Sutabaa was always a calm, cool place where every single friend and classmate you knew went to. Normally (y/n) wasn’t the type to go to places where the drinks and snacks will make your wallet bleed, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

Being a University student wasn’t easy, and (y/n) was too prideful to call their parents for help. Hearing that such a place that charged a crazy price for a muffin was hiring nearly sent the university student over the moon, but every time they went there to apply for the job, they always got sidetracked. Then again could you blame them? The seats were pretty comfy and for some reason, watching people pass by and making up stories as to why they were there and for what reason always helped them with their homework.

Hey, you can never stop a literature major from writing in their trusty journal. The location never mattered!

But lately, the young university student couldn’t help but feel eyes on them every time they set foot into the place. Glancing around, (y/n)’s eyes spotted him. The young barista with what they could only describe to be as a Beatles haircut. He immediately glanced away when (y/n) turned to him, and continued on with cleaning the counters as though he hadn’t been caught staring. That guy always intrigued (y/n), probably because of the cute way he acted or just how he would smile when their eyes locked whenever (y/n) ordered a small coffee those very, VERY rare times they had some spare change in their pockets. What was he like? What sort of life did he live outside of Sutabaa? Was he an only child? Did he live with his parents or was he on his own? Many questions like this and more raced though (y/n)’s mind, but they never build up the nerve to go and talk with the barista. Then again, they wouldn’t be able to build up the nerve since they were always coming up with new ideas for a story or finally figuring out how to start their assignments once they return home. I guess they will never know about the young barista’s life or find out why he stared at them from time to time before looking away… Or so they thought.

“You know, I always see you here with a journal, do you like coming here alone?”

Hearing a soft, slightly flirtatious sounding voice caused (y/n) to snap their heads to see none other than the barista, standing there with his small, kitten-like smile and a coffee in hand. “U-uh…” (Y/n) mumbled, not really knowing what they should say or do. The last thing they expected to happen that day was meet face to face with that one barista they had yet to speak with. They had spoken with the others, but those two girls were a different story and weren’t as intriguing as the young university student standing before him. “Can I sit down?” He asked politely, tilting head to the side. Snapping back to reality, the young, (h/c) haired student just nodded, watching closely as the barista walked to the empty seat next to him and sat himself down. Placing the coffee cup down onto the table, he turned to (y/n) and let out a soft giggle.

‘Did he actually… Giggle?’ (Y/n) thought to themselves, still amazed at the fact that the young barista was sitting next to them. “So, what are you doing here writing all day?” The barista asked, leaning his chin on the open palm of his hand. It took a while for the words to return to them, but (y/n) made sure to clear their throat before responding. “I uh, I originally come here to answer the help wanted sign, but I end up people watching instead…” They confessed, unsure of what to really say afterwards. Not that they weren’t good at holding a conversation, it was just that, what do you really say to someone you just met out of the blue? The barista let out another little giggle-sounding laugh, seriously though was it a giggle or what? It was cute though, so no complaints. “Is that all? You could have asked for it, the manager is really nice you know.” If (y/n) wasn’t as tired from the up-coming exams for his literature class as they were at that moment, they would have sworn the barista was acting playful and flirty on purpose.

“I hadn’t really thought of that…” (Y/n) mumbled under their breath, watching as the barista scooted a little closer, cute smile still in place as he tilted his head to the side. “Well, I can go talk to him when my break’s over, if you’d like.” He offered, his small smile growing a little at the sight of (y/n)’s excited and surprised expression. “Really?” They asked, their smile growing when the barista nodded his head. “I-I’d really appreciate it if you could…”

“Of course!” He exclaimed, extending his hand for (y/n) to take. “I’m Matsuno Todomatsu, nice to meet you.” (Y/n) didn’t hesitate to take Todomatsu’s hand in their own and give it a swift shake. “I’m (l/n) (y/n), I hope we end up working together soon.” Todomatsu just let out a soft hum, almost as though he were pleased with himself as he shook hands with the cute university student sitting next to him.

“I hope we can be good friends from now on, (y/n) San!”
