The cod mask was a sacred item in the codlands, a symbol of royalty and status. But, it also held a much deeper meaning to the wearer.

To Jimmy it was a lifeline. Something to help his rule. He's been accused of being too emotional and the people can't have an emotional king.

That's where the mask comes in.

It allows him to be impartial, to not give much away, like a tether to impartiality, to make sure no one can see how the teasing hurts him. How livid sausage and fwhip makes him.
