Summary:

Wonwoo looked at the girl in front of her. Her girlfriend. Sitting here with her hair thrown up in a messy bun, her makeup smudged all across her face, wearing one of Wonwoo's t-shirts that was definitely too big for her and a pair of her tiniest short shorts.

"Jisoo. Baby. You have never looked more beautiful than you do right now."

Work Text:

Being Hong Jisoo's girlfriend was relatively easy. She only needed three things to survive; honesty, attention and most importantly, love.

As for whoever Jisoo was dating… they only needed one thing, copious amounts of patience.

Wonwoo was the lucky girl that ended up dating Jisoo, and she could provide those three things quite easily.

She couldn't lie about anything ever, so honesty was one and done.

She loved hearing all about whatever new show Jisoo had started or what new recipe she wanted to try, always smiling ear to ear, giving Jisoo her full attention. Another one checked off the list.

And last but most definitely not least, all she ever did was love. Whether it was doing something simple like grabbing Jisoo's favourite sweater for her when she was cold, or something more involved like, setting up a candlelight dinner with the main course being Jisoo's favourite meal — that Wonwoo tried her hardest not to fuck up — when Jisoo had had a long hard week at work.

As for Wonwoo, patience was greatly needed. Jisoo, like all people, had her moments. And sometimes those moments involved being all over the place, going from crying her eyes out to screaming at Wonwoo over some little thing that had upset her earlier in the day. All this in the span of just a few minutes.

In other words, Jisoo had mood swings.

But Wonwoo loved her anyway. She could deal with the occasional lashing out if it meant being with the girl of her dreams.

Wonwoo shut the door behind her, taking off her shoes by the entrance, placing them neatly next to Jisoo's red converse.

Turning around and walking further into their apartment the view of her girlfriend came to view, curled up on the couch watching a movie with a bowl of popcorn in her lap.

Even though it was dark — the only light source being the glow of the TV — she saw Jisoo turn her head to face her.

"Hey baby. How was your day at work?" Jisoo asked.

"It was okay. You know, same old, same old." Wonwoo replied as she walked towards Jisoo, passing the kitchen on the way and sitting next to her on the couch.

"You wanna watch this with me?" Jisoo said picking up her bowl of popcorn and wiggling it closer to Wonwoo, just before slightly nodding her head at the TV.

As Jisoo held the bowl Wonwoo looked down, noticing her fingernails — a light pink and purple nail design Jisoo had worked on for hours — shining in the light of the TV.

Wonwoo never figured out how the obsession started. One day she'd come home to Jisoo painting her nails at their dining room table and within the next week, over 10 packages had arrived in the mail with different nail equipment ranging from regular polish to an e-file.

Over the course of a few months Jisoo had become a self-proclaimed nail technician. She would do her nails every week always practicing new designs.

And Jisoo had asked, begged, Wonwoo countless times to do her nails. Wonwoo would always reply with "Not right now" or "It's so late baby" but still, she assured Jisoo they would get to it eventually.

Wonwoo shook her head, coming back into the moment.

"Gotta get in the shower first then I can." Wonwoo answered her while steading the now intensely shaking bowl Jisoo was holding and letting out a small chuckle.

"Okay baby. I love you" Jisoo said, then left a quick peck on Wonwoo's cheek before she walked away.

After Wonwoo had finished in the shower, she slipped into their shared bedroom putting on her favourite sweatpants and a white t-shirt.

She looked down at her hands. Her nails bare.

Maybe Jisoo would want to do her nails tonight.

She walked out of their bedroom, into the living room, Jisoo still sitting snug on the couch.

"Hey baby," Wonwoo said approaching Jisoo and taking her hands — now empty, the popcorn bowl looking empty as well, sitting on the coffee table.

"So, I had an idea…" Wonwoo continued, hesitantly, while sitting down next to Jisoo on the couch.

"You're being weird" Jisoo chuckled "What is it?"

"I was just wondering if you… maybe… wanted to… I don't know… paint my nails?"

"What?" Jisoo responded, her face expressionless.

Wonwoo had no idea what was happening. She thought Jisoo would be excited about this. "Do you want to paint my nails?"

"Are you fucking kidding?" Jisoo replied, her face still showing no emotion.

Now Wonwoo seriously didn't know what was going on. "No?"

Jisoo jumped up off the couch, her hands escaping Wonwoo's and her face breaking into the biggest smile Wonwoo had ever seen. "Of course I'll paint your nails! God! I've been waiting so long to hear you ask me that! I was thinking like hey is she ever gonna ask me about her nails? or, am I gonna have to be the one to bring it up again? And-! I didn't want to bother you again with asking because what if you actually didn't want your nails done and-"

"Hey Soo," Wonwoo laughed "Soo, calm down baby."

"Hah… sorry I'm just really excited."

"I can see that baby." Wonwoo replied.

"So you really want me to paint your nails?" Jisoo asked showing slight hesitance.

"Yes baby," Wonwoo said standing up so she could be at eye level with Jisoo again. "I really want you to do my nails."

"Okay then were doing this my way." Jisoo answered very firmly.

"Of course. I wouldn't want it any other way." Wonwoo said, clearly endeared with doing this exactly how her girlfriend wanted.

Over the course of the next ten minutes Jisoo was a mess fluttering all around the apartment grabbing all the tools she would need to use, while Wonwoo sat patiently, watching her from the dining table.

Jisoo sat down in front of Wonwoo, a loud slam of the plastic container she set down following.

