Work Text:

As the sounds of keys jingled against a lemon-based key chain, clinking sounds could be heard, followed by the sound of a door unlocking.

The door made a squeaking sound — soon after, the door opened fully. Alister loudly yelled into the house, "Verri, I'm home! And I got your favorite sweet! Tres leches!"

He awaited the sound of a certain magical girl flooring it to the front door, but quickly realized, "Ah! She's not here; must be fighting that one sand monster today," he mumbled to himself as the realization hit him.

Ah, I should probably get the house ready for Verri. She does get really hungry once she arrives home, he mentally noted down.

Well, I suppose if I can't see my wife right now... I suppose I can watch her on the TV. The media loves their little hero after all.

As Alister made his way into the house — locking the door on his way in — he first moved the groceries he bought earlier in the day to the kitchen, moving in a rather brisk pace.

As he also reminded himself to place the tres leches into the fridge for her to eat up later.

He then moved his paperwork and laptop into his mini office that they had recently switched from a storage room into.

Still not quite used to this being my secondary office, but I can work with this, he thought to himself.

Although his wife didn't like him working at home — with Verri always nagging him to spend less time in the chair and more on his adorable magical girl — he still needed to do it. He was a department head, so he was quite busy with that.

After setting down all the things he brought back home, he moved over to the living room and turned on their shared TV. Opening the news channel, he saw... her.

The most adorable, lovable, beautiful, cute, and endearing woman he had ever known — his beloved wife, Verri M. Cerise.

"Or well, Verri M. Verice," he said as he chuckled to himself. After they got married, they wanted to switch the last name to Verne, but her father... he... began bleeding gold out of his chest cavity...

So, of course, Verri, ever the quick thinker she was, made a compromise to him to only change part of the last name. Truthfully, he was half sure that her father was some sort of deity... but he doubted he'd ever get an answer.

Alister stopped that train of thought for now and quickly returned his focus onto the TV.

As he did, he noticed Verri preparing her strongest attack.

"Heed me, thou that are more azure than justice and more crimson than love…
In the name of those buried in destiny… I shall make this oath to the light.
Mark the hateful beings who stand before us…
Let your strength merge with mine, so that we may deliver the power of love to all…
ARCANA SLAVE!"

As she said each sentence, a ring of pink constructs appeared around her, each with their own different structure.

Until the last one, in the shape of a heart, appeared. As she screamed her final words, a beam of pink and gold light shot forward.

As the sand monster tried to defend itself by constructing a wall in defense, pushing enough sand to cover the Statue of Liberty, it was quickly overwhelmed, pierced through like it was nothing, and burst apart.

Even with such a powerful display of magic, Verri still looked as pretty as ever.

He soon stood up as the battle concluded — he knew all too well how much the news anchors loved recounting and narrating the events of the battle.

So, as the news anchor began recounting the events that had recently passed, Alister instead turned the TV off and began walking towards the kitchen. He began removing the sweets from the fridge and grabbing a can of Dr. Pepper along with it for his wife.

As he moved both beverage and sustenance from the kitchen to the living room, he soon heard a ring from the door.

"Ah, Verri is here." As he placed down the food onto their wooden coffee table, he made his way to the front door and saw his wife — Verri.

"ALIIIII!" she quickly shouted as she hugged him. "OMG, YOU'RE HOME EARLY!?!" She smiled with both cuteness and stars radiating off of her.

"I am, Verri," he chuckled to himself at his wife's excitement.

"Let's get inside. We don't want to wake up the neighbors, do we? Plus, I have something for you inside the house." He laughed as he took a hold of Verri's hand.

As Alister held Verri's hand, he moved her along to the kitchen, with Verri herself being unable to contain her own excitement as to what Ali had for her.

She levitated over his shoulder and moved from left to right as to where he was bringing her in their house. She recognized it was the path to the living room but wasn't sure what was there.

Until she saw... TRES LECHES.

Her eyes sparkled with small stars as she recognized the sweet from anywhere.

"Welcome home, Verri…" he whispered into her ear with a warm tone, one he knew she loved to hear when cuddling.

"Go ahead, the sweet is right there. Feel free to eat it up," he continued while getting closer to her ear.

Verri immediately turned around to her husband, and with stars in her eyes, she jumped and kissed him brazenly.

"THANKS, ALI, OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU!" she said in a loud voice, followed by a giggle that would make any person's heart melt with the pure amount of passion she talked with.

As she turned around, her golden hair swaying, she quickly levitated to the couch and the coffee table standing next to it and grabbed the utensils sitting next to it.

Seemingly preparing to eat it, before she stopped to look at Alister. "Ali, can you grab me a bottle of water, please?" she said in a soft tone.

Alister chuckled. "Of course I can." But before he did, he walked over to Verri and whispered into her ear.

"Happy Anniversary — I know you forgot, but today was the anniversary of our first date," he said before leaning back and going to the kitchen.

Verri, on the other hand, simply sat there for a second thinking about what she had just heard her husband say.

"WEHHHHHHH, I FORGOT!" she screamed as she realized she had forgotten such an important milestone.

Alister, on his part, laughed in the other room as he made his way to the kitchen. "Don't worry, I've got it covered," he spoke from the other room.

Today would be quite the happy day for them, even if his little magical girl was the forgetful type.
