by darkness, so complete that even Tenna’s light was hard to make out. I gripped his hand tighter, unwilling to lose him. The darkness vanished as suddenly as it had come, giving way to a growing brightness ahead. Step by step, it drew nearer, until we finally stepped out of the little cave into what seemed to be a forest. At first, I thought this was what Tenna wanted to show me: a new forest, one I might even report about in the news. But then I looked up and understood. The sky. Vast, endless, scattered with countless tiny, bright-white stars. I froze, staring upward in awe. Tenna chuckled, “You look so amazed, and we haven’t even reached the real spot yet!”. I looked at him as he held out his hand again, guiding me a little deeper into the forest. Soon, we came to a river. In its clear waters the sky was mirrored, and suddenly I could see twice as many stars. Tenna’s eyes lingered on me. He looked proud, delighted, it seems like everything is written on my face. After a pause, he offered to tell me more about the sky and its stars. I gladly agreed. And so, with that breathtaking view before me, I listened to the voice of the one I love, sharing with me all he knew. And it turned out, he knew quite lot.
