Work Text:

The evening sky glittered, illuminated by the amusement park’s lights scattered above all the visitors. Pin and Gaty walked together, hand in hand, sharing some cotton candy. To Pin, this scene, painted in colors against a navy atmosphere, gave her a sense of relaxation. The combined chaos of the flashy decorations and crowds of guests on such a night was quite the spectacle.

In the corner of her eye, she spots a vibrant carousel, a small line of guests forming at the gate. Tentatively, she tapped Gaty’s shoulder.

“Want to go on there?” she asked, a reluctant smile forming on her face as she pointed at the carousel.

Gaty nodded. “It’d be a nice break from walking around so much,” she replied before taking Pin in the direction.

The two scanned their wristbands and chose a wooden horse to ride before the ride started. As the carousel started spinning, Pin had some time to reflect.

Being with Gaty felt so grounding. Everything in her life were drastic highs and lows, never being able to predict how they’d go. Not only that, but she never felt like she could be free being herself; no matter how understanding people are, there was always a small, lingering fear that stopped her from loosening her inhibitions and finally being who she wants to.

   Everyone except Gaty.

She felt different from everyone else. She always managed to calm her constant anxieties, gave understanding nobody else could, and had too much empathy she felt was being wasted on someone like herself. It’s as if Gaty was tethering her to the ground, loving every part of Pin’s identity. Even if she could be blunt, messy, and constantly craving approval, Gaty never saw it as something to be rid of; rather, she treated it as something normal. Gaty never ostracized Pin, never made her feel like her feelings are invalid…it’s something she’s craved for so long and never truly got until now.

Her life was a never-ending carousel; always going around in circles and moving up and down, and it made Pin uncomfortable and paranoid.

Even so, maybe Gaty wanted to get on it with her.