"Okay. We need to choose a colour. Now, I'm down for doing a design but I feel like since it's your first time we should start you off with just one colour? How does that sound?" Jisoo asked.

"Yeah. Everything sounds great to me baby." Wonwoo replied smiling, just enamoured with Jisoo and seeing how 'in the zone' she was.

"Okay so," Jisoo started while opening up the container "these are all my regular polishes. I have lots of different shades so choose a colour then we can find the shade that'll compliment you best."

"Sure." Wonwoo replied, but didn't add anything else.

"Um baby…" Jisoo started, watching her attentively, "you have to pick a colour." she finished with a little laugh.

"Oh yeah um… maybe… red? Or is that too much?"

"Oh my god no! It's not too much! Red would be perfect!" Jisoo said excitedly.

Jisoo rummaged through the container taking out all the red polishes as she came across them.

Eventually 7 different shades of red stood before Wonwoo, on the table where the container had been before — set to the side by Jisoo.

"Any of these pique your interest?" Jisoo asked motioning her hands out. As if to show off all the colours at once.

"Um.. this one looks nice." Wonwoo said pointing at a deep red coloured polish.

"Ooh okay!" Jisoo replied picking up the bottle and reading the bottom "117. Cherry Red. I know this is going to look great on you babe." Jisoo said lifting her head up to look at Wonwoo.

Wonwoo blushed. "Thanks baby."

Jisoo quickly got to work, starting with shaping and filing Wonwoo's nails then, applying a clear base coat — obviously she wanted Wonwoo's nails to last as long as possible.

As Jisoo started to paint Wonwoo's nails with the red polish, Wonwoo stared at her in thought. Thoughts reflecting on their relationship and how so much had changed — since they had first gotten together two years ago — running through her mind.

On their first date Wonwoo had been so nervous. It had been a blind date set up by their mutual friends and when Wonwoo saw Jisoo for the first time, her long brown hair draping over her shoulders — a contrast to the now light brown almost dirty blonde hair she had now — she couldn't believe her eyes.

She had known she was a lesbian from a very young age, and had had many crushes on girls in the past but she had never seen anyone as beautiful as Jisoo. Nobody could ever compare to Jisoo.

Jisoo, sitting down at a table in an extremely fancy restaurant — Wonwoo would have never picked a place this high class, not that she didn't want to, she just could never afford it — and in the most gorgeous black dress Wonwoo had ever seen.

All Wonwoo wanted to do was run away. Because, how could someone as beautiful as Jisoo ever want to be with her? A stupid lesbian with no fashion sense and absolutely zero idea of what she was doing in life.

Thankfully just as Wonwoo turned around — ready to walk right out of the restaurant — she heard the sweetest voice ever.

"Wonwoo?"

It was Jisoo.

Wonwoo slowly turned around, lips curling up into a shy smile.

The rest of the night was incredible. They talked for way too long at the restaurant — all the way to closing time, their waitress having to tell them to leave — then Wonwoo took Jisoo back to her apartment and they spent a wonderful night together, a night that Wonwoo wouldn't ever be able to forget.

The rest was history.

A cough broke Wonwoo out of her thoughts.

"Whatcha thinking about in that pretty head of yours?" Jisoo said resting her hands under her chin. Wonwoo looked down realizing she had finished painting her nails.

"Oh um… just remembering… you know… stuff." Wonwoo replied.

"Oh yeah?" Jisoo said, turning her head to the side and smirking just a little "What kind of stuff?"

"About our first date. I was so nervous when I saw you. You looked so beautiful back then." Wonwoo replied.

"Back then?" Jisoo wondered "What about now? Is my age finally showing?" she said, whispering the last part and covering her mouth as if it was a secret.

Wonwoo looked at the girl in front of her. Her girlfriend. Sitting here with her hair thrown up in a messy bun, her makeup smudged all across her face, wearing one of Wonwoo's t-shirts that was definitely too big for her and a pair of her tiniest short shorts.

"Jisoo. Baby. You have never looked more beautiful than you do right now." Wonwoo replied to her with all the sincerity in her body.

"Really?" Jisoo asked, trying to hide her face away, clearly shy after receiving the compliment.

"Really." Wonwoo said gently holding her face and slowly moving closer to press a kiss on Jisoo's lips.

Once they pulled apart Jisoo just stared at her with such love in her eyes. Love that slowly morphed into realization. "Hey! Don't move your hands yet! What if the polish isn't dry?" Jisoo exclaimed, frantically pulling Wonwoo's hands away from her face and checking her nails to make sure the polish hadn't smudged.

"Sorry baby." Wonwoo smiled and giggled, amused at her girlfriend's reaction.

"All good baby." Jisoo pressed a kiss to her cheek "They're all dry which means… it's top coat time!" Jisoo said pulling out the shiny clear top coat from somewhere behind her.

"How long have you been sitting on that?" Wonwoo asked chuckling.

"Oh I don't know like fifteen minutes?" Jisoo replied tossing the bottle between her two hands. "It's still pretty warm do you wanna feel?" She shoved the bottle towards Wonwoo.

"Oh my god! I didn't mean it literally you weirdo." Wonwoo responded, laughing while trying to push away Jisoo's hands.

"I know baby. It was just sitting on the chair." Jisoo said giggling.

Jisoo then made quick work of applying the top coat.

Later that night as Wonwoo sat on their couch, her beautiful girlfriend laying down with her head in her lap, she realized this is the only thing she ever wanted in life.
