Sonic woke first, which was pretty strange, but miracles do happen. The sun was shinning, warm rays filtering through the blinds, birds tweeting and the morning dew was long dried. He grumbles at nothing and turns over, unsurprised to find Amy sleeping beside him, quills ruffled from the pillows. Silently, he observes her adoringly.
She's gorgeous, laying on her stomach, hands lost underneath her pillows, breathing evenly. She's so calm and serene, so must unlike their lives, and it makes him smile. When she's awake, she's bold, bright, bossy, and everything he loves about her. Amy like this, totally still and relaxed, was beautiful too. How her laugh lines relaxed, the softness that only comes with sleep, the melody of her breathing. Gently, he brushes one of her quills from her eyes.
He loves it all, every bit of her. He curls closer, tangling their legs together, arms wrapping around her stomach, stopping briefly to lovingly trace her stretch marks. He presses his head right under her chin, being careful not to wake her with all his moving. He breaths in deeply, taking in her scent that he's already committed to heart. She smells like summer grass, heavenly roses, and something uniquely Amy. Her loving and caring nature, her protectiveness, and some sort of cosmic odor that clings to her from Piko Piko.
He's so distracted that he misses the patter of small feet, or the low creek of their door opening. He doesn't notice them until Poppy, in her high pitched squeal, finally shouts.
"Daddy! Mommy! Wake up!" Two bodies crash onto them, pushing and pulling, all he could do was laugh. Amy was laughing too, wriggling to turn on her back as Dash, adorned in her favorite blue pjs, straddles her stomach. He smiles, already tickling Poppy senseless.
