Chapter Text
Running.
The man ran through the water-soaked streets of Kamiyama.
Slap… slap… slap…
He took a sharp breath, turning a corner and hiding. He had used this machine already - years ago. But today he planned to do it again. Why? He wanted to make people smile. To make them happy.
But not everyone was happy with that idea.
He was on the run. He had to hide the machine from those after him - those who knew he was creating artificial life.
He implanted those final shreds of DNA into the sliders he arranged, slamming each into the machine after a button press. The small machine made a beep, then began to shake. But he knew they’d be after him again. So, he hid the machine behind a cardboard box.
“… Sooon…”
He murmured, staring at the machine.
“Soon, there will be more joy. More joy in this cold world…”
He looked around, then backed out of the alleyway.
“I’m sorry, I have to go. But I will return someday. Hide… and protect…”
The man continued to evade, leaving the machine hidden…
And it soon began to glow.
…
Monday morning, at exactly 7PM.
Several households got a bit weird.
The Hoshino household got an extra member seemingly out of nowhere.
“Oh, Naoki! Your sister is just brushing her teeth right now.”
… Ichika raised an eyebrow as she listened through the bathroom door. Who is her mother talking to…? She doesn’t know a Naoki, or even have a sister. Then, the door creaked open.
The Mochizuki household was in the same boat.
“Honami? Could you help me and organise the laundry?”
Honami smiled as her mother called, walking through to help.
“Oh, of course I can, mom. What do you need help with?”
“I can’t tell what’s Haru’s clothes and what’s Kiyomi’s clothes.”
“Haru is a size-… heh?”
“What’s the matter?”
“… Mom? Who’s… Kiyomi?”
The Hinomori household changed, too.
“Shii?”
“Yeah? What’s up?”
“Mom asked me if I could pick up Shinako up from preschool in an hour…”
“… Shinako?” Shiho looked at Shizuku in confusion.
“Who’s that?”
“… That’s what I was wondering, too…”
And so did the Hanasato household.
“Hya! And step! And- wAAH!”
Minori crashed to the ground, sighing in disappointment.
“Oh no! I totally screwed that up! I have to get this dance memorised by Friday, or-“
“Wooo!!”
“… H-HAH?”
“Go Minori! I believe in you!”
“Oh? Thank you!-… WAIT! WHO ARE YOU?!”
The Kiritani household, as well.
“Hm… An wants to hang out tomorrow? I’ll have to work out time in my schedule…”
Haruka looked at her (float) planner sheet with a sigh.
“Where did I put that penguin pen…”
“I-It’s here, onee-san.”
“Oh, thank y-…”
Haruka stared at the girl next to her in shock.
The Momoi household was already quite sister-ful. And yet…
“Hey, does anyone know where my pink light sticks went?” Airi asks her sisters with a smile. Her younger sister tilts her head.
“Oh, the pink one? I think Emiko borrowed it.”
Airi’s eyes widened.
“… What.”
Her older sister nodded.
“Mhm, she did. She’s in the living room doing dances again,” the oldest sister frowns softly. “I hope she’s okay.”
… Airi thought she was having a heart attack.
“… WHO IS IN THE LIVING ROOM WITH MY LIGHT STICKS?!”
The Azusawa household was hit twice as hard…
Kohane admired Count Pearl from her tank, smiling.
“Count Pearl’s shed is gorgeous… don’t you agree, dad?”
Her dad laughed, setting up another tank next to it.
“Of course, that snake is always gorgeous. I hope Cupcake sheds soon.”
Kohane tilted her head.
“… Cup…cake? D-Did we get a new snake?”
Kohane’s dad smiled.
“It was Miyumi’s idea. She really wanted a snake of her own.”
Kohane looked around the room in confusion.
“Miyumi…? Um… is that a family friend?-“
Kohane saw a small girl standing in the doorway with a smile. She gasped.
The Shiraishi household was only hit once, but it was a huge impact.
“FUCK! THAT GUY HACKING!”
An jumped out of her skin as she heard that yell from the house.
“… What the… was that a ghost…?!”
She nervously went in that direction and saw… a whole new door in the house. She gasped in shock, and then… shakily reached for the handle.
