Work Text:
It is five in the morning.
Yes, Eren’s eyes don’t deceive him.
Did he do something wrong yesterday? Must God punish him like this? He squints, trying to recall what he did, but his mind is too clouded with sleep to think of anything.
He tries to close his eyes again, but he can’t fall back asleep. A quiet sigh slips out; he doesn’t know what to do. He’s never woken up this early before—this is usually Levi’s thing.
Speaking of Levi, the body behind him is warm, melting him deeper into the bed. Levi will wake soon, but not yet.
Eren doesn’t want to disturb him with his fidgeting, but he really wants to see him.
Slowly, he turns his body, untangling the blanket wrapped around his leg. The hand slung over his hip twitches, but other than that, there’s no reaction.
Eren lets out a content sigh. Levi looks so peaceful in sleep. Raising his hand carefully, Eren touches Levi’s jaw; his fingers brush against the faint stubble there. His hand drifts upward, thumb stroking across a cheekbone.
A smile forms on Eren’s face. He remembers how Levi always strokes his cheekbone before kissing him awake.
Pulling his hand back, he nestles closer, pressing his body against Levi’s. He wiggles his legs until they slot between Levi’s, then buries his face in Levi’s neck.
Another sigh escapes him, his body beginning to relax. This feels like heaven.
Levi’s hand twitches again. It moves from Eren’s hip to his shoulder blade, stroking briefly before coming to rest at his neck.
A soft pressure brushes his hair—Levi’s lips. He’s awake now.
Levi sighs, his other hand trapped between their bodies. He wants to move it, and Eren seems to know. With a bit of shifting, Levi slips his hand beneath Eren’s head.
Eren’s lips press against his jaw, a good-morning kiss. Levi answers with one to his forehead.
It’s too early to talk. Both are comfortable, with no urge to rise.
From a distance, they hear the rain tapping against the window. It seems they’ll stay in bed much longer.
