Work Text:
"Would you like to go out with me?" Babe stood just inches from Charlie's face, a smile on his face that could melt the hardest heart.
"Should I?" Charlie made a great effort to look cold even though his heart was being defeated.
"Of course! I'm handsome, attentive, polite, and I make people laugh. I made you laugh earlier."
"Because the other option was to cry."
"Let's go on a date, and you'll see how you won't shed a single tear unless you ask me to make you cry."
Babe whispered those words into Charlie's ear, sending a shiver down his spine. Charlie's weakness was his boundless imagination.
"I'm curious... But I must say no."
"Why? Can't you, or don't you want to?"
"I can't."
"Are you married? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"None of that."
"Then?"
"I can't go out with you because I'm still handcuffed to this table in this little room at your police station. And I don't know when you're going to let me go."
"Oh! Right! How silly of me!" Charlie didn't believe it for a second. Babe uncuffed him. "You're free to go, but first I need you to do two things."
"Which ones?"
"Say yes to the date and give me your phone number."
"Do you do this with all the men you arrest?"
"Only the ones I like. And you're the first." Babe winked at Charlie, who smiled sheepishly.
When Charlie left, Babe had his yes and his phone number. It was going to be a unforgettable date. He was sure of it.
