Chapter 1: One

Chapter Text

Fauna laid staring at her ceiling, a small plushie in her arms. She couldn’t sleep at all, her mind was racing and wouldn’t stop. Her, all of Council and IRyS were good friends. Really good friends. Constantly hanging out, streaming together, first on their contacts, constantly supporting each other, everything. Maybe she had gotten a bit too close with them.

She had developed quite some feelings for them. Her heart beating a small bit faster every time the group was together. Now she was in bed overthinking everything they have.

“How will this affect their relationship?” “Will they return feelings?” “Is she right to feel this way?” “What if she gets friend zoned, then what?”

She couldn’t find an answer for any one of those questions.

The white noise of her fan was the one thing in the room, pure darkness around her. It was just her, the small plushie, and her overthinking mind.

And it stayed that way for a few hours, or was in just some minutes, she had no real means of telling time so it could’ve just been an hour, or it could’ve been 5. Eventually even her racing mind grew weary and sleep took her…

A few hours later…

Fauna awoke from her sleep. She barely realized she had fallen asleep at all. Her hair was messy, plushie was still nestled in her arms, a soft comforter draped over her body, stray rays of light seeping through the blinds of her window.

It was peaceful. She often enjoyed these quiet, peaceful moments. Such as taking a walk through the forest with nothing but her nature around her. Birds singing and chirping for each other, the sound of a distant waterfall or stream flowing. It was bliss. Maybe a walk would be nice later.

She sat up with a yawn, tossing her legs over the edge of her bed. Dropping down to get ready for the day. She brushed her teeth and hair, washed herself, changed clothing, etc.

While showering, she had gone back to the questions she asked herself during the night before.

“Would they accept it?” “Would they reject her?” “Are they even slightly attracted to her in the first place?”

She still had no answer for any of them.

“Maybe a walk for some fresh air could clear her head? Yeah. That would be nice.” She thought.

She left her home to go to her favorite small trail. Not many people, just her, the wildlife and the plants all around her. The leaves crunched under her feet as she walked, birds chirping, trees stretching out farther than anyone could see.

Well other than Raora with her god eyes, who was likely sleeping on a box or something at Justice HQ. She almost laughed at the memory of Gigi telling her about how the three others had to pull the cat out of the box.

She smiled at the pleasant memory.

After a few moments of tranquility, Fauna managed to spot a few birds high in the trees, watching over the land below, singing their melodies for all in the forest to hear.

A bit further down the trail, she found a bench to sit and rest, simply staring out at the landscape. All of the small streams of water, all the trees rising from the Earth, the life all in perfect balance and harmony with each other.

It was beautiful. It calmed her mind from all the questions that filled her head.

She finally found an answer to one of those questions. She just needed to ask.
