Work Text:

Peace and serenity have returned to Mariland. No more inhabitants driven mad by Mr. Heart’s sugary sweets, no more destruction or mess, that terrible time is over.
The sun shines brightly, and a gentle breeze blows, pleasantly warming the inhabitants’ fur, where peace now reigns. My Melody giggles with Kuromi, and everyone celebrates...
The same in the Cloud Kingdom: after a long, long time, peace has finally returned. The kingdom is rebuilding itself; an ancient and magical realm is rising once again.

The Cloud King has returned, his heart as strong and radiant as ever, and most importantly, Pistachio has his father back.

That’s all Pistachio can think about: he finally has his dad again. Dad is with him! Dad is alive! It’s the only thing that matters to Pistachio now, and to the Cloud King as well. Their reunion means everything. He suffered so much, watching his son lose himself and do bad things, but above all, watching him suffer. Nothing hurts a parent more than seeing their child in pain.

After bringing My Melody, Kuromi, and all her other friends under back to their land, leaving father and son alone, "Here...here, it's just us, we are back home" he murmurs softly as he cradles his son in his soft, cloudy arms.

The cloud king is in no hurry, nor does he intend to immediately return to his royal duties, nor to start building right away, nor does he even have the desire to reign again any time soon, to have citizens, not after his citizens have devoured and eaten him...literally.

inevitably, something has changed in the gentle king too. He will never be able to see his citizens the way he used to, nor appreciate them as much.
and so he simply takes his time to recover and comfort his son, sitting in the disheveled and slightly dusty room of what remains of their place in the clouds, tidying it up a bit absentmindedly before sitting down.

Pistachio finally break down, after all these years of suffering and loneliness, he bursts into tears in his father's soft arms, startling the cloud bear that frown "Oh, Pista..."

The little green kitten sobs, clinging to his father like a safeline, still fearing he might disappear at any moment.
"I'm sorry-" interrupts the cloud bear, "I'm so sorry- I-I didn't mean... I didn't mean any of that...! I didn't want..."
He sobs, his words breaking, feeling so much guilt but also shame, unable to lift his head to see his father's expression. How can he? Despite his relief, he knows everything he's done, and he's ashamed and regretful.

"Oh, pistacchio...my boy..." the cloud king tenderly caresses his son's head, scratching behind his ears, which are drooping in a clear sign of distress, only to lift his muzzle and force him to look at him.
But the tears in his son's green eyes made the cloud bear's heart ache.

"Daddy's not mad, not at you," his voice softens into a fatherly tone as he strokes his son's head, his large, soft hand completely enclosing his son's entire head, ruffling his soft green fur.

"You were lost...you did bad things" the gentle cloud bear can't hide his frown nor he can lie, a hint of sadness. "But you're not bad at heart, my boy. Even good people can get lost sometimes..."
Pistachio sobs, half relieved, half still ashamed, as he leans his muzzle deeper into his father's hand, so relieved to have these cuddles again and to hear his father's voice again . "I-I'm so sorry..."
He repeats, trembling.
"I missed you so much, Daddy...-"

The King clouds pulls his little son against his chest, his hug tightening.
"I'm here again now" he reassures gently.
"We'll rebuild everything together, like we already did once" he murmurs softly, running his large, soft hand over the small back of his son, who was no longer a child, but for the king, always would be.

"It's all right, Chio."
Pistachio hugs his father in response, feeling a lump in his throat, as he bury himself in the softness of his father's cloud-like chest, yet this only reminds him of all the times he held, hugged, and held his father's corpse.
A cold, unpleasant shiver runs through Pistachio at the memory, his green fur puffs up and his tail puffs out wide with fear.
Flashbacks of when he landed like this on his father's chest, yet he was dead, there was no response, only falling in his father chest-

Pistachio sighs shaky as he feels the bear's large, soft hand caressing his back, reminding him that his father is alive and present now. "Shh...there, there, pasticcino..."

The father murmurs softly, noticing his son's stress, his ruffled fur, and promptly runs his large, soft hands over it, tenderly smoothing down the fur and promptly stroking Pistachio's tail, smoothing it down too, as if that were enough to banish the fear and sadness Pistachio feels, but it does, a little at least.

"There, there..." the king also finally relaxes, finding comfort and calm after all these years, despite the still-destroyed state of his kingdom.
Now in this broken little room he has everything he needs, and Pistachio feels the same way.
