Work Text:
Viktor was the first to admit, he wasn’t the greatest at cooking.
Obviously, being born into nobility, he never really needed to learn many life skills. Even after being cursed, he always had Rob, and later Alice to cook for him. (It wasn’t his fault she made everything so delicious!) When he cooked, he usually had the help of someone else. There were times he made something himself, but those were few and far between, only on special occasions.
Speaking of special occasions…
Viktor was preparing breakfast in bed for Alice. A full english, which was simple enough that he didn’t have to worry about completely destroying it.
When Viktor first had this idea, he’d run into the immediate problem of how he would serve it to her. Alice had the superhuman talent to sleep for exactly seven hours, always rising before him. Viktor was often able to convince her to come back to bed with the promise of cuddles, but that wasn’t an option today.
He’d tried many ways to get up earlier without waking Alice, but none were successful. The solution was as simple as it was difficult: Viktor hadn’t slept at all the night before. The upside? He had all the time he needed to cook breakfast before Alice awoke. The downside? He’d be doing so while struggling to keep his eyes open.
But, he’d faced challenges before, and he hadn’t backed down. Victor was resolute, he was going to make Alice’s day.
Once everything was cooked, Viktor transferred it to a plate and carefully carried it upstairs. He’d timed it perfectly, Alice had just woken up and was sleepily searching for him when he walked into the room.
“Alice,” He called, smiling from ear to ear.
“Lord Viktor,” she replied, returning the smile. She began to get out of bed, but Viktor crossed the room before she could.
“You don’t need to get up. I made breakfast.” Viktor set the tray down in front of his wife(!) and sat at the foot of the bed.
“Thank you, my lord. But you didn’t need to do this.”
“Of course I did! You’re always doing things for me. What kind of husband would I be if I didn’t show my wife-” Viktor’s heart skipped a beat- “how special she is? Besides, don’t you remember what day it is?”
Alice didn’t respond at first, taken aback by Viktor’s words. “Ah, that’s right. Today was the day I came here, three years ago.”
“Exactly! I couldn’t let the day go by without marking the occasion. Three years ago, you came into my life again, and saved me from myself.” Viktor swallowed, and looked up. “We’ve made a lot of memories since then. Makes it bittersweet that we’ll be leaving soon, doesn’t it?” Viktor shook his head and looked back at his wife. “But enough about that. Go on, eat! Before it gets cold.”
Alice took a few bites before saying, “It’s delicious, my love. Thank you so much.”
His wife’s words dug their way into his chest and burst, filling Viktor with warmth. He bashfully covered his face. “Happy anniversary, Alice.”
