Chapter Text

On the third Saturday in the month of September, stood in the lobby of the Hotel La Maison in France a very deranged and exhausted 27 years old George Russell. The day just started, and he cannot wait to get cosy in his comfortable bed back at his humble little apartment in London. He has promised to meet Alex exactly at 7am, and now that he thought of it who the hell would start their wedding reception so early in the morning.

Are people really that excited to decide and tie themselves up with someone for the rest of their life. Honestly, it can’t be him because clearly, he can’t even decide whether to just strangle Alex for making him get up super early in the morning when he’s not even here in the first place or to bear hug him first thing after not seeing him for more than 2 months.

George train of thoughts were interrupted by a loud shrieking voice of someone calling his name from the distance. “Georgieeeeeeee” called Alex as he flapped his arm around while running towards George with full speed ready to attack him with a soul-crashing hug.

George caught him just in time before they both could potentially dive face first to the floor. “Woahhh okay hello to you too Alex” George giggled and let out a breath of relief. “Heheeh I really miss you Georgie I have not seen you since my reception with Lily, why didn’t you pick up your call or reply to any of my messages?”

Alex pulled away to get a better look at George before continuing “You’re not avoiding me aren’t you?” with a suspicious look. George looked away for a second trying to hide his guilt and wished he didn’t get confronted too early in the day. “Well, there’s just stuff going on back home and I need to handle them

Lies

I am really sorry, I didn’t mean to avoid you, I just wanted you guys to spend time together after the honeymoon”

Truth – sort of.

Alex took a longer look at the boy that was an inch taller than him and squeezed him one last time before deciding to let him go,  “Alright if you say so, Lily really misses you too”. George flinched a little and quickly hid it after hearing Alex’s wife's name. Upon seeing the reaction with a lower voice, he asked “Is everything okay Georgie? You know you can tell me anything right?”

George really wishes he could tell his best friend of 15 years that he really wants him. From the bottom of his cold little heart, he only wants Alex to himself. That he has been in love with him since when he couldn’t even remember when because that’s just who Alex is, he makes you feel warm, complete and forget all your worries. His smile can brighten up the normal gloomy day in London, his laugh oh George could die any day to hear that laugh any day.

But with Lily, his smile has never been brighter, his laugh never been louder, his eyes never lit up the way they do when land on the sight of Lily. From the moment Alex first laid eyes on Lily he knew, he could never be a match to her. Part of him still hold on to the hope that maybe, just maybe Alex will look at him the same way he does for Lily…

“Georgieeee, earth to Georgeee!” George snapped himself from the split-second daydreaming he didn’t even realize he just had. He’s faced with a very concerned Alex that apparently has been trying to get his attention. “Uhmm sorry I was thinking about just how fast the time flies it as if it was just yesterday you met her” George said while trying to plaster a genuine smile.

Alex chuckled a little and that just spread a warm feeling in George’s chest involuntarily. “I know right, it felt like a dream, couldn’t believe four years ago she was our first anonymous client for our runaway bride gig who wanted to escape her crazy fiancé that time”.

George remembers the day quiet vividly when he got the email in his inbox for a very first request gig. He and Alex have been posting online for a willingness to do any kind of job (as long as its legal and safe, of course) back then 4 years ago as they both struggle to land any full-time job  or part time job to keep them both afloat. (Damn you capitalism!) The request was very… odd but it was crazy amount of pay for such a weird gig.

Honestly, George did not hesitate to accept that offer but Alex on the other hand was more cautious and told him “We need to be a reliable adult George”. Seriously, posting a job online and stating ‘willing to do anything’ is far from being reliable George thought.

After going back and forth and weighing the pros (getting the money to cover their expenses for more than 2 months) and the cons (cashless and homeless) they decided to just go with it and pray for the best.

The request was simple; on the promised date Alex will wait for the so-called runaway bride outside her hotel room at 9 in the morning right after she is done with the make-up and George will be in the car waiting to hit the gas . Why after make-up you ask, well who doesn’t want to look good while dramatically fleeing their own wedding with some strangers you met online. Might as well make the best out of it (George was told after that the make-up artist was non-refundable).

It sounds simple and easy to execute but on the day of the event, George got cold feet (how ironic) and almost aborted the mission. But with how head over heels George is for Alex, he decided to abandon the idea entirely and focus on getting it together. George really can’t stand the idea of seeing the disappointment plastered on Alex’s face.

