Archangel Raphael's notes on demonic coping mechanisms in response to trauma

Summary:

Raphael suddenly finds himself with a very unexpected group of patients and writes about them in his journal.

Chapter 1: Asmodeus

Chapter Text

(I was hesitant to accept Asmodeus as patient due to both of our loaded emotional baggage, but xe convinced me, so I'll try my best to treat xyr like any other patient).

Flies into a frenzy, when triggered, sometimes has to be calmed down magically. Xe hates, when I do this, but there seems to be no other way to calm xyr down, that doesn't involve physical restraints.

Mostly sound of mind, but has phases of mental instability.

During those phases, extreme emotional outbursts take turns with periods of depersonalisation, where xe stares into the distance unresponsively for an extended amount of time.

Once xe regains lucidity, xe's subdued and - I almost hesitate to write this - cuddly for about a day.

Prone to fits of unbridled rage and violence. Keep away or remove any possible triggers, for public safety.

Bloodthirsty and sadistic. Must be stopped from harming or killing others at all cost.

Workaholic. Prefers the term "workafrolic" (i.e. someone, who works hard and passionately for their job and has fun doing so), but "workaholic" seems more accurate. An absolute nuisance, when bored, but mere boredom usually leads to mischief, rather than actual harm.

Suffers from monophobia, feels intense fear when alone, especially in dark and quiet places.

Also suffered from aquaphobia until recently, still feels anxious around large and deep bodies of water.

Fear causes xyr to seek out loved ones or friends for comfort and reassurance.

Isn't fond of PDA or "sentimentality" in general, but will privately ask for non-sexual physical intimacy, when sad or distraught.

Extremely wary (I'm hesitant to call it paranoia), but openly talks about trauma with people xe trusts.

According to xyr wife and older siblings, xe's been more even-tempered than usual in the last months, but it would be dangerous to get my hopes up.

Chapter 2: Lilith

Chapter Text

(Slightly apprehensive towards me on behalf of her spouse, but that's understandable.)

Uncooperative during sessions.

Incredibly headstrong.

Lacks a concept of good and evil, due to never consuming the Fruit of Conscience.

Relies on family to tell her what's wrong or right, simply so she can do even more harm.

Decently intelligent, apart from the emotional aspect.

Murderous sociopath, commits infanticide out of spite (keep away from human babies at all cost).

Capable of caring for said family, but not to the extend they care for her. Nevertheless fiercely protective of them.

Desperate need to be in control, immediately abandons anyone, who she feels is oppressive.

Seeks out family and friends, when upset or unsure. Clings to Asmodeus, Lucifer or Astaroth, when confused.

Views men as toys to play with, rather than as persons. Alternates between sleeping with them for sexual gratification and lashing out against them, whether they have done anything to warrant it or not.

Doesn't see a difference between modern men and Adam (denies accusations of misandry, but I believe she's guilty of it).

Considers self to be a femme fatale.

Chapter 3: Astaroth

Chapter Text

(She agreed to sessions out of curiosity, but it turns out she actually needs them. Despite being a mute, she's incredibly talkative and has a lot to say. Her sign language is unique and I'm still learning. But her family has no problem communicating with her.)

Volatile and impulsive.

Uses wit, violence and/or nonchalance to hide personal troubles.

Talks about past trauma, as if she doesn't care, but that's clearly a ruse.

A violent warmonger.

Likes to start conflicts for entertainment and then revel in the carnage.

Extremely fickle and unpredictable.

Can attack people unprovoked and for no reason other than boredom or impulse (keep weapons out of reach for public safety).

May The Name have mercy on the soul of anyone foolish enough to actually anger a demoness, who was once worshipped as a war goddess.

Seems to be incapable of feeling shame, often unwilling to take accountability.

Insists, that her Fall from Grace wasn't her fault and conveniently forgets the fact, that she shared crucial information with Lucifer during his rebellion, thus making her guilty of collusion.

Enjoys flirting and sex, but is unwilling to pursue a romantic relationship, saying she has "outgrown" romantic love.

Cares deeply about her family and is fiercely protective of them.

Resentful and suspicious towards anyone, who she feels has wronged her loved ones.

Claims, that she would destroy civilisations for her family's sake and I'm inclined to believe it.

Incredibly knowledgeable and freely shares any insights. Believes that knowledge horted is knowledge wasted, though from what her twin-brother has told me, I suspect that vindictiveness has something to do with it.

At other times withdrawn and contemplative.

Shares far more about others than about self, but is slowly starting to open up to me (her curiosity may outweight her resentment towards me).

A "venti, sugar-free, non-fat, vanilla soy double shot, decaf, no foam, extra hot peppermint white chocolate moccha with light whip and extra syrup" to butter her up during sessions is a requirement.

Chapter 4: Beelzebub

Chapter Text

(My most surprising patient so far. I suspect, that zir older siblings strong-armed zir into this. Reminder to myself to tell those two, that that's counterproductive.)

Eating disorder, but I have yet to determine, how much of it is mental illness and how much is zir Deadly Sin.

Eats to cope with depression and anger issues.

Consumes alcohol frequently, but not to the point of alcoholism. Patient claims to only drink when happy, with the reasoning that "wine is for pleasure, not sorrow".

Quick to anger, but (mostly) lucid and self-aware.

Paranoid, but hates being alone (which would explain the frequent wild parties). Unsurprisingly incredibly suspicious.

Struggles to maintain healthy relationships of any kind, very jealous and possessive.

Used to have a turbulent on-and-off relationship with Asmodeus, but this time it seems to be over for good.

Believed to have a psychosis, but I lean more towards an undiagnosed BPD or BPAD.

How to persuade the patient to agree to diagnostic tests, I have yet to figure out.

Prone to violence and fiercely protective of family.

Unexpectedly cooperative, but large bowls full of sweets during meetings are a must.

Chapter 5: Lucifer

Chapter Text

(I thought that Beelzebub was my most surprising new patient. I stand corrected, because the literal Prince of Pride has signed up for sessions. I have yet to determine what his true motives are. Not that I'm complaining though, I like getting a chance to understand people. And apparently these sessions have led to him taking me off his hitlist, so that's neat.)

Repression.

Downplays negative emotions and trauma and talks about it with disturbing casualness.

Reflexively replies to enquiries about wellbeing with "I'm fine". This seems to be a knee-jerk response to avoid being questioned further and eventually having to admit, that he's anything but fine.

Needs encouragement to express discomfort or distress openly during sessions.

Extremely wary, borderline paranoid, but I hesitate to actually call it paranoia, since the patient is in a dangerous position.

Protective to the extreme, most likely due to a feeling of guilt. While not admitting to any guilt, the patient is visibly distraught whenever mentioning the suffering of a loved one and seems to be blaming himself for it, whether there was a causation or not. Younger siblings complain about being "mothered".

Control freak and aware of it, makes self-deprecating jokes about it.

Slow to anger, until someone considered an enemy is involved. The greater the emotional baggage shared, the worse the tension.

Suffering from PTSD and severe trypanophobia, almost certainly due to having been subject to Angelic experimentation in the past.

Hyperempath. Prone to empathic distress fatigue and sensory overload, often has to isolate self to lower the endless input.

Will sometimes be too overwhelmed to even articulate self. Then we just sit on the couch, drink tea in silence and I let him bask in my healing aura. These moments of quiet repose seem to do him a world of good, as he's more balanced and lively afterwards.

Seems to be opening up to me little by little.
