When Mo was younger he wasn’t exactly poor. He could be touted as rather affluent when he was young,
Rikuna had her charms and several people wrapped around her pinky, who would trade away everything they had before they chose to stop seeing her.
If anything Rikuna used to live lavishly, she had her maids and apprentices who helped out with the chores. She had a personal chef and a personal designer, she liked choosing non-stop outfits before her meth addiction. She used to be beautiful and glamorous. Smart as well- that’s why the people in her waitlist waited so long just to see her, just to talk to her, a living legend of the red-light district a celebrity who wasn’t a shinobi.
Rikuna chase after the rich and wealthy, who barely spared her a single glance. She did everything she could to attend their parties, their houses, she did everything she could do be a mistress of one which never succeeded. When the opportunity came, she never took it.
Mamoru remembers when he was younger, that his mother almost sold him to a client of hers. A client who was interested in children, who called Mamoru at that age “absolutely stunning”. Mamoru didn’t know what a pedophile was, he never even knew that he himself by technicality could have sex if he wanted to. Luckily, Rikuna refused at the very last second. Not that she would be caught by the police if she sold him, the client was very careful about it and wealthy. The wealthy almost never get caught for their crimes. Rikuna didn’t sell the last living piece of her husband, Kiyoshi, to some guy who will almost certainly ruin Mamoru and just like that Mamoru avoided going down his mother’s path.
Uchiha Minako, a chuunin, was one of the first to confess to Mamoru and in the times he does reject her. She almost always kills Kokoro and Hiro.
She kills them to give Mamoru pain, she kills them because she is jealous. Mo has a tendency to have strong women in his life, sadly, strong doesn’t mean kind- and Minako was anything but kind.
Upon rejection, Mo found out, Minako would run away crying like a normal teenage girl. Nothing like an Uchiha. She would wait outside the academy, wait till Hiro and Kokoro are dismissed and kill them. She would also kill herself before the police could properly arrest her.
Mo remembers the wounds all too well, Kokoro gets stabbed in the eye and Hiro, multiple times in the chest. They bleed out so quickly, before any sort of civilian blood transfers can get to them. Naruto jumps off the building, the Kyuubi is released and Mo is killed in the crossfire.
And so, the smart decision, is to accept Minako’s offer on a date. She loses interest all too quickly, stabilizing, so that when Mo breaks up with her at one point there are no consequences.
Rikuna once called Mamoru beautiful, the eve of children’s day.
