Work Text:
“I’ve chased you to the very end of the universe.
In your wake you left misery and destruction and no matter how grim those horrors where, I endured just to see your face once again.
But this is how destiny answer our question Himeko?
With my blade through you and yours through me?
In your beloved Astral Express, now cold.
In your empty solitude, now warm.”
The purple haired woman fell on the floor, almost bled out.
With her last dying wish, she ask the universe to change their destiny.
Kafka closed her eyes for the last time or she thought.
Once she reopened them, she found herself in Penacony.
A peaceful Penacony as that.
Something was strange she could feel it in her bones.
“Kakfa?” The red haired woman called back to her.
“…Yes?”
“Shall we proceed?” Himeko smiled back.
Kakfa was feeling like a ship without her mast.
“Proceed for what?”
“Our date, you know, the one where you invited me!” Himeko showed her the purple envelope.
“Oh yes, our date!” Kafka forced herself to smile back at the woman.
Her head was screeching in agony and flashes of something manifested before her eyes.
Somehow, she was happy to be there.
Penacony was shining through the night, streets filled with many people, coming from pretty much everywhere.
The two women walked a lot to reach the theater where a ceremony would’ve taken place.
Himeko pulling some strings, managed to land them the best seats.
Kafka was still skeptical because all of this felt way too much perfect, almost dream-like.
The show started, thousands of people clapped to encourage them.
The play was about two lovers and their will to defy destiny as it reserved a tragic ending for the two of them.
They managed to alter the course by fucking up time itself, sending someone back in time to warn about the choices that would lead to death.
Himeko teared up a little by the end.
“These two faced everything and managed to end up together. Isn’t that wonderful?”
“I’d say Destiny made them prove themselves worthy of love.”
Kafka reply’s was devoided of emotions as her usual but her headache still remained to bug her.
“Now, come with me, I wanna show you something.” Himeko reached for Kafka’s left hand and dragged her through the crowd.
Once they stopped, the scenery changed.
A lot of shooting stars passed by in the sky, leaving a white tail behind them.
The sight was breathtaking and Himeko stole a kiss from Kakfa, who remained shocked.
“You owe me one, remember?”
But it felt nice, like a warm feeling that Kafka hadn’t experience yet. And then a sharp pain ran through her head again.
A vision of her and Himeko on the floor, lifeless.
Kakfa felt something weird, it wasn’t fear but rather, disappointment.
But decided to enjoy her last night with her lover, before disappearing from her life, cause she knew if she stuck around Himeko, they would’ve both ended up dead.
