On Rollerblades

Summary:

Frank meets Brad and Janet; Brad's intrigued. (Nov.)

Work Text:

“Enchanté. Well! How nice. And what charming underclothes you both have. But here. Put these on. They'll make you feel less... vulnerable. It's not often we receive visitors here, let alone offer them... hospitality.”

Frank N. Furter's voice, a velvety baritone dripping with amused condescension, seems to fill the very air of the castle laboratory, echoing from the high vaulted ceiling and reverberating through the marble floors. Brad shivers, though the room is not cold. He stands in a state of disarray, his soaked suit clinging to his frame, the remnants of a perfectly respectable day now reduced to a sodden mockery. His eyes dart from Frank’s painted face—the high, dramatic arches of his brows, the full, carmine lips—to the two silk dressing gowns being presented to them by an outstretched, gloved hand. One is a deep, blood-red, the other a shocking magenta. The fabric gleams under the flickering candlelight, promising a warmth and luxury utterly at odds with their present predicament.

"Hospitality!? All we wanted to do was to use your telephone, Goddammit, a reasonable request, which you've chosen to ignore!" Brad’s voice is sharp, propelled by a nervous anger that he hopes will mask the unsettling feeling in his gut.

The sheer, overwhelming strangeness of this place—the silent, ghoulish servants, the bizarre scientific equipment, and most of all, the man who stands before them in fishnets and a corset—has thrown him completely off balance.

"Brad, don't be ungrateful," Janet murmurs, her hand going to his arm in a futile attempt to calm him. Her bashful nature is at war with her fear. She is a girl who understands logic, not this sensual, chaotic absurdity.

Ungrateful! The word hangs in the air, a final pinprick to Brad’s frayed composure. He feels the collective gaze of the Transylvanians upon him, a silent, knowing judgment. Frank’s eyes, however, are a different matter. They are not judging; they are consuming. They linger on the V-neck of Brad’s wet t-shirt, tracing the curve of his collarbone and the hint of his chest beneath.

"How forceful you are, Brad," Frank purrs, a slow, appreciative smile spreading across his face. He takes a step closer, the heel of his stiletto clicking softly on the floor, the sound impossibly loud in the hushed room. "Such a perfect specimen of manhood. So... dominant."

Brad holds his ground, a magnetic pull preventing him from retreating. He meets Frank’s gaze, a curious mix of defiance and curiosity flickering in his eyes. Frank’s expression deepens, as if he has just discovered a new, fascinating specimen under a microscope.

"You must be awfully proud of him, Janet." Frank's question is rhetorical; his eyes never leave Brad.

Janet, still clinging to the last vestiges of her polite upbringing, flushes. "Well, yes, I am."

She can’t see what Brad feels—the electric current passing between him and this strange, captivating man. It's a feeling of both repulsion and a terrifying, inexplicable allure. The anger that had been Brad's shield begins to melt away, leaving him exposed, his nerves raw. He is a Boy Scout on his first expedition, lost in a jungle he never knew existed. And the creature at the center of the jungle, with its dark, glittering eyes, is now offering him a robe of silk and secrets. Brad reaches for the red gown, his hand trembling slightly. He feels, for the first time in his life, utterly and completely seen. He fears that Frank has already discovered something about him that he himself did not know.
