Sam has never hated Gene Hunt. Despite his actions saying contrary, he liked the brutish DCI who was always a bit too loud, too rough. Well, not go as far as to say he liked those individual characteristics, but he likes who they made as a whole.
They made Gene Hunt. And Sam likes Gene Hunt.
He knew he’s liked Gene Hunt since the first time he stepped into the DCI’s office, when he threw him against the filing cabinet and told Sam exactly who he was.
Gene Hunt. At least Sam didn’t spend long wondering who that man was.
