“And, uh, yeah, I… I miss you a lot so just- stay safe for me, okay? I love you.”
Jirou clicks send and stares at her phone while the voice message sends. It’s hardly original, yet another twenty minutes of her recounting her day and ending it in the same exact way she has for the past three days. She can’t help it, though. She misses her girlfriend—they’ve barely gotten any time to talk since she left, mostly short phone calls cut short by someone asking for Momo, ending with quick I love you’s and kisses before it was back to a silent, lonely apartment.
The message finally sends and Jirou keeps staring at her phone for a few minutes longer, hoping that, maybe, this time, Momo will see it and they'll have a few more minutes to actually call each other.
As usual, Momo’s apparently busy and the status stays stuck on sent. Sighing, Jirou tosses her phone aside, standing up and stretching her arms above her head. Two more days, she tells herself. Two days and Momo will be back. It still feels like way too long, but it’s a small amount of comfort that Jirou will gladly take while she goes around her apartment, looking for things to busy herself with.
The ding of the dryer rings just in time and Jirou sighs as she makes her way to the washroom, preparing herself for about an hour of folding clothes and watching her favorite show. But as she starts pulling the clothes into her laundry basket, she spots one of Momo’s hoodies. It’s nothing flashy, plain black with a red pouch, and incredibly soft on the inside.
It’s also still warm.
Jirou’s eyes shift from the hoodie, to the pile of laundry she’s gathered up, before eventually grabbing it and pulling it on. Immediately, her shoulders relax completed as she sighs, walking back to the living room and letting herself fall onto the couch.
A little nap wouldn’t hurt, right?
“And, uh, yeah, I… I miss you a lot so just- stay safe for me, okay? I love you.”
Momo smiles down at her phone, cuddling further into the sweater she managed to sneak into her luggage before she left. It’s Jirou’s, but she doesn’t think her girlfriend minds it—she doubts Jirou even noticed, or, if she has, she hasn’t commented on it.
Shifting into a more comfortable position, Momo clicks on the mic button and starts talking about her own day.
Just two more days and she can see her girlfriend again.
