Sway

Summary:

That's why she should've stopped.

But she didn't. That wasn't anyone's mistake but hers. She hated to admit so.

Jinx hated humans with all her might. But how could she hate such familiar eyes?

☆ ☆ ☆

After Silco's death, Jinx is sent to Earth, her birth planet. But why would he send her there? And how does her inability to have a soulmate enter the picture?

Notes:

English is not my first language, and I edit this alone, so I hope that there are not that many grammatical mistakes.

This is the story to take me out of that wretched 5 month long writer's block, so chapters are gonna be shorter. Please bear with me.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: See you Soon

Chapter Text

☆ ☆ ☆
November

She really should've stopped. It wouldn't have been written there otherwise, with that bright blue.

She could've swallowed the burning heat that transcended from her phone. Gently cradled in her hands, its screen lighting up every now and then. With such an amazing contrast against the black screen, the little icon in white knotted her stomach more every second.

He needed to make her guts burst. His voice alone made it worth it.

Damn it. She should've stopped a long time ago.

There was no way she could've ever been that dumb for coming back, for her to be so easily entertained, so easy to please. Like that, to trip her into a rabbit hole of forgetting the purpose.

Just because she wanted to talk.

Even though she should've stopped.

September

Jinx stood in the mangled crowd, people changing shapes and colors. She was confused by so many different smells scattered in such a small space, mixing into a spiral of doubt. They were so different but same. She hated it.

Her finger brushed the hem of her skirt, scrunching the fabric between her fingers, like trying to squeeze the urge of punching some innocent face.

Why were they so infuriating?

How could he choose them?

Why would he love them more?

Humans. They could be interesting, she needed to admit. They loved to bask in simplicity but rejected practicality so easily. They loved to think like her, some more than others, but still, humans love of thought warranted for it to be explosive, brains scattered into many pieces of unwritten sentences.

Maybe it was just her. Because if all of them had so many thoughts, they would go insane. She was sure of it. Jinx was insane, so she should know. Well, partially insane, as insanity was a human trait only. Any human would think of her as bonkers, so she agreed.

Jinx loved the uncomfortable truth. Truth was painful, but not as much as a bullet wound could be. That was why her passion for producing weaponry lasted. Why it wasn't gone long ago, replaced.

But somehow the truth of not having a soulmate hurt more than any bullet could. Why, though? She asked herself. It was such a feeble concept. Something only humans should understand. No matter how much fascination she held for the creatures, she despised them the same amount. Partly for the reason of her being half of the same weak race. The weakness of being so attached and vulnerable was made for them, created like a mold for their passions. So why weren't they the ones who had it woven into their life so precisely? It would've been easier for her that way. To understand. Jinx understood most things.

And she couldn't understand why he loved them so much. They hurt him.

"Hey! Are you okay?" A high-pitched voice touched her shoulder so lightly.

Jinx turned, flinching in the process, the contact angering her senses further. What waited for her were giant, blue eyes glinting with worry. The unknown person also stumbled, seemingly aware of her distress. Jinx gripped her own wrist, desperately trying to calm herself. She promised that she would behave after all.

"Oh! Sorry, did I scare you?" She said. The pink strands fell over her eyes, making her appear even more innocent. It was becoming increasingly creepy.

Suddenly, Jinx decided she didn't like this girl at all. Especially not the bright, pink lipstick that made her lips all pouty and cute. It wasn't ugly, not on the pretty girl at least. It couldn't be ugly when it reminded her so much of Lux. The princess would wear the similar shade with head high and back straight. But Lux would never look at Jinx like that, with the look of pure pity. And that made me despise this new person instantly.

"No," Jinx replied, an unintentional hiss followed her word, betraying the lacking wall of make believe she built.

"Well, you seemed kind of lost." The girl followed Jinx's gaze, as if she was unafraid. "I've never seen you around here. Are you new?" A shiny smile stretched her face, desperately trying to brighten the situation.

"Maybe."

"What year and class are you in?" She clapped positively, delighted she got that much information, as if it wasn't barely more than nothing. "I'd love to help."

"Who said that I need your help?"

"I didn't say you do?" With a little sloppy look, she caught sight of papers in Jinx's hands, all jumbled up. "Oh! You're in Ekko's class! That's amazing!"

Jinx was never organized. Even the documents that she received just this morning were already all over her room. She couldn't say she liked it. The species she belonged to were calculated creatures.

It was too human to lose track of one's belongings.

That sentance was stamped on her as if it were a known fact. The quote was something Jinx was seldom insecure about.

The fact that the girl before her noticed triggered Jinx even more. She was a boisterous nightmare, Jinx decided. "Look, Princess Bubblegum. I don't want help from someone who looks like a walking lightstick."

"Thank you!" She took off as if Jinx never commented on her appearance, glancing back at her every other step. "Let's go, we'll be late. Luckily you have an art class right now, the teacher doesn't care."

Jinx didn't like her, not a little bit. But she would be lying if she said that she wasn't lost. "I never gave you a fucking compliment!"

She would follow the Christmas present looking menace.

☆ ☆ ☆

The classroom was more than enough. It was packed with pure sunlight, letting drawings breathe. There weren't many people inside, seemingly absent. Or were classes so small nowadays? Did such rules change from the last time she visited Earth's schools?

The energy of the room was as bright as the sun hugging it, like it made people addicted, seeping into their glowy skin and similar smiles. Her new classmates conversed lightly, there was no yelling or arguing, just serene whispers of moving hands. They multitasked, basking in their freedom. The freedom that allowed all the landscapes on the walls to shine. They depicted many places, probably done by the same person as were many knickknacks across the room, presented like at the auction, the one where nothing was left out.

"Ekko! Look what my humble soul stumbled upon!" Princess Bubblegum squealed, jumping in her step, a little pink frog coming for the calm bug on the steady leaf. Her arm hooked around his neck. He was engulfed in his painting, though, not even noticing the hyper being on his shoulder. So, she decided to look closer, tilting her head to look at his creation. She was nothing short of obnoxious, touchy, and unrestrained. However, the boy handled it with so much composure, ignoring her with impressive intensity. "Oh, that's a pretty color." Her smile from before mellowed out, melting into a polite one. "Are you trying it out again?"

Like to a siren's call, he perked up. The eyes that were previously draped with white dreads now showed themselves to Jinx, full of wonder. "Yeah, you know it's my favorite."

With one look at the menace, his eyes shifted a tad bit, glancing at her briefly.

"This is your new classmate." She shimmied her fingers Jinxs's way, so proud of her discovery.

"Jinx." She said it before registering it, her face gaining a confused expression.

"I'm Jinx."

Notes:

Hope it's half decent.

This is my first timebomb fic. (I already posted one before, but I deleted it in a spiral where I thought I was the worst writer in the world lol, I get like that sometimes.) I hope that characters are not too ooc.

I was thinking of actually adding a drawing to every chapter, but I still don't know about that. Will decide on that later on.

Interaction is always encouraged. I hope you have an amazing day or night, wherever you are <3.
