Work Text:
A chilly setting roomed along the streets of Winnipeg; Pyua and Nate just got back from a traders market, their shopping baskets full of goodies from the vendors and traders that had a stand at the popular event in the city.
Nate adjusted his new sunglasses he had just bought, they had a red tint, to resemble the boys eye color: “Do you think they look better if I put them down like this, orrrr….push them all the way up to my nose?”, Nate asked, moving the glasses up and down. Pyua on the other hand, just stared at the night sky, admiring the skyline of their beloved city.
“Pyua?”
“Eh?”
“I asked, do you think they look better if I put them down like this, or, push them all the way up to my nose?”
“Maybe put it in the middle if you can’t decide, the way the glasses fall on your nose don’t affect how handsome you look tonight..”
“…!”
“…”
“Thanks, Pyua…”
Nate smiled. He looked at Pyua, who he found staring at him as if he was conflicted. “Hey, what’s with the staring, mate?”
No answer.
Pyua then turned and gestured at the night sky filled with brimming stars. All the clouds from the day before had disappeared, leaving them with a good view on the star play; faintly, you could even distinguish Venus, far away, a bit blurry, but still enough to see it.
“You know, Nate…the universe has always reminded me of you, it shines bright, full of secrets just waiting to be unraveled, you can never know everything about it, each time you think, you’ve figured it out, a new thing happens in an instant, unpredictable.”, Pyua muttered. “Have you..ever thought of becoming a poet? That was amazing!”, Nate’s yelped.
Pyua turned his head towards the brunette again: “You liked it?” To that, Nate chuckled: “Of course I did, silly! But..all this talking ‘round the universe, after the evening we just spent together, does make me think of one question in specific..” Pyua turned towards Nate, again turning his gaze on his best friend: “Hm, what is it?” “Pyua, are you free tonight?”, Nate asked, grabbing the boys hands, as if wanting to keep them warm from the breezing cold winter air. “To- uhh..get a drink or something, watch some crappy movies, make pizza, have a good talk…”, Nate looked to the side, blushing as he still held Pyua’s hands in his. “My interest is piqued..mind if we go to a café and have a nice talk?”, the white haired boy answered. “I’d be flattered a million times!”
The boys sat down at the next best café they could find, their table had a nice view at the skyline of the city. “Hm, let’s see what they’ve got on card..”, Nate said as he grabbed a menu displayed on the table. “Hm..a “Oh De Iced Umberry Milkshake” sounds funny…I like the names they give their drinks, hehe! Ohhh or look at this one “Wallnut In Lime Love”! Do you like lime, Pyua?” The latter chuckled, nodding: “I do, I think it’s better compared to lemons, a bit more sweet is just the perfect touch towards a good night, I’ll take that one..” To this, Nate smiled wide: “Hmm, I’ll take the Kiss In Lemon Love”, then, I’d love myself a sour taste; anddddd..we can match drinks!”, Nate looked up from his menu and smiled at Pyua.
Soon, a waiter arrived with their orders. “One Wallnut ILL, and one Kiss ILL for the sirs, thanks for your order and enjoy the drinks!”, the young woman in the working uniform placed the two beverages on the table between the boys. “Thanks!”, Nate smiled at her. “Thank you,”, Pyua said, almost at the same time.
Nate took hold of his drink and took one big sip: “Mmmhhh, this tastes just perfect! Similar to the name, too! A kiss of bitter love!”
A kiss of bitter love.
A kiss of BITTER love.
“Bitter, bitter love. Just like the cruel fate that had to be brought upon me and Nate.”
Pyua sat on the ground, holding Nate’s sunglasses in hand, struggling to open his mouth as he clutched them.
“I think the glasses looked better when he had them down on his nose, I could see his eyes better that way. I didn’t dare to say it. I wish I would’ve. He could’ve seen the feelings portrayed through my eyes better, without the red tint. He could’ve seen the love I had for him on that special day I let my emotions take over my brain. I could’ve confessed that night. I really, really wish I fucking would’ve.”
The white haired boy took the sunglasses out of clutch and put them on the ground in front of him: Nate’s grave.
“May you rest in love, my sweet boy.”
