Work Text:
I’m not sulking, you are!
They had been in a fight. The two of them, with words and whatnot.
The usual thing without a really good reason. It was mostly that, their fight’s beginning with nothing only ending up with bad words spat out of anger, leaving both of the hurt and sulking. Both of them too stubborn to give in and simply apologise to the other.
And yet, they were best friends. Forever too, that was the hope.
Thick as thieves, joined at the hip, brothers in arms through and through.
And guess that was the reason they also fought like cats and dogs without too much qualm. As usually the fights were soon forgotten. Usually they were.
But just after this particular fight which had been really bad, each of them were sulking in their respective corners of the Havoc Marauder doing something but really nothing.
“What the kark is it this time?”
Hunter, none too happy with the duo’s behaviour as they were headed on a mission and if the two kept this up well, they still worked well together for sure. And still, Hunter did not like them fighting.
“Crosshair started it.” Tech sounded positively wounded in his low whiny register.
“I don’t care who started it, I just need you two to stop this nonsense. We’ll be landing soon and I need all of you in your best behaviour and positive headspace on this one.”
“Is that an order, Sarge?” Crosshair snarled back, chewing rapidly on his toothpick.
“And it wasn’t a fight. We just… had words that is all…”
“Yeah Tech?” Hunter demanded of the Genius, stammering as he tried to defend his and Crosshair’s actions.
“Yeah? And we weren’t fightin’ either.” Wrecker chimed in, having Echo by his side as a unified front.
The two having stayed out of the trouble this time, having learnt the hard way not to intervene whenever Crosshair and Tech were squabbling.
Hunter stared at the four members of his squad.
The leader of the wayward team clearly, having lost the control of them and especially this type of situation a long time ago. But, Hunter was their Sergeant even if they all ganged up on him. Or did they?
There was a very long pause, the five of them simply standing there, none of them moving or talking or even making an attempt to clarify nor apologise or any such thing leading towards a status quo. A happy, status quo. A positive outcome if any.
Hunter’s hope for sure.
“It was just words Hunter.” Tech finally spoke while him and Crosshair suddenly standing side by side, as if it was them against Hunter.
“Yeah, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. We were just…” Crosshair then looked at Tech, trying to read in the other clone’s eyes what the problem really had been and what to say… “Ya know, the usual.”
“Yes, Hunter. Nothing out of the ordinary.” Tech added quickly enough, his eyes never leaving Crosshair’s.
The two suddenly on the same wavelength, united against well, Hunter.
“It didn’t sound like nothing to me, ya know, before.” Echo tried then, getting a glare from Hunter, Crosshair and Tech.
“But what do I know.”
Echo raised his arms in surrender, glancing at Wrecker who simply raised his brow not really having an answer for the ARC either. Guess it was a good thing they had stayed out from the whatever it was from get go.
“So, you two, can guarantee me, there is no fight and you can work together out there. In best possible ways.” Hunter demanded the duo.
“We can.”
“Yup, Sarge.”
Hunter gave the two a hard stare still, the infamous Hunter Glare as it was known as.
“We’ll be okay. See.” Crosshair then proved his words by placing his arm on top of Tech’s shoulders hugging Tech tightly.
Tech leaning into the truce hug, convincingly so too.
As usually, these fights the two had faded soon enough. It was simply some stream let out, even if feelings sometimes got hurt. And guess, all was forgiven now?
“See, no hard feelings, Hunt.”
“Yeah, we are both forgiving and forgetting. Right Cross?”
Tech and Crosshair once again exchanged glances, nodding and shaking hands, hugging too. A long while it was too!
Hunter shook his head and went about whatever he was doing before.
“They’re fine Hunt.”
Echo and Wrecker assured Hunter or tried to at least.
“Yeah, we had fights in the 501st all the time. No biggie.”
“Yeah, Hunt, see, brothers fight all the time.”
Hunter gave the duo a very tired looking glance, Hunter so over the fights and squabbles at this point in time.
“Are they ever going to stop doing that?”
“Well, maybe, with time.” Echo tried.
Hunter simply sighed, not really reassured of the same. But there was nothing for him to do but wait. Perhaps the two would grow up at some point? Hunter could only hope.
Meanwhile, Tech and Crosshair were speaking in hushed tones. The tiff already forgotten.
The two not fighting, rather plotting something, most likely something which would cause Hunter more grey hairs in the process! But that was for another time, another tale to tell.
