Marygold was writing when someone called her name “Marygold come eat!” her mother said “Coming!” Marygold said. Her mother was a plump woman, but she was powerful. She owned a bakery across town where she sold cakes, pies, and muffins. Marygold went downstairs to go eat. When she got there her little brother Jackie was sitting at the table eating mashed carrots with his hands. “Jackie eat it with your fork not your hands” her mother said. Marygold went to sit down next to where Jackie was sitting, when her mother gave her a plate of rice and cherries with a glass of grape juice.
“So how are your grades in school?” her mother said, “They are good” Marygold said. Her school was only a couple of blocks down from where she lived, but the school was being run down from storms and the people who run it. As Marygold finished eating Jackie threw a piece of carrot mush at her. “Jackie why did you just throw food at me!” Marygold said in frustration. “Sorry” Jackie said with an innocent look on his face. “It's ok” she said. “Hey mom can I go exploring in the forest of dreams please” Marygold said. Marygold always wanted to explore the forest ever since she heard about it. She thought it was a mystical and magical place where creatures would hide away from the outside world. Her mother looked at her in confusion “why do you want to explore that forest so much?” her mother said. “I want to explore it to see all the creatures I can find” she said. “Well, you're not going” her mother said. “But why won't you let me go there?” Marygold said. “Because it is too dangerous, and I do not want you to get lost. Her mother said in a serious tone. Marygold went up stair in frustration. When she was sleeping, she heard a loud bang in the distance.
The sound woke her up. “What was that!” she said with a worried look on her face. She tried to go back to sleep but she could not; she was so curious about the sound that she could not sleep. So, she went outside to investigate. It was dark out so she could not see anything, only the river that flood through the forest and town. That is when the loud bang went off again, only louder this time. The sound made her lose balance and fall into the river. She could not swim so she drifted along the water current. That is when she hit her head on a rock which made her unconscious. When she woke up, she found herself in the forest of dreams. That is when she relished, she was far from home, and she had to find her way back.
