Chapter Text
Rut woke up in her bed, her short ginger hair laid splayed out under her and her bed was all messy.
She opened her dark Brown eyes and looked around in her room. Her walls were a light pink and decorated with tiny glow in the dark stars. Her big bed was a enchanting royal purple and was decorated with many pillows. Her white warderobe was wide open, inside it were her many dresses and shoes. On top of her warderobe was her tiara, the tiara was golden with pearls and a big pink gem in the middle.
She rose out of her bed with a long yawn and walked to her warderobe. After a minute she decided to wear her favourite purple dress. The dress was a deep plum color with golden edges and pink gems, going perfectly with her tiara.
But just as she picked the dress up she was interuppted by her older sister, Daisy.
"Rut, are you done in there!?" Daisy yelled, Rut knew her sister had always been a early bird, but not to the extent of waking up at 7am! But, Rut just groaned and rolled her eyes.
"I just woke up, go annoy Queenie or something!" She yelled back to her sister who stood behind the door. After a moment she picked her plum colored dress back up and put it on along with her tiara. She looked in the mirror, for a second. Then remembering she would get to visit the Village today a smile rose on her face.
But she quickly shook those thoughts away and walked out of her room into the palace. Outside her room the ginger haired girl was greeted by one of the royal guards, Rolo. She had never been the nicest to Rut, but she appreciate that unlike Zacce (another one of the royal guards), Rolo wasn't super energetic or overly playful.
"Queen wants to see you." Rolo simply said, her voice steady and unwavering. Rut always found it funny that her oldest sisters name was Queen, but it did fit her. Her skin pale and her long, majestic hair was the color of newly fallen snow in midwinter, her eyes were a crystal icy blue to top it all off.
"Okay." Rut simply responded as she made her way to her eldest sisters room. When she arrived and opened the door, she could see not only queen, but also her older Brother Solero and her older sister Daisy. Solero had fairly light skin and long blonde hair, his ears sometimes looked elf like and his eyes were a deep amber. He was wearing a light cyanish blue color. Daisy however had dark skin and nearly black Brown hair that was always tied into braids. Today she wore a long yet simple white dress with a light blue tint, her tiara was silver and had white and light blue crystals in it.
Queen wore a baby blue long dress with glittering silver embroidery whoch sparkled in the sun. Her crown was big and grand, it was made of platinum with diamonds on it. Her room was soft baby blue, Queen favorite color. Her bed was massive, it stood on a tiny platform in the middle of her room. From above the bed Hung see-through blue curtains with stars on them. Her blanket was made of the softest and finest silk in the nation.
"What did you call me here for?" Rut asked, her tone tired yet curious. She noticed the glass door to the balcony was open, making her short hair sway in the wind.
"Well, we are going to the village today as you all know. But that isn't the reason I called you all here. The real reason is that tomorrow, we are meeting with the empress of Keia. I just wanted you all you know so you could mentally prepare." Queen said, her voice as soft as the silk her blankets were made of.
'Keia!? But thats miles away!' Rut thought. And not only that, keia was known as the land of darkness and fog, making it even scarier to the 14 year old princess.
"Anyways, you all can begin making your way to the Village, i'll come soon. I just need to get some work finished.." Queen said, a tiny tear forming in her glass-like eyes. Everyone sighed. But Rut began walking through the palace to the royal carrige, knowing that soon enough, she'll see her friend.
The palace looked as if it was made of crystals, the roof was made of colored and stained glass, making the halls glow in every color and shade of the rainbow. Outside the castle leaves were falling. All of them colored as if they were a flame.

"Rut!" Her best friend Måd yelled. Altough Rut had just stepped out of the carrige that didn't stop Måd from picking her up and spinning her around before hugging her tightly. "Youre finally here! C'mon, lets go to my house!" Måd yelled to her friend. Måds skin was dark, but her hair was the color of charcoal, it was wild, tangled and untamed like a flame in a tree. She wore a sage green dress that was ripping apart at the seams, literally. And while Rut wore the finest golden heels, Måd wore black, dirty and broken flats.
Upon entering the house, Rut realised no one but her Måd were inside, but it did make sense. Måds parents were farmers, so they were almost never home. The house was made of dark wood, it had likely been there a while as it was breaking apart. The windows were almost fully broken. In the middle of the tiny livingroom was a fireplace, the fire was faintly burning in the unlit house. Infront of it was a dark green couch, well, it had all colors of the rainbow as it had patches of cloth sewn to it. Beside the couch was the door to Måds bedroom.
The two girls entered the bedroom. in the middle of the floor was a dirt dark orange carpet, it seems slightly torn apart. on the walls a bunch of pictures were hung up. Måds bed was made of dark wood and her blanket was dark green. the beds legs were uneven, books were placed under the shorter legs to make the bed more even. Måd closed her bedroom door then turned to her younger friend, her long hair flowing in the slight wind. Måds amber eyes looked into Ruts eyes. Rut looked around, making sure no one followed them and no one could hear them.
"The village looked so empty today, what happened?" Rut finally asked, her ginger hair swaying lightly in the cold breeze. Ruts voice was slightly shaky, but it was true. upon arrival the streets were almost fully empty, the well had obvious cobwebs, houses were dark and no sound could be heard. The crops had long ago died and there weren't even people at the market. Måd looked saddened by the the question, she closed her dark amber eyes, tiny tears forming before opening her eyes back up again. she held her hands close to her heart as she took a deep breath.
"You..you seriously dont know?" Måds voice portrayed many things, sadness, shock, suprise, and even anger. her eyes widened slightly as she spoke and she tilted her head slightly to the right. she walked slowly to her window, putting her hands on the wood below it. she looked out over the village she had lived her whole life in, to Rut, Måd looked like a widow who lost her husband out at sea and now she speaks to it, hoping it can bring him back. "A week ago, Your knights came down here. they killed everything in sight, i had to hide on a wooden beam connected to the roof to not be discovered. i don't know who they were recieving orders from, but i could hear them talk about "Not wanting to do it" and "Being so sorry". if i didn't know better, i'd feel sorry for them." the charcoal haired girl said, still looking out the window. she sighed deeply, before opening her mouth again. "I just wish i could stop it. they said something about a "round two". i dont know what to do anymore." She finished.
Rut looked deep in thought for a moment before quickly looking back up, her eyes glistening with a idea. "I might know a way!" she began, quickly catching Måds attention. "Since they're the royal knights, i can just easily follow them!" She yelled a bit too lightly. Måd quickly shushed her and looked around. "Sorry! but, i can easily follow them and i can get Queenie to stop it." She whisper-yelled excitedly, her eyes still sparkling and the cold breeze movig her hair slightly.
Måd looked hopefull at the idea, her eyes lighting up and a smile finding its way onto her face. "I'll help. i may not be able to do a lot, but i can do my best from here
