Teen Angst by M83

Summary:

Dio Brando and Jonathan Joestar are studying at the same university. Despite Jonathan's constant attempts to create a friendship, he is blatantly rejected. What exactly he did to invoke this punishment, he is unsure. Maybe it's fate or just bad luck but they seem to bump into each other far too often for it to be brushed off as a 'coincidence'.

Chapter 1: Study Buddies

Chapter Text

Jonathan Joestar sat in the musty, quiet, library; and like many students, dark circles seemed a permanent feature alongside matted bedhead and bloodshot eyes. Craned over an ancient laptop, he sighed. It had been hours since he’d eaten, longer since he had showered, and longest since he’d slept more than a few hours.

“Who decides to write their thesis on ancient medicines…” he muttered, thumbing through one of many surrounding textbooks.

Jonathan could kick himself- he was an anthropology major not some damn pharmacist. Meanwhile, those little comments were getting on every last nerve of his neighbor, none other than the infamous Dio Brando. He was a star student despite little effort and an even better athlete despite no training. That being said however, he was the bane of Jonathan’s existence. It didn’t help that Jojo was constantly getting on his nerves by trying to be polite- even trying to be friends. The muttering resumed, getting more frustrated and strained each time. There was a grating sound as Dio got out of his chair. He took loud and deliberate footsteps as he neared. He let out a very dramatic sigh as he leaned against the divider separating an organized workspace from that of the mess of highlighted notes that was Joestars. Jonathan jumped at the sudden brooding presence.

“D-Dio- I didn’t see you there!” He tried to recover with a charming grin.
Dio scoffed and turned away, how someone so exhausted could still try to be polite was unknown to him.

“I don’t suppose that you would know that libraries were meant to be quiet, would you, Joestar?” The blond mocked, eyes cold and demeaning.
Jojo cocked his head, furrowing his brow. Was he too loud with his papers... was he subconsciously clicking his pen?

“I’m talking about your mumbling, it’s aggravating.” Dio rolled his eyes at the apparent confusion. “You keep talking to yourself and it’s distracting for those of us who are actually going to pass our finals.”

A bright blush quickly spread across Jonathan’s face in realization. The whole time he thought he had been thinking he must have been talking out loud. How much had Dio overheard?

“Just don’t do it again,” He quipped, giving Jojo’s shoulder a slight shove as he turned to leave. “Oh and try to get some sleep, the whole angsty teen vampire look went out of style a decade ago.”