The Shinonome household was hit, too.
“No.”
“Stop being difficult, you know it’s time to get up.”
Akito poked Ena’s head to try and wake her up. She glared faintly.
“Damn brat, I said I’ll be ready in five…”
“You said that half an hour ago. Come on… you promised we’d go disc shopping. That was my oh-so-generous sister reward for tolerating that café trip.”
“Akitooo! It’s seven… I’m not getting up yet…”
“Please, onee-san? I think a trip would be great for us three!”
The two instantly turned to stare at the doorway to figure out where that voice came from.
The Otori household, despite having four children already, was now hit again. In a small yet hyper impact.
“Here, little animaaaal!~ come here! It’s cuddle tiiime! Cucucucuddle o’clock be upon you…”
Emu grinned excitedly, leaning over her plushie pile with her arms ready. She was under the impression that a wild animal somehow got in her room… and hid in the plushie pile. She lowered her arms in and latched onto what she found.
“Wahaha! Got you now, let’s see who you are! Wonderhoy wreeeeestleeeeee!!!”
Emu yanked it out, hands under its arms…
The Kusanagi household also got a surprise.
“What games are on sale… hm…”
Nene mumbled, scrolling through her game launcher’s library.
“SEKAI Blast… Voca.RPG…”
A notification at the corner of her screen caught her eye.
“… Oh, Bashira’s online.”
…
“… Wait. Who’s-“
Even the Asahina household.
“Mafuyu?”
“Hm? Yes, mother?”
“I ordered you in those medical textbooks you wanted.”
Mafuyu smiled warmly.
“Oh, thank you! I’ll start working through them as soon as I can.”
“Ah, that’s my girl.”
Her mother smiled at her, too.
“Could you check on your sister to make sure she’s doing her homework and not drawing those silly little anime drawings again?”
“… My what-“
And lastly, the Akiyama household.
Mizuki leaned against the bathroom counter, applying some lipgloss with a smile.
“Okay, that is a niiice shade~ Ena was totally right, this stuff works great.”
The door opened slightly.
“Mizu. Can I borrow your eyeliner sharpener? Mine broke.”
“Oh? Sure thing sis, you might need to wash it though-…”
… Mizuki looked up.
“Wait what-“
As four the other four households, one might wonder:
‘Did they not also get a weird change?’
Well, one got a call. One got a door slammed open. One was weird to begin with. And the other was a much more gentle door opening.
The Tenma household got a call.
“Tsukasa, Saki. You may need to sit down, this is important.” Their mother states. The two sit down on the opposite sofa in the living room.
“Hm?”
“Hm?”
“… Today I got a call from social workers. They have a child from a dangerous upbringing that needs a family. I offered to house her temporarily to see if it could work out. So… she’ll be coming tomorrow. Are you alright with this?”
Saki gasped in amazement. Tsukasa?
“… WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!”
The Aoyagi household already got a dose of weirdness long ago.
When Toya was a child, it already happened. He already had two brothers, but to randomly get a younger sister was still something wild to happen to him. Though.. what made less sense to him was how she turned out.
He heard that door slam open and already knew it meant she was home. Toya came away from his piano and sighed in dread, already feeling bad without even seeing her yet.
The other two? They don’t get doses of sudden siblings. They’ve been here forever.
The Kamishiro household is always weird, though.
“Reiko? Could you be the best sister in the world and-“
“Nooo thanks, ehe~ I-I’m on a risk taking ban…”
“… Pleaaaase? For me?”
Rui began to fake cry. She sighed.
“Okay… I’ll do it…”
The girl smiled, feeling so much care for her older brother even if she knew he was faking. She pressed the magic button… and flew upwards.
“RUIIII-I-I-i!—…”
“… Fufu~”
The Yoisaki home, though pained, was warmer today.
Knock… knock…
“Kanade…?”
Kanade’s headset nearly fell off as she heard the voice. So gentle, calm, hesitant… she instantly made her way to the front door and opened it.
“Ehe~ heya. Did you miss me? I’m finally back…”
Hikari offered a smile.
Kanade began to smile, too.
