It was a bright and cheerful day in the teachers’ lounge. Shuten-doji and Kamaitachi, who were just about to get into a fight, were promptly smacked on the head by the principal and forced back into their seats.
“Seimei isn’t still here yet? Did something happen?”
“Ah, I heard some loud noises coming from his room this morning. But he rushed out to apologize and told me I didn’t need to wait for him to work together today.”
The two close friends decided to leave it at that, not wanting to stir up any further trouble. That was until Seimei walked into the lounge and carrying a child no one had ever seen before.
“Haruaki, you… you kidnapped some kid, didn’t you!!!”
“Ah! Izuna-kun, that’s rude. This little one is my daughter.”
“Wha—?!!!”
Not only his close friend, but all the other teachers in the lounge were left stunned. That soft, fluffy and adorable child… was the daughter of that monster in human form? Someone even scarier than most of the youkai themselves?
But among them, there was one person so shocked it was as if his soul nearly left his body because the man they loved had turned out to already have a wife and child. Rintaro couldn’t hold it in anymore and blurted out—
“What do you mean—who’s the mother of this child? Spit it out already! Don’t tell me you’ve gone and gotten married, started a family like Izuna!!!”
“That’s not it at all!! The child’s mother was an acquaintance of mine who passed away back when I left school. And since this little one’s grown rather attached to me, my family asked me to take her in—so I did.”
Upon hearing his explanation, several of the teachers immediately felt relieved. At the same time, new schemes began forming in their minds—plans to get closer to the father through his adorable daughter.
“But… why did she even get here, Abe-sensei?”
“She normally stays with my family, but there’s some trouble at home right now, so she’s with me temporarily. And didn’t I already tell the principal?”
“You told me you were bringing a kid to school because of family problems… but the part about you being her dad. That’s news to all of us!!!”
Right now, Father's of four kamaitachi , had his parental instincts kicking in. He was showing off his abilities as a dad so fully that no one would have guessed he was the same person who used to wreck the teachers’ lounge regularly.
“So… what’s the name of this cute little one?”
“Irene... Abe Irene. I'm five years old. Uncle are you dad friend?”
“Yes, that’s right. I’m friend with your dad.”
When Shuten-doji saw his dear friend Kamaitachi going over to introduce himself to the little one—the child of the person he secretly liked—Rintaro immediately rushed in to score some points himself.
“Uncle you’re friends with my dad too? Let’s get along from now on!”
Ideally, he would have liked to call him “Dad,” but he didn’t say anything—otherwise, he’d get a serious beating. What could he do?
After seeing the two rough guys properly introduce themselves, everyone else hurried to introduce themselves immediately. After all, if they were seen as having worse manners than those two brutes… what would happen then?!
“But… Irene isn’t going to school? She’s five years old—shouldn’t she be in kindergarten by now?”
“Well, um… we decided to have her study at home. As for the reason…”
“Ah-choo!!”
It seemed the wind had blown a little too strongly, making the child sneeze—but this didn’t seem like an ordinary sneeze.
Poof!!
After the little one sneezed, smoke enveloped her entire body. When the smoke cleared, horns appeared on her forehead and a tail sprouted from her lower back. The human teacher quickly continued explaining.
“As you can see, she’s a kirin.”
“Whoa~ So this little one is a divine beast? Or are her parents also kirin?”
“Probably just on the dad’s side. If I remember correctly, the mother I knew since childhood is human.”
“In that case, would you like me to be her dad? I can handle all the paperwork. Here—just sign right here.”
As soon as the god of fortune finished speaking, he pulled out a document and handed it over for the other haruaki to sign. Fortunately, Rintaro had felt something was off from the start and the moment he saw the paper, he immediately spoke up to stop it.
“Is that okay…? Then may I—”
“This is bad! He was just trying to trick Haruaki into signing a marriage certificate, wasn’t he!!”
“!!!!!!!”
Once everyone in the room realized the teacher’s true intentions, their reactions were all over the place. Outsiders were stunned by his audacity while those closer to the situation wanted nothing more than to smack this sly snake teacher once and for all.
