Work Text:
When Spencer got her first period she didn't tell anyone. She didn't tell her mother - or Melissa, and she didn't tell any of her friends even though sometimes she felt like people around her could maybe just tell. It happened at night and when she woke up with bloodied underwear all she could feel was shame. Despite knowing that this was a very natural occurrence and probably something she should tell at least her mom about, she kept it to herself and spent that week's pocket money on a pack of both pads and tampons and tried both out, weighing the pros and cons on her own.
The first person to discover this secret was thankfully not Alison, but instead Melissa; and by some miracle she seemed to understand Spencer's reasoning on why she would hide the tampons in shoe boxes and throw out the waste in bins at the park and library instead of at home. Or maybe she didn't get it (even Spencer herself didn't really understand it) but the ease in which she accepted it when she found Spencer in the middle of the night trying her best to scrub blood out of a mistake of white skirt is something Spencer will always hold close to her heart.
