Work Text:
“I would never do what they are saying I did. I love my charity too much,” Ace slumps down on the couch in Graham’s house. They have been spending almost every night together for the past few months, going back and forth to each other's houses.
“Anyone who knows you or seen you talk about it can tell that.” Graham says from the kitchen making them some food.
“Graham, can you get me a drink as dark as my unforgiving soul?” Opening the cabinet he looks at the glasses touching one of the short glasses, before bypassing it for a taller glass. Smiling, he opens the fridge and finds Ace’s almond milk. He pours a large glass. He walks out and hands it to her. “I feel like I should be insulted.”
“You should be,” he sits down, throwing his arm around her shoulders. “Ace, you do not have a dark soul. Not even as an angry teenager. You my love, have a light soul.”
“I do not.” She takes a drink.
“I know you, and have met most that knew you growing up, including someone that spent every day with you for years. They all say you were angry, but always looking out for the little guy and when someone deserved to be punished, you wanted to help out. The Doctor always knew in your heart that if you hurt someone; that you would beat yourself up about it for the next month.” She finishes the glass.
“Fine, I have a light soul,” she sarcastically retorts.
Graham kisses her on the cheek, “no need to be sarcastic.” He gets up to finish making dinner.
“You know I can have a dark soul,” she comes up behind him after putting her glass in the sink and wrapping her arms around his waist.
“A dark mind yes, but you have a heart of gold.”
“Graham, come on.”
“Ace, I know you don’t believe me, but you have a good soul, one of the best. Someone who was handed your life would have the right to hate everyone in the world.”
“I hate people.”
“You dislike people, and only those that deserve to be.”
“How do you know me so well?”
“I love you, and I am still learning new things about you, now back up, I need to put this hot pad on the table.”
“You really don’t want to burn me?”
“In any way. Being able to get to know your heart on a personal level is a gift.”
“Stop it.”
“Never. A new goal as of now is to remind you how amazing you are.” A slow smile grows on his face.
“Don’t you.”
“Or should I say Ace?”
“You’re incorrigible.” Ace lightly laughs and shakes her head taking a bite of food.
Later that night, Ace is relaxing in the bathtub as Graham comes in and hands her a glass of wine with a glass for him in the other. Ace scoots forward as he hands his glass over to get undressed and slide in behind her.
“In all seriousness, how should we handle what they said about you?”
“Graham, I love you, but this is my fight.” She takes a sip relaxing against his chest.
“Whenever something hurts you it becomes a problem for the both of us.”
“I am going in early tomorrow and the board will be meeting with me.”
“Want me to make food for everyone?”
“I’ll get back to you on that. For the rest of the night; all I want is to be peaceful with my lover.”
Kissing the top of her head, “we can do that.”