He would say the mission did fail successfully, the runaway bride forgot to mention the most important detail which is her hotel room number. Thankfully in the email, it was mentioned which level she will be at on that day, and it took Alex almost an hour to find the room and honestly George was surprised just how they manage to not get in trouble at all. Let's just say its a beginner luck.

Right after finding the room, Alex accidently heard a very private conversation of the bride and groom. The bride, Lily, did confess saying she didn’t want to continue with their ceremony and relationship. But the groom however, with hurt ego started to lash out and flip things around dangerously.

Hearing that, Alex couldn't stay still or wait any longer so he tried to take matters into his own hands but Lily was one step ahead took charge and slapped the groom across the face. While the groom was still in shock, with no hesitation Lily grabbed her belonging along with Alex hand and flee the scene. And George could say the rest of their love story is not an important piece of information worth mentioning.

Now this business gig has been running on smoothly for almost 4 years anonymously. Shockingly the business thrived so well that made George wonder if he accidently manifested and channel all his remaining luck to this gig. Wedding Crasher™, what they have been calling themselves is a small but very successful business that provide several services.

Ranges from assisting with a runaway act for a bride, groom or both, exposing cheater(s), wedding disruptor, spill red wine on guest’s white dress or on today’s agenda object the wedding entirely.

But this gig hits differently than the others, because this will be their last run together since Alex has told George before his wedding that he will want to settle down with Lily somewhere in the countryside of the UK. At first George thought he heard wrong, he really can’t comprehend what has just been told to him. Playing pranks is a usual occurrence in their daily life but not this time said Alex.

It took George a good minute to gain back his conscious surroundings and really digest all the words he just heard. He really thought of leaving the space and just cry his eyes out somewhere behind a random bin, but he decided that matter could wait. Honestly, what can George do? Of course he’s going to support whatever dream Alex wants to pursue despite all the urge to just be the most selfish person and tell him off.

“Okay so first sorry for being late, I know I told you to meet me here at 7 O’clock but before you say anything I have a valid reason why I’m down here at 8.30” plead Alex while trying to convince the man. “You’re lucky I love you and you’re my best friend, if not I will just fly back right at this moment” George while trying to hide his small smirk.

“I know you love me, heheh so yeah what happened was Lily-” George cut him off before he could finish his reasoning while pulling his arm with him “Doesn’t matter, we are late now and we have some poor man  wedding to ruin let’s go” and start walking  to the direction of the hall.

“Wait George I-”

“Come on I know it’s our last gig, but I'm not going to leave things on a bad note” said George with no intention on making a pit stop for another chit chat about Lily "It's really bad for our branding and reputation".

“Okay but can we slow down abit and shouldn’t we go through the plan one last time?" said Alex while struggling to keep up with George’s pace despite having a long leg himself. George stopped abruptly causing Alex to almost collide with his back and he turned around dramatically to face Alex “Ughh fine we can go through the plan again for I don't know the hundredth time”

As much as George wants to get this gig done with, he couldn't ignore this somewhat hollow sad feeling in his chest. It sounds way too dramatic but it might be his last time seeing Alex for quite some time. Alex is a married man now, with an unfortunately loving and thoughtful wife standing close by his side with no sign of leaving.

If it's for George he won't let go of him either, it's Alex he's talking about right here. George needs to move on at some point, with this gig ending he thought it will do him good. In what way? He has absolutely no idea and if only he knew what's coming for him. The next few hours will change his life, and let's say it will be for good.

As he let out a shaky breath of air, Max slowly opened his eyes and was greeted by none other than the magnificent stunning view of the grassy hill and acres of land covered by purple field of lavender that stretched yards.

Max took another swift breath of fresh air from outside of his balcony while trying to take it all in. Today is the most important day, he thought to himself. He had rehearsed the event in his head thousands of times yet he couldn't brush off the feeling that something might go wrong and he'd messed it all up.

After taking one last look at the stunning view, Max really couldn't get enough of it, he slowly turned his back towards his room and was faced with none other than his best friend Lando Norris who has been apparently has been following his breathing exercise for awhile now.

"Someone seems nervous" his tone teasing . "When did you get here and how did you get in?" asked Max calmly (for now).

