Sweet Compersion

Summary:

Rhajat bakes for her loved ones!

Notes:

For day 4 of poly week!

Work Text:

Rhajat didn't really understand polyamory at first. She didn't like sharing. Especially sharing a person. She struggled with the concept of letting her loved ones have other loved ones. Why would she let them love someone else in addition to her? She never had nothing against people who did do such a thing. She just didn't get it. At least, at first. If the her of a year ago met the her of today, she may have been furious. Or at least violently confused. She couldn't help it though. She loved Ignatius and Forrest. She didn't want to pick just one or the other.

It helped that the two liked each other as well. Just watching them interact was fun. Ignatius' soft spoken nature was endearing, and Forrest was just adorable with his natural charms. She sat silently as the two continued their conversation. She wasn't entirely sure what the discussion was about. She wasn't really paying attention to their words, given that she was reading. At the moment, she was sitting on a couch parallel to the one they were on.

Even when she was looking at her words, she could barely see her boyfriends from the top of her book. It was a bit distracting, but it was a worthwhile one. A distraction when she was focused was usually nothing but a bother. Yet she found her partners to so rarely be so. Especially when compared to others. Even when she's busy. Sure, there are times when she wanted to work on her hexes. Yet, she would always manage to find time for them. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that her time with them rivaled how much fun she had slinging spells, potentially it even surpassed it.

Even now, as all she was doing was watching them speak. There was no where she'd rather be. It was an odd realization, but a happy one. She smiled gently to herself. She knew enjoying your partner's company was normal. She just didn't know it'd feel so good. Nor did she know that it was possible to watch someone one loves love another, and feel as euphoric as when their attention is on you. Well that was half true. She heard of the emotion. She had done a bit of research on this type of relationship. Which was hard to find, considering how rare it was outside of royal families. Even when she did find books on it, they were clearly... biased. They'd frown upon it, talking about how it wasn't a real relationship. Then again, those books also defined relationships as "between a man and woman" so she could dismiss them with ease.

Eventually she did manage to squeeze enough information to understand what she was getting herself into. There was even a word she had never heard of there. "Compersion." Joy born from seeing loved ones love someone else. That was the emotion she was feeling. She hoped she'd continue to feel it for a long time. She was sure there would be times where she'd feel jealous or left out. That was just natural. And yet, this wasn't one of those times.

"Then I was so distracted, I stuck myself." Forrest said with a giggle.

Ignatius scowled. "I'm surprised you can laugh about that..."

He grabbed Forrest's hand and brought it to his lips, before dropping a kiss. Forrest giggled again as blood rushed to his cheeks. Rhajat couldn't help but blush a bit too. Not as furiously as her boyfriend was though.

"It was on my finger Ignatius... not the back of my hand..." Forrest corrected with a smile.

"Dorks..." Rhajat mumbled affectionately.

"Your dorks." Forrest added.

Rhajat smirked. "Damn straight."

After a bit of a laugh, the three fell into a comfortable silence. Ignatius laid his head on Forrest as they both smiled. Ignatius drug his hands through Forrest's long hair. The sight was as adorable as it was blinding, but in the best way possible. Light wasn't so bad after all. She loved her time inside darkness, but there was nothing wrong with a change of pace. In there, it was safe, and normal, at least to her. The problem was how isolating it was. In the light, there was always the chance of being hurt, encountering monsters and the like. Yet there were so many kind people too. Neither of them were inherently good or bad. It really depended on the person and their state of mind. She could see herself becoming a light dweller, if she HAD to pick one. Though she'd prefer not to.

Rhajat went back to her book, surprisingly not a book of hexes. Rhajat did enjoy reading other books, although this wasn't really for enjoyment. Rhajat was actually reading a cook book. Hexing and cooking weren't too different. While one took up a lot more of her brain, she didn't mind cooking. Especially for loved ones. At the same time, she didn't have a large variety of knowledge when it came to the subject. She never really needed to know. Back home she had her parents to rely on, and she was cooking a meal for someone else, it was usually for them or Corrin.

Corrin enjoyed basically anything, and Hayato was picky. So she was limited on what she could make. Now that she was living with her partners, she felt there was no reason not to improve. They all already knew she wasn't going to be the only one cooking, she wouldn't tolerate anything like that. Not that it mattered, considering they weren't the kinda people who'd put all of any task on one person. They had their things they were better at, like Ignatius with physical labor and the like, but they agreed that they didn't want anyone to feel overworked or unappreciated.

