Chapter 1: Ruins with name

Chapter Text

The sun had already set, it was already night time, it was a little cold in the place, if it weren't for the campfire that was there, it produced a somewhat cozy atmosphere anf also the only source of light right there; there, sitting on the ground while leaning his back against the wall of the cabin, was 1x, sharpening one of his swords, maybe to kill someone else again? Who knows what was going through his head at that moment, he only saw himself with the same expression as always, cold, tired, angry and maybe wanting to kill someone

He could have stayed there if it weren't for the voice that interrupted his thoughts, that voice came from one of the shadows that the light of the campfire couldn't reach, it was somewhat heavy, it had a slight mocking tone, a tone that was already familiar to him.

"Doing the same shit like always?"

It was none other than Azure, once again there to annoy him, because for some reason he always had something against him, something to say to him, not necessarily something to repress him, sometimes she just invaded him with silly and overwhelming questions, which was completely disgusting for 1x considering his little patience

"And you don't have anything better to do?"

Was what 1x answered while he squeezed the dagger of his sword tightly, he gave a deep sigh, he tried to contain his desire to get up and hit Azure, although he knew that things would be worse for him if he did.

"Making you angry is the best thing i can do, don't you think?"

1x didn't respond immediately. He gritted his teeth, and the sound of metal against the whetstone grew louder, more aggressive. Azure didn't say anything else, but took a step closer. Just enough for the fire to reveal part of his face.

That crooked smile was still there

"You should thank me"

Azure said, crouching in front of 1x with a dangerous calmness.

If I didn't come to provoke you, you'd be rotten in your thoughts. Or isn't that how you stay sane? Sharpening things... thinking about killing."

1x looked up barely. His red eyes seemed to glow with fury at that moment.

"I don't need you to be sane"

Was the only answer 1x give to them

"Sane?"

Azure gave a short laugh, like a knife scraping bone.

"If you were sane, you wouldn't look at me like that every time I came near. You wouldn't be trembling with rage... or holding back like a chained dog."

1x felt repressed beneath those words; in a way, it was true, but he was too proud to admit it.

"Why can't you just shut up?"

1x's voice came out harsh, barely contained. He didn't raise his tone, but each word felt as though it had been spat out through his teeth.

Azure gave a crooked, almost mirthless smile.

"Because it's fun watching you slowly break."

1x clenched his jaw. He ran the blade of his sword against the stone again in a sharp motion. More out of a need to keep his hands busy than any real intention of sharpening anything.

"You're pathetic,"

1x muttered.

Azure didn't respond immediately. He let the insult hang in the air, not even bothering to refute it, simply standing back up.

And you are a walking mess

Said Azure, with a heavier voice than before, seemed to carry a feeling stronger than the previous one.

1x fixed his gaze on the fire. He didn't want to look at it. He didn't want to give it space in his mind, but Azure had that annoying way of settling there without permission. He closed his eyes for a second. Not because he was tired, but because the conversation wore him out more than any fight. Azure knew how to get under his skin without using weapons. He did it with words.

Go away

It was what the vox of 1x said, with a very heavy, almost dead tone, his voice seemed full of anger.

Azure didn't move immediately. Only after a long second, it turned toward the forest.

Good evening, 1x

said with a strange, almost sincere calm, as if he truly wanted her to rest. But 1x wasn't resting. He couldn't.

Only when his steps were lost among the underbrush, the blade of the sword stopped trembling in his hand.