"Well first of all rude, I look this dashing and you didn't see me?" said Lando as he pointed at himself and continued "And to answer your questions, I was here long before your last round of breathing exercise and I'm your best man, of course I'd have the key to your suite"  he stated matter-of-factly.

Max who was previously standing outside of his balcony was trying to regain his composure, striding towards Lando and landed right in front of him with an unamused look. "The key is to be used only when there's an emergency and from the look of it there's none" he remarked while heavily emphasising on the word only.

"Yeah I know, I know and no actually you are wrong we do have an emergency-" before Lando could continue he was interrupted and bombarded with question. "What happened, what went wrong, did she bail on me, what is it, did they mess up the set, do people not get their cue, did he-"

Before Max could continue to throw any more questions, Lando stopped him by putting firm hands on each of his shoulders forcing him to calm down. "Whoa, whoa, whoa mate chill out it's not that kind of emergency" he left no room for Max to interrupt and continue "Everything is fine, man I feel like a jerk , you seemed too tense so I thought I could crack a joke and try to get a laugh out of you" finished Lando as he tried to appeal as innocent as possible.

Max first met Lando during the orientation of their freshman year back in their university days. He didn't actually even plan to be there in the first place as he promised himself he will just lay low and mind his own business until his graduation day.

But Lando had different plans, on the very first day he sat himself next to Max uninvited and striked a conversation despite his existence being ignored for 20 minutes straight. "Have you ever tried not talking and minding your own business?" said Max annoyed finally acknowledging his presence.

"Well hello to you too, I didn't know you can talk" replied Lando while looking amused at Max. "No mate I can't mind my own business this is my first day and I don't want to be alone" he took a quick look at Max waiting for answer but got replied with an unimpressed face instead.

"….Okay, I will shut up now" he finished talking while slowly lowering his head down.

Feeling a little bit guilty and defeated, with a sigh, Max finally replied "Fine, I can accompany you but only today and we are not friends strictly".

What a funny last word.

He thought wrong.

And it was the opposite of whatever he had in mind.

Max couldn't escape him as they shared almost all the same classes together and he had no choice but to befriend him. He won't admit that fact as he really wants to avoid all the teasing from his best friend Lando.

Well Max will be lying if he said he wasn't grateful that Lando forced himself into his life and words couldn't describe how much he actually appreciated having Lando as his support system. After all the struggles and fun times they shared during their academic years, they have been inseparable since.

But right now all Max could think of is definitely not how much he appreciate his dear friend who apparently had the time of his life trying to play a prank on him. He could name a thousand of different ways to get back at his friend but Max thought that he could just let it slide and it could wait.

What was on today's agenda are far way more important than anything that could come up his way.

"You're lucky today is special, if it wasn't you wouldn't be off the hook" scoffed Max while trying to wiggle his way out from his friend's hold. "Okay you can think of a way to deal with me later because seriously we are late now and we should really get down in T minus 2 minutes " replied Lando now feeling a little bit at ease.

"Now let's get you ready and suited up, we really need to get down soon" said Lando as he reached out for the tailored dark blue blazer that Max had specially requested for his big day. He turned around to let his friend help him to get ready.

"Okay mate, before we go, any last words?" Lando once again trying to ease the tension off his friend.

"Funny" replied Max with unimpressed tone and continued "Are we a 100% sure that everyone is in their position? They are all there?"

"Yes Max for the gazillion time everything is at place, the music, the flowers, everything and the only thing missing is the groom, so come on before they declare us as missing" Lando started to feel a little bit frustrated and decided to just push his friend out of the room to the direction of the elevator.

Max tried to resist the push and honestly Lando did help him to feel a little bit at ease but he wont admit it out loud "I am purely capable of walking myself thank you very much".

Upon their arrival downstairs, they were greeted with the overwhelming lobby that were packed with people, suitcases and everything in between. The ground floor was swamped with people who were either checking in or out, the hotel porter pushing packed baggage carts.

Max and Lando navigated their way to the wedding hall having to dodge a few people and the baggage cart like a pro.

Max and Lando safely arrived in one piece right in front of the hall entrance. The door is closed shut, inside awaits all the people that have gathered for Max's special day. "This is it mate, the moment you have been waiting for years, finally coming true" Lando said proudly while his hand reached for the door knob of the big mahogany double glass door and added "You sure about this right?".