As far as cooking went, Ignatius wasn't the best at it, his foods tended to be bitter. Forrest was better, but again, they couldn't leave it all to him. That left it up to Rhajat. They could probably try to help Ignatius improve, but that was a problem for a different day.

The sound of soft snoring pulled her back away from the book. She looked up and saw that the two were so comfortable that they had fallen asleep. This seemed to be the best time for her to get started. She gently closed her book and stood up. She then tip toed away from the boys and into the kitchen. Once there, she placed it down on the counter and started flipping through the pages. Today was somewhat of a lazy day. It wouldn't hurt to make something a bit unhealthy.

Rhajat didn't like meat or super greasy foods, and she wanted to make sure it was something they'd all enjoy. Various meals flashed through her mind as she continued to think. She wasn't sure about how the others ate, now that she thought about it. She didn't want to wake them up to ask, this was supposed to be a surprise after all. She'd just have to hope for the best.

No one had an issue with sweets as far as she knew. So that'd probably be the safest bet. She continued to look through the book with that in mind, and came across a delicious looking double layer cake. It was pink, not a color she associated much with herself, but it still made her mouth water. Seemed she had found what she was cooking.

She picked up the book before wandering around the kitchen to check if they had the necessary ingredients. They had frosting, strawberries, oil... She looked through the list, and managed to find all of them. She grinned as she realized that it was feasible. She started by pulling down everything and putting it on the counter. With the excitement bubbling in her chest, there was no reason to not get started.

The diviner wiped the sweat off of her brow. She'd been working for a good while now, and was putting the finishing touches on her cake. She was gently decorating it with the frosting. As corny as it was, she couldn't help but put a few words on top of it. It said "I love you." Sure it was simple, but the cake wasn't very big. She also didn't want to oversell it. She wasn't quite that much of a sap. She wafted the sweet aroma towards her nose. It was so great she almost wanted to take a bite before they woke up. She finished it off by dropping a few strawberries on top.

She looked it over a few more times. She wanted to make sure it was perfect after all. She put her fingers on the plate and slowly spun it around, just to make sure everything had frosting on it. With a nod of satisfaction, she placed a cover on top of it and walked away. She rubbed her hands together as she walked towards the others, still fast asleep. They looked so peaceful that it made her hesitate to wake them. She shrugged, figuring they wouldn't mind when they found out the reason.

She put a hand on Ignatius and another on Forrest. She gently shook them, bringing them back to reality. Ignatius yawned and Forrest rubbed his eyes. They both blinked a few times as they came to.

"Rhajat? Is something wrong?" Ignatius asked.

Before she could answer, she noticed Forrest smelling something. He looked towards the direction of the cake, then back to Rhajat.

"Have you been cooking?" He asked.

"Glad you noticed." She said with a hand on her hip. "Do you two want any? I made some cake for you guys."

"That's so nice of you Rhajat." Ignatius complimented. "Sounds good to me, what about you Forrest?"

Forrest nodded. "Yeah, I could use some food."

Rhajat looked away in an attempt to hide her blush due to Ignatius' comment. "Alright, I'll go get it."

She rushed off, prompting a bit of laughing from her partners. She reached into a drawer and pulled out 3 plates. She put them on the counter next to the food, then turned around and picked up a knife. She cut the three of them a piece, and placed them on the plates. She made sure to leave the text alone, she was already embarrassed, so she wasn't going to tell them about that part quite yet. Once that was done, she turned and grabbed a few forks, then placed them on the plates. Rhajat put her hands on her hips, appreciating her job well done. She picked up two pieces and walked back to her partners.

She handed the slices to Forrest and Ignatius. "For you... and for you..."

She left to go grab her slice while the two started digging in. Even from there, she could hear their noises of pleasure. She smirked to herself, it looked like the mission was a success. Rhajat walked back to them as she took a bite of her own cooking. She stopped in her tracks. Rhajat had to admit, she really did a great job. She felt the sweet flavors dancing on her tongue before she swallowed. With a content smile, she returned to the others. Ignatius was nearly done, while Forrest was about halfway. She sat down next to them and continued her piece.

Ignatius put his fork down, already done. "Wow that was great! You did so well Rhajat."

Forrest grinned. "I agree. I'd love to eat your cooking every day for the rest of my life."

Rhajat couldn't hide her blush this time as her eyes widened. Forrest winked at her as she folded her arms. They weren't sure how marriage was gonna work with the three of them, but she couldn't wait for it to happen. They'd been together for years, so it was only a matter of time. Really, it was just a question of who'd propose first. Whoever took that first step, would be changing their lives forever. That was a leap of faith, and it was a jump she'd take every time.
