Scarlet's Story

Summary:

Queen Scarlet is a villain. But she wasn't always, once she was a dragonet. This is her story.
(I started writing this before a guide to the dragon world came out, so let's just pretend that lore doesn't exist)

(This was originally posted on Wattpad, but I'm moving here so)

Chapter 1: Hatching Days

Chapter Text

Queen Firestorm had never been motherly. She had only had dragonets so she would have a few decent heirs, that much the kingdom deserved. Her existing daughters were disappointing, two years old and they were no more special than the peasant's dragonets, so hopefully the new batch would be an improvement.
On the night the eggs were due Queen Firestorm stopped by the hatchery so she could oversee it. It took far too much waiting for her liking but then she heard a crack, like the snapping or bird's bones. A little claw popped out, then a snout, then a tiny dragon tumbled out. A tiny, red thing, wailing pathetically. Queen Firestorm picked it up by the scruff of its neck, making the dragonet let out a squeal, and inspected it. "Hmm... you're a pretty little princess." She mused, "Yes, you'll do... Scarlet."

Five years later...

Hatching days were always good. Well, for Princess Scarlet they were. One day when she and Auburn mattered to Firestorm. One day she could relax. One day she got to be a part of the extravagant parties she loved to watch. One day she wished she could have forever. Scarlet spent an extra hour getting ready, picking out her favourite jewels, scrubbing her scales into mirrors, making her teeth shine white as snow and staring endlessly into mirrors until she was sure no flaws were left.

Auburn bounded into her room, just as Scarlet had finished choosing her earrings, and gave her a forceful, but sisterly hug, knocking her gold and topaz tiara to the ground. "Good morning!" "Auburn! Give a warning before you tackle a dragoness!" Scarlet laughs, returning the embrace. "Sorry Scarlet, but how can you expect me to be calm when it's our hatching day!" She exclaims "Well I've managed to stay perfectly collected." Scarlet replied with a roll of her eyes and a playful smile, picking her tiara off the ground "Alright then, let's go."

Scarlet and Auburn raced into the pavilion, for one day they could run and laugh and they only had themselves to impress.
