Work Text:
The places Medkit frequented were never known for silence. Whether it be the phighting grounds with the chatter among phighters, the church with its incessant sermons, or his living space with the ever-sociable Sword, his life was much too noisy for someone as taciturn as himself. Moments he could spend in silence were typically moments where he was alone.
His experiences with Boombox were largely the same. The other's chatterbox nature left no room for silence between them, to the dismay of the healer. Oddly enough, he seems to pipe down when not in a crowd, opting to hum tunes and keep to himself. Medkit was intrigued by this sudden shift in personality, and—curiosity be damned—struck a conversation sith the DJ.
"Strange." Medkit thought out loud, his voice within earshot of the inphernal a few feet away, despite the headphones that covered said ears.
"Hm? Strange what?" Boombox turned to him, his head cocked to the side and visor with question marks in the place of his eyes. The expressiveness of the other always caught Medkit's attention, he would even call the mannerisms of the DJ cute. He would never dare to voice that though.
"You." Medkit's response is as dry and vague as one could imagine from him, and yet, Boombox understands.
"Oh, I know. I'm not exactly known for my silence." Boombox states, "But hey, can't an inphernal just keep to themselves? You seem to be quite accustomed to that." He giggles a bit after his last statement.
Medkit scoffs, "Whatever, it's just a bit odd seeing this type of behavior from you." Boombox giggles even more from that, and Medkit feels like the gesture is just to tease him.
"Though, I am curious about that song you're humming." Boombox practically lights up—literally—and pipes up, "Really? Well, I have a whole playlist of songs like this, this one is..." Medkit did not intend to tune the DJ out, but his mind was just a bit... distracted.
Distracted by everything going on his life? Perhaps. Distracted by how adorable Boombox was acting at this moment? Definitely Absolutely not.
Eventually, Boombox ceased his rambling, hastily scribbled down his phone number on the back of a crumpled receipt in his pocket, and told Medkit to contact him so he could give him the link to the playlist.
Having access to Boombox's phone number eventually lead to another conversation, and eventually, an invite to Boombox's place. Then, another conversation, another invite, and so on, so forth.
When Medkit had arrived this time to hear a new song that the DJ was working on, he found the door locked. He knocked on the door three times in intervals for about a minute, but to no avail.
"Boombox? I'm here." He tries to call out, yet he is met with no response. With a sigh, he pulls out an emergency paper clip that he keeps in his satchel and uses it as a makeshift lockpick to get the door open. He silently prays that no one sees him and thinks of him as a burglar.
When the door unlocks with a click, Medkit quickly heads inside, being sure to lock the door behind him. Strangely, the space was awfully quiet.
Medkit was not accustomed to this.
Boombox's apartment lacking the sounds of any music was a surprise to him, considering his past visits always had a faint tune that could be heard from a distant room at all times. With confusion, he makes his way through the halls of the space, carefully opening and closing doors on the way. In his past visits, he has only been to Boombox's living room and kitchen, which did not help in making him not feel like an intruder at the moment.
Eventually, he happens upon a door with what sounds like faint snoring behind it. He slowly turns the handle, trying to minimize the creak of the door as it opens.
His eyes land on a relatively messy bedroom, posters cover practically every space on the walls, a shelf with what appears to be a collection of vinyls accompanied by a record player, an electronic keyboard that spans over half the wall that it is against, and a slightly ajar closet with a shirt sticking out. He directs his attention to the bed in the corner, where he finds the inphernal he was looking for.
Boombox is sprawled across his bed, surrounded by drafts of sheet music, almost unintelligible scribbles on paper that Medkit can only assume to be lyrics, and some crumpled papers that may be scrapped drafts. Boombox himself is dressed in only a shirt, shorts, and his signature visor, said visor has multiple Zs in the place of his eyes.
Medkit looms over the bed in silence, thinking of what to do to pass the time. He may as well tidy up the place, as a gesture of hospitality.
He takes the stray shirt, folds it up neatly, and properly places it back into the closet. Then, he handles the mess on the DJ's bed, setting aside the sheet music and lyrics in a cabinet and tossing the crumpled papers into the trash bin in the corner.
Well, now what?
...
Well, he did feel a bit sleepy after the phight today.
...No.
"...Maybe." Medkit mumbles to himself, trying to stay as silent as possible. He quickly writes down a short message for Boombox in case he wakes up before him.
He strips himself of his gloves, suit jacket, dress shoes, and the ring on his horn before carefully climbing into Boombox's bed. Warmth envelops him as his body hits the sheets, partly due to Boombox's warmth and partly due to the teal flush that quickly covers Medkit's face. He steadies his breathing, hoping that Boombox does not wake up due to the thumping in his chest.
With hesitation and utmost care, he reaches his arms over the DJ's figure and embraces him, placing a careful kiss to the back of his neck before letting his eye close as he mumbles one last thing.
"I love you, Boombox."

Boombox wakes suddenly, feeling the ache around the upper half of his face as he fell asleep with his visor on. He tries to move, but is met with resistance from something wrapped around his waist. Something with arms, soft hands, and an adorable snore. He turns his head to face it and—
Oh, Medkit is here.
"Why the phuck is Medkit here!?" Boombox whisper-shouts to no one, his grogginess is not at all helping as he slowly realizes that he is currently being spooned by the other inphernal. His heart does about nineteen flips and two somersaults before he calms himself, trying to make sense of the situation. For one, his room is surprisingly tidy, did Medkit clean up for him? For another, Medkit seems to have undressed a bit, the polo underneath his suit jacket has its sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and he lacks the signature ring on his left horn.
He shifts himself to properly face the sleeping inphernal, freezing everytime the healer stirs in his sleep. He takes some time to—for lack of a better word—ogle at Medkit's appearance and play with the other's now wrinkled cravat.
"Pretty..." He says to himself as he carefully tugs Medkit closer and places a gentle kiss to the other's closed eyelid, a bit risky, but Boombox is not one for playing it safe. A piece of paper pinned under Medkit's head catches his attention, and the swirly handwriting of its contents immediately registered in his head as being the healer's.
"Please don't be alarmed, I was just a bit tired after today's phight. All of your notes are in the first cabinet of your bedside table." Medkit's signature is written underneath the text with a small heart at the end of his name, which Boombox recognizes as an alteration to his typical signature.
He hums happily before leaning in for more kisses, this time to both of Medkit's horns and a final one to his lips. He was going to finish up that song a bit more before showing it to Medkit, but he supposed that he could rest a bit more, especially with the beauty that found his way into his bed.
He would definitely talk about this with him when the healer wakes up, but he is content with the quiet between them for now.
"Love you, Medkit."