Max release a breath that he didn't realize he was holding and replied "Yeah…it feels quite surreal but I am sure with what I'm doing for once".

"Alright, I will see you inside" Lando's last words before he disappeared inside the hall.

Now Max is left alone again with his own thoughts and couldn't help the crimson red mark that formed on his cheeks after thinking about seeing the love of his live today. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn't even realize the chuckle the was let out involuntarily.

In the same area, just right behind the circular glass table that held a massive vase of mixed fresh pink peonies and rose flowers stood George Russell who had been witnessing and observing the man that he had recognised as the groom of the wedding. The wedding he is about to object according to the email.

The email was…odd.

It's not like he has never seen it all before from a request but what raised a question was the fact that he was instructed to act as if he had a secret relationship with the groom. The reason he felt odd was because in the past 4 years he has never been told to lie as it has always been about dropping the truth bomb.

Like that one wedding where he was instructed by the bride to showcase her supposed future husband cheating shenanigans with her aunt and it was the truth. He knows his line of work doesn't really fall under the morally accurate box but he never had to lie.

George was instructed to object the wedding on the basis of the groom having a secret relationship with him. Why him, because now that Alex is married, George feels like it doesn't seem fitting for him to do the honour of objecting. He volunteered himself as the man for this role.

He even prepared before hand and made his own research on how to make the situation more dramatic than it already was. As if he needed those research to be more dramatic said Alex.

He wondered which sick bloke wants this man's life destroyed. That man even smiled all by himself like an idiot and George almost had the heart to feel bad. Almost because he had learned the hard way from the past years to mind his own business and just follow as per instructed by the clients.

Letting your emotions getting in the way is very bad for his line of work and truly, we will never know what actually happens behind the closed door. Sure some of his clients intentions were straight up illogical and beyond comprehension but at the same time its not his place to judge. Because when he started this business he knew things would never be rational in the first place.

He had to expect the unexpected.

But George couldn't help himself but feel a little sympathy for this poor man's life. His chest felt heavy but he is not sure if its from the guilt, anxiety or a mix of both. He would usually just brush it off but this time he can feel the extra weight of the hollowness.

While waiting for his cue, George thought to himself, what a pity, he really does think the groom is quite dashing himself in the full tailored dark blue suit.

As he saw the blond entering the hall, George took a last deep breath to calm himself down and as the door to the hall slammed shut that was his cue to execute the brilliant plan.

"Well, here goes nothing".

Chapter 3

Notes:

Hi! Sorry for the delay, here goes the new chapter :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

An evening at the humble little country house backyard garden where George and his family call their home is filled with loud screeching noise of cheerful children playing. The children in question are George and his siblings or to be more precise, not including George, as he's trying his best to silence the noise around him and treat it like a background noise.

Their backyard garden, where most of the evening activities were being held, was stretched out acre wood filled with grass like a sea of green wave. At an oddly placed big apple tree in the middle was where George was shaded under.

He loves to sit there and let the time pass by doing nothing, anything and everything at the same time. His idea of relaxing are quite different than any of his siblings. He preferred to be one with nature rather than destruction to it.

The backyard garden is connected to their opened kitchen where George caught a glimpse of his parents being in a deep hush conversation. He sometimes wonder what could they really be discussing on, and should he be worried? Feeling nervous and unsure led him to sweaty hands.

Trying not think too much about it, he shifted his full attention back to the paragraph he's been rereading for a couple of times now. Unable to focus, he is having a hard time paying attention with two things happening at once. George had never really been a fan of reading, but he thought to give it a try as he was gifted "The Alchemist" by his sister last Christmas.

"George catch!" shouted Benjy who was trying to get his little brother's attention who seems to be into the book he's holding. He threw the ball with full force towards George whom had been minding his own business and had absolutely no idea that he was part of the throw and catch game.

He managed to react just in time catching the ball before it hit his face but because of the nervous feeling from the moment before , it slipped right out of his grasp as his hands was slippery and hit the grass instead.

George had no idea how a mundane evening a few years back crossed his mind as he was busy at the moment bolting down the corridor of the hotel with one sticky hand hurriedly reaching for his pocket for his phone. While the other tried to hold a steady grip pulling none other than Max Verstappen closer to him.

