Work Text:
The moonlight hung softly, illuminating the picnic. Chance lays in the soft grass, Mafioso sitting on top of the picnic blanket. It wasn’t exactly a “picnic” per se, yet a quiet warmth that hung softly between them. A warmth only achievable through comfort and trust.
“Mafi,” Chance’s voice rang out, soft and quiet. Mafioso crammed his neck to see his dear lover.
“Yes, darling?” His question hung in the air, soft and awaiting an answer.
Chance sighed, closing his eyes for only a second, the moonlight illuminating his grey features. “Thank you,” they stated, eyes fluttering to meet the ones obscured by shadow. “Thank you for giving me a chance.(EPIC NAME DROP??) Thank you for not killing me when you could. Thank you for loving me.”
Mafioso stared, questions plastered across his face. “Darling..” he whispered, carefully moving a stray grey hair from Chance’s face. “Where is this coming from?”
Silence answers. And Mafioso patiently waits.
“I..” Chance looks to the sky, thoughts swirling in his mind. “I’m not sure. But I thought I’d say it. Say that I love you.” Mafioso’s ears flickered at the sound of those words. Those precious words that hold so much meaning.
“I love you too, Chance,” he smiled, voice barely a whisper. “I love you dearly.”
“I know..” Chance sighed heavily. Their mind flickering with unspoken desires. Soft unwanted tears started to swell in their eyes. Concern now hung on Mafioso’s hidden face.
“Come here..” Mafioso said softly; reaching his arms out. His tough facade was gone, vanished. No longer existing with his dear lover.
Chance obliged, hastily moving to Mafioso’s warm embrace. Once in Mafioso’s arms, the tears started to fall, warm and filled with love and sorrow.
Soft kisses pressed against the gambler’s head, fedora now removed. Mafioso’s tail twitched slightly, his bunny ears dropping in relaxation. Chance softly lets out sobs in Mafioso’s arms, trust swelling in their body.
Lazy circles were drawn on Chance’s back with Mafioso’s fingers. The kisses continued, warm and conforming. Gentle and sweet. All polar opposites of what Mafioso truly was. Yet Chance didn’t mind. Never would mind. All that mattered was the love that hung between them, comforting and never retreating.
Tears stained Mafioso’s jet black overcoat, yet he didn’t mind. If it meant the comfort of his lover, then nothing mattered. “I love you,” Mafioso said once more, reassuring in all the right ways. And that’s exactly what Chance wants. What Chance needs.
Chance exhaled a shaken sigh, tears no longer falling. Yet they keep their head firmly placed against the mafia boss's shoulder.
“You're safe,” Mafioso started, softly rubbing Chance’s back. “You will always be safe with me. Forever and always.”
Those words hit. And they hit hard. Like an arrow to the heart. But they hit hard the right way. The correct way.
Soon, those damned eyelids of theirs started to droop. But they refused to succumb to sleep. Desperately wanting to stay with their lover. And Mafioso sensed this.
“It’s all right..” He whispered, hands now cupping Chance’s cheeks. Chance could only pout, too exhausted to come up with a witty quip.
Chance’s hands trailed lightly to grasp Mafioso’s sturdy arms. His ears twitched at the contact, but refused to move. He slowly but surely moved Chance’s face closer, taking his lips in a warm kiss.
A kiss that seemed to last forever.
A kiss that you never want to break out of.
A kiss only lovers share…
And it was just that..
