ONE PIECE: The Adventures of Gale

Summary:

A storm on the Grand Line brings the Thousand Sunny face-to-face with a sleeping pirate… on a cloud.

Chapter Text

The Grand Line was alive with storms that night.
Lightning licked the horizon, painting the waves silver, while the winds screamed like angry Sea Kings.

The deck of the Thousand Sunny was a blur of motion.
Nami stood firm at the helm, her voice sharp against the roar of the storm.

“If we’re going to make it through this storm, I need all hands on deck!” she shouted.

The crew scrambled—Luffy tugging ropes with wide-eyed glee, Zoro grumbling as he braced the mast, Usopp and Chopper tying down anything that wasn’t nailed.

Suddenly the ship lurched upward, the sea beneath them heaving toward the sky.

“It’s a sky current!” Nami cried. “Hold on to something!”

High above the chaos, floating lazily on a puff of white against a black sky,
a lone figure snored without a care—
as if the heavens themselves had decided to sprout a pirate.

He stretched across his personal cloud like a cat in the sun, long baggy pants rippling in the breeze.
Bare feet dangled over the edge, his bare chest rose and fell in an easy rhythm.
A scar sliced across his eye, another carved diagonally down his chest—
trouble wrapped in serenity.

His cloud drifted aimlessly, tilting with every gust, but he didn’t budge.

The Thousand Sunny burst out of the cloud bank beneath him.
The figure yawned, scratched at his messy hair, and rolled over, mumbling to no one in particular:

“…Five more minutes…”

Then—WHUMP!—he tumbled from the sky, landing in a spray of rain and mist on the Sunny’s deck.

He cracked one eye open and grinned.

“Yo!” he called over the chaos, voice light and teasing.
“Nice weather for a nap, eh?”

The Sunny settled with a shudder, the entire ship now resting on a thick cloud bank like some impossible patch of sky.
For a heartbeat, everyone froze.
Even the storm seemed to hold its breath.

“AAAH! Was that… a guy on a cloud?!” Usopp squawked, eyes bulging.

Franky’s sunglasses flashed in the lightning.

“SUPER!” he roared.

Nami’s jaw tightened.

“Focus! Whoever he is, we don’t have time for—wait… we should be falling by now.”

The stranger sat cross-legged on the deck, completely at ease.

“Storm’s got a nice kick tonight,” he said casually.

Rain streamed from Luffy’s straw hat as his grin stretched ear to ear.

“HEY, CLOUD GUY! COME JOIN OUR CREW!”

Everyone spun toward him.

“LUFFY!” they shouted in unison.

The stranger tilted his head, amused.

“Crew, huh? Sounds fun. But first—”

He flicked his fingers.
The air around the Sunny softened.
The screaming winds slackened.
The towering waves eased into rolling swells.
Above, the black thunderheads tore apart, moonlight spilling through like silver rivers.

The Straw Hats stared as the Grand Line’s fury melted into an eerie, gentle drizzle.

Lightning flickered far off on the horizon, but over the Sunny the sky was suddenly calm—
an island of peace in a raging sea.

Nami narrowed her eyes, mind racing.

“…That was you,” she said slowly.
“You… controlled the storm.”

The stranger gave a lazy shrug.

“Didn’t like the noise. Hard to nap.”

A wisp of vapor curled beneath him as he summoned a fresh cloud, settling onto it like a throne.

Luffy’s grin somehow widened.

“I LIKE YOU!” he shouted.
“What’s your name?”

The man rested his chin on his hand, eyes bright with mischief.

“Name’s Nimbus D. Gale,” he said.
“But you can just call me Gale. Everyone else does.”