It seems silly yes, George knows it because he himself couldn't fanthom his own spontaneous action.

How did they even get to this point in the first place?

As the groom entered through the door, George took it as his cue to swiftly enter the hall and after years of experience its no stranger for him not to get caught. Conveniently, the empty seat was available at the last row on the left side of the ceremony hall.

He slipped right through and immediately tried to blend in with the crowd and thankfully he was always prepared. He was dressed similar to the rest of the invitees, the usual rodeo suits with apparently unmatched and vibrant tie.

George had one too many suits for his and Alex's gig but now his row of hanging suits have started to collect dust in his cupboard. Now that he once again will be declared unemployed, he might want to, no, need to sell some of his suits for a starter. He still can't believe he had got to through this stage of his life again. Well if only….

Suddenly there was a loud notification coming from his pocket that stopped his train of thoughts. He could feel heads starting to turn towards his direction, some with shocked expressions, some with annoyed faces and a few judgemental stares.

George immediately put his phone to silent with a bit of struggle. He then took a quick look at the notification and saw a text from none other than his friend, Alex asking if everything was going as planned. Before he could reply, he was interrupted by someone he didn't even realised was sitting next to him.

"Great venue right, couldn't believe he would spend this much just for a f-" before the random man could finish his sentence another person he assumed was the other plus one silenced him. "Hey, they told us its a quiet wedding, we can't be going around sticking our nose where they don't belong" scolded the person between gritted teeth.

Now that George thought of it, the venue was indeed great and breathtaking. He was too busy getting his plan together that he didn't even get the chance to appreciate how the venue didn't make him feel suffocated despite being small in size. On each side of the hall attached from end to end, floor to ceiling, a huge glass window with an acre land of vibrant purple lavender fields as a view.

"What a stunningly beautiful place to get married, sadly I'm here to ruin it" whispered George to himself.

Wedding ceremony usually went with the standard procedure of the groom standing at the front with the officiant and his groomsmen on the right. Max stood tall and sharp yet seems obviously nervous while waiting for the ceremony to proceed with the next agenda. Patiently waiting for the bride to enter.

George on the other hand silently had to go over the plan as if he wasn't the one that got tired of it. The plan was simple, but he need to be precise with timing. All he needed to do was to wait for the right timing during the ceremony of you know the all "I do" part to happen and that's when he needs to strike. A simple scream of 'I object!' was all he needed to do and for a little extra drama he came up with a little speech to stir up the pot.

What an evil mastermind.

He took another look at the groom and wondered to himself if he ever encountered this man ever before. From the look of it, he might have some memories but he can't really quite put a pin on. It felt somewhat close yet so distant. It could have been Déjà vu but it felt too familiar and too real to be one, it might be a factual memory.

Before further hurting his head with all these nonsense trivial thoughts, he turned his attention back to what actually matters. The objection plan that will eventually ruin this entire peaceful setting of a wonderful early morning wedding. In a normal day to day life people will look at George crazy if he was to explain what he did for work.

His master plan was fully equipped ranging from memorized scripts to escape routes. To be safe, George took one last check around the area to make sure he can make a smooth transition to exit after causing chaos later.

A sudden melancholic music vibrate through the wedding hall can be heard setting the mood to a more calmer tone. Everyone's attentions were suddenly shifted to the back of the hall when the door swings wide open revealing none other the bride in the stunning white lace wedding dress with mermaid overskirt and veil that fall just below her waistline. All the guests stood up from their seats for respect and to get a better view of the bride walking elegantly down the aisle with fresh hand-held flowers in both of her hands.

After what feels like an eternity, she finally stood tall in front of the blond who was apparently so smitten that George is worried that he might get cramped for smiling that wide. The ceremony finally starts and the officiant start his speech as usual.

George had heard it all for far too many times that he couldn't even count. He is now equipped with new skills, he remembered every single words and he can tune out all the noise too. This time however, was not really the place to practice these particular skills. It is very important for him to pay attention with the current affair.

Okay maybe George did zoned out because he almost missed the 'I do' part.

Wait, have the vows been exchange?

Did he missed it?

Did he seriously just missed that?

They did right?

Right….?

