after the kiss.

Summary:

What if Tim hadn’t made it home?

Work Text:

It was a normal day to say the least, Tim kissed Lucy goodbye and with a wave, he left.

Lucy couldn’t really blame herself for not giving him an extra warm hug, could she?

A knock at the door was what woke her from her sleep. And when she groggily opened the door, her heart dropped and she knew. Tim hadn’t made it home.

“Where’s Tim?” she cried, grasping at the straws in hope that someone would tell her he’s fine. That he would walk through the door. Hell, even if he had cuts and bruises and an arm sling, she just wanted him to walk through the door.

“I’m sorry, Miss Chen. Sergeant Bradford was killed in action when a robbery went wrong.” Sergeant Pine sniffled, delivering a death notice was hard, but delivering to her best sergeant's wife? Oh, that was even harder.

“No! You don’t get to do this. You don’t get to treat me like a civilian getting a death notice. Tim! Come out of where you’re hiding from! Jokes over.” Lucy cried, snot leaking out from her nose, she cried for their unborn child, for their child who now wouldn't have a father. She cried for the picket-fence life they could have had.

What had she done to deserve such a cruel and unforgiving life?

What had she done to deserve such little time with the only man that she ever truly loves?

Was it all her fault that Tim died? She would give up the world for him back at the doorstep. Hell, she would walk away from him just to see him alive and well again. Again. God, why had she already fallen victim to the truth like he was in the past?

She had done something wrong in her previous life and she knew it. And oh did she hate herself for it.
