Work Header

you're the light I never found

Summary:

When he's in deep concentration staring at their children and Satomi scolds him for calling the strawberries that.

"Isn't that exactly what they are, though?" Kyouji insists.

Notes:

And baby, 'til you came along
There was always something wrong
Around me
There was emptiness of course
But it's alright
And it's easy
Easy lovin' you

Work Text:

Life is good, their strawberries are sweet. Kyouji is on a leash, well behaved. He still doesn't entirely know what he's doing, how someone like him could have someone like Satomi, a life as pure and simple as this. But it's hard to think he shouldn't when Satomi hugs him from behind randomly in the middle of the night, when they're in bed and their cold feet keep finding each other.

When they work together, eat together and sleep together and it still feels warm and exciting every day.

When he's in deep concentration staring at their children and Satomi scolds him for calling the strawberries that.

"Isn't that exactly what they are, though?" Kyouji insists.

"They're too pretty to be your children." Kyouji laughs and laughs and laughs, a positive reinforcement for when Satomi makes a joke, even if it's such a mean one, but mostly because it's genuinely funny.

It's even funnier because Satomi often says things he doesn't entirely mean.

He'll talk shit about Kyouji then spend long moments touching his face, memorizing every inch of it, getting so close Kyouji feels more than naked under his gaze.

"What's with the long face, puppy?"

"It's hot, go away" Satomi will say, but stay right where he is, letting himself be held by Kyouji. Kyouji won't ever understand why, but Satomi always seems to think this is exactly where he belongs, inside Kyouji's inked arms.

Satomi's birthday comes around and he's told Kyoujj before that he doesn't really care about it, even refusing to tell him the date. Kyouji begs to differ.

It's a busy time for them, but Kyouji finds it to be useful, it makes Satomi distracted, the thoughts inside his little head always worrying about pollinating the early flowers and nothing else.

Kyouji cooks and that in itself isn't something Satomi would find strange because he often does. Kyouji never thought he would, not with how he spent years without stepping foot inside the kitchen and how he has always had a preference for taking Satomi out instead. Satomi had even called it a power move once, when particularly irritated, like he almost resented Kyouji's money.

But now Kyouji doesn't have it, or at least he doesn't show it, and they don't go out to eat, but he wants to keep Satomi well fed all the same.

It's not often that he goes overboard, though. Mostly because Satomi will complain, but also because it feels special when he does.

"We're two people here, you do realize that, right?" Satomi sighs, but he does look impressed with the variety of things Kyouji's managed to make in a few hours alone here.

And he doesn't have time to complain when the food is actually good and specially after Kyouji finally shows him the puppy he got for him, making Satomi forget to call him an idiot again when they're putting the leftovers away.

After a few weeks, Kyouji's not so sure getting the dog was a good idea anymore.

It wants to sleep with them, it wants Satomi all to himself and it gets in the way whenever they're about to do it.

"Ah, so this is how you treat your son, Kyouji-san?"

And Kyouji's annoyed that, while Satomi's solely saying it to be a little shit, he still finds it cute.

"Not our son."

"The strawberries can be our children and the dog can't? What's your logic here?"

"Plants are nicer. And quieter."

"Yes, plants are certainly better than you Kyouji-san."

"You just spend too long with him."

"I spend way longer in the greenhouse."

"Day time. Not night time, bed time, Satomi-kun." He's almost pouting and he's sure Satomi finds it gross but Kyouji's hoping he'll find it a little bit endearing too.

"Oh? So this is just about Kyouji-san being a pervert, I get it now"

Kyouji can't believe that's his life now, that he has to fight for attention with a dog, as if getting Satomi's attention isn't hard enough sometimes.

He isn't one to give up, though, so he keeps poking Satomi's cheek and whining until Satomi glares in exasperation and lets the dog out before closing the door.

"Satomi-kun is a pervert too?" Kyouji teases, pushing his own luck by being insufferable the second he gets what he wants.

"Hn" Satomi agrees and closes the curtains too.

"That's why you kidnapped me to the middle of nowhere with you?" He pretends to be shocked and Satomi must be a good mood because instead of telling him to shut up he just places himself in Kyouji's lap, making sure their bodies are touching as much as possible, and hugging him.

"Exactly. So you can't escape anymore."

Kyouji laughs. Where would he even go?

"Very scary, Satomi-kun." It comes out as a joke, but Kyouji's not even lying. Everything about this is a little scary still, like he could lose it in a second, or wake up tomorrow to it all being a dream. And he doesn't miss the apathy, doesn't miss the daily pack of cigarettes, doesn't miss Satomi being so unhappy and frustrated with him.

"I'm counting on you, then." Kyouji says in his ear. "Never let me go."