Oh well, what can George do, it wasn't like he ever did pay attention to any of the vows at any of the wedding he attended. He did try to focus during Alex's vows, he genuinely did try, but its not directed to him so why should he care? He really need to get over Alex before it consumed him any further, drowning him in the deep sea of endless void and denial.

The officiant's voices brought him back to reality and something shifted in him, making him more alert than before. Waiting for his cue to carry out his plan. "Now without waiting any longer, let's proceed with our main agenda, shall we?" finished the officiant with a hint of Australian accent as he looked at both the bride and groom for approval. Both nod their head as a sign to continue.

"This it it, I have to be ready…" thought George to himself. He is now in position, ready to get up at any second. He had done similar jobs hundreds of times, but this one in particular really gave him the jitters. He could hear his heart pounding in his chest with nervousness.

“Do you Max Emillian Verstappen take th-”

“I OBJECT!”

Everyone in the hall hurried to search for the source of the noise that just abruptly put the wedding on hold. They wonder who dared to stop this marriage and what sort of fate whoever this person is, will face.

George had rose from his seat and apparently half-way darted down the aisle. Many look shocked, some couldn't believe what they just heard, the rest were in a state of utter confusion.

Max on the other hand, tried to hold his composure, but the nervousness was slowly cracking out of his calm porcelain nature. The bride shot a look towards him and George while asking cautiously "Max.. who is this guy?". "I.…, I have no idea, sir please what are you doing here?" said Max through his gritted teeth, his voice just above a whisper.

Light,

Camera,

Action!

"How dare you Max Emillian Verstappen!" George howled.

Dramatic Pause.

"We have spend countless night together in my bedroom, you whispered sweet nothings in my ear, we shared almost all of our meals together, you met my sister for god sake Max!" He didn't leave any room for interruption nor the basic survival function which was to breathe.

"You even promised me we will fly to Paris and celebrate our anniversary together!" said George assertively. This revelation had resulted in gasps from the guests as well as the bride while Max looked terrified and mostly more confuse than he ever did before.

"Just for me to find out that its all fake! You were never going to bring me to Paris because you're getting married here? With this unknown person I have absolutely no idea about? Am I just a piece of pawn in your big game chess of life Max?!" said George as his chest heaved with deep, ragged breaths after the dropping the shocking news.

"WAIT! I have absolutely no idea who you are sir, please leave this premise right now!" pleaded Max as he looked around the room desperate for anyone to stop this madness.

"Wow Max, after everything we went through you just want to throw me out just like that, unwanted?" he tried to sound in disbelief and muffled the last sentence with pleading eyes.

"Do I mean nothing to you?"

The cherry on top.

"Max is this true? All the things he said was it true?!" asked the bride with threatening voice, eyes never leaving Max sight.

"No please let me expl—"

The bride delivered a harsh slap across Max face silenced him immediately. His hand slowly reached the spot on his now red cheek.

"You bastard! I don't want to see your face ever again!" shouted the bride and before she could strike again George took that as his cue to do something he can't even remember if it was even part of the plan.

And scene.

Going further from here George is no longer faking but acting purely based on instinct.

"Seems like you have nowhere to go besides running away with me" stated George as he reached for Max's unoccupied hand and started to sprint down the aisle with every pair of eyes looking shocked as ever following them like a trail.

George pushed through the wedding hall door and he can faintly hear someone, might be one of the groomsmen, calling out for Max's name. George could care less for the chaos he just left behind, now he had a different problem literally in hand.

What was he thinking bolting away with the person who high chance will beat him up right there at the hotel lobby. He needs to come up with something real quick since he just did the unthinkable. George was struggling trying to take his phone out from his pocket whilst try to maintain a strong grip on Max's hand. With a sweaty hand he really did find it hard to keep a hold on both.

Finally got his hand on the phone, he dialed Alex's number with precision and thankfully he picked up just after the first ring.

"Alex change of plans we are not going through the main lobby door, meet us at the Back of House, now!" said George urgently.

"Okay I'm on my way but George what did you do? Wait who's we and us, are you not alone?!"

It was really hard to focus on your escape route while trying to get a quick look on the person you were dragging with so George decided to just look straight ahead (mostly because he was terrified to look him the eye).

"I will explain later just hurry!" George can hear from the other end of the line Alex was already making a move.

Was I drop as a child? What was I thinking?

Notes:

Wish George could object MY wedding and run away with me... if only.
