Work Text:
The night has never been this bright. Brighter than the daytime, you could say. Figuratively, of course.
The circus was...an eyesore, to say the least. Bright colors surrounding you at all times was a bit overwhelming. But when you were brought to this small room with dimmed lights, soft music playing in the background and a few candles lit here and there, it was soothing to see something more realistic in a place like this.
Caine knew you liked when it was dark; he knew a lot of things about you. Even things you've never told him about, for some reason. You didn't question it, though. There were stranger things in this place.
Your comfortability in the darkness must've been his excuse for taking you here, knowing damn well he just wanted you all to himself, at least just for today.
You two never really get the chance to talk one on one with each other, always around the others or in completely separate places, like one of his adventures. But now that it was just the two of you, it felt much more...calm.
"...Don't you love it here?"
Caine's question snapped you out of your trance, your eyes shifting back up to his face(?). His eyes were staring directly at yours, looking almost proud of himself in what little features he had to express that.
"...It's nice." You hummed softly, giving him a warm smile to let him know he did a good job.
He continued to lightly swirl around the dark red wine in his glass, keeping his eyes on yours. You could see your reflection in those big eyes of his.
Old-fashioned slow dancing music played softly in the background; you could recognize a few of them.
Everything in the room was stereotypicallly romantic, from the music to the interior design of the small space. Wooden floors with windows beside the table you two were sitting on, revealing the stars in the night sky. A candle was lit on the clothed table, as well as a few on a shelf above the fireplace. There was no food on the table, though.
You grabbed the wine glass off the table and took a small sip, savoring the weirdly-flavored grape liquid in your mouth. It was obvious he didn't know how it was supposed to taste.
It was getting a bit awkward between you, considering neither of you were good at conversations, especially during a moment like this. As you were about to speak up, a familiar song came on.
Caine blinked, seeming to recognize the song as well, before softening his gaze.
It was that one song you've heard lots of times before...what was it called? 'We Belong Together'?
You looked back at Caine, noticing a small hum coming from him. It was in the tune of the song.
His leg was bouncing underneath the table, seeming almost impatient.
After a few seconds, Caine set down his wine glass and stood up, his jaws slightly closed in what seemed to be shyness.
He took a step towards you, fixing his bow before offering his hand out to you.
"Would you like to dance...?" He cleared his throat awkwardly in the middle of his sentence, his eyes shifting back to yours in soft desperation.
You found the offer unexpected, yet you were intrigued. You weren't the best dancer, but you at least knew how to slow-dance...somewhat.
You nodded slightly, taking his hand into yours.
Caine looked at you in surprise, but quickly brought you over to the empty floor, not wanting to throw away his chance. You could see a faint blush he tried hiding by turning away from you.
Your shoes clicked on the wooden surface, stopping where he let go of your hand.
He seemed extremely flustered, not really sure of what to do. Obviously, someone like him has never been in a situation like this, so you couldn't help but feel both amused and a bit bad for the guy.
"Let me just- uh-..." Caine tried placing his hands *somewhere*, but he wasn't exactly sure where. You placed your fist on your mouth, chuckling softly at his embarrassed manners
You took his hands and gently placed them on your waist, producing a small "oh!" from him.
You then let go of his hands and placed yours on his shoulders, your fingers firmly pressing into his soft velvet suit fabric.
His eyes were focused on you, taking in the sight of you so close to him, his theoretical heart pounding in his chest.
He then realized he was staring for too long, eventually starting to move his feet around to the rhythm of the song.
You followed his steps, the song in the background playing louder in your head, letting yourself get into the music.
The tension in the room suddenly dispersed, leaving only softness and calm in the air. The smell of vanilla candles filled your lungs, only making the moment sweeter.
You both just...gazed into each other's eyes, his focused only on you. Your soft touch, your warm expression, it all just spurred him on.
You could hear the same hum coming from him again, instead starting to turn into gentle singing.
"...And we belong together..."
"Yes, we belong together...."
"For eternity."
You couldn't help but hum along, your voice mixing with his in a sugary tone.
The atmosphere was almost perfect, the candles slightly flickering as they created a shadow of you two on the wall. If you weren't dancing right now, you'd stop and stare at the shadows moving majestically to the song. A sight that the both of you created.
" You're mine..."
Your hand slid over to his lower jaw, your thumb gently rubbing his gum. His gaze softened, taking this as a sign to move his hands lower to your hips.
Caine watched you carefully, taking in everything about your appearance.
"Your lips belong to me..."
His voice was soothing; you felt like he could sing you to sleep.
"Yes, they belong to only me..."
You shifted closer, resting your head on his chest. You could feel soft vibrations from his voice, comforting you.
"For eternity."
