Chapter Text
Waking up after dying was interesting, to say the least. It was warm, comforting, and welcoming to think I would become the death of the universe. You heard me right - my predecessor had just passed on this responsibility without warning, and a half-hearted letter. Later on I met my little reapers, small, cute, and scary with their big scythes. Having reapers made my job so much easier. To think me a human made from simple flesh, and bones becoming so much more. After becoming Death, I'd seen the best and worst sides of humanity.
It’s much worse than I originally thought, as I’d block a lot of things out as a human. I truly wonder how Amosis loved such annoying creatures. Now, after so many years, humanity is like a show for me, to keep myself entertained. After all, immortality was more like a curse than a blessing - I learned the easy way that dying was nearly impossible. Especially when you're the embodiment of Death, currently carrying the souls of the dead to the other side and cradling them in my arms like children.
Souls are interesting, souls are beautiful - gold and blue hues, delicate, and souls are something I find delicious. The soul is like the human body, till I have them in my arms.
So small and warm were the kind ones, so kind and bright. The other type of souls was gray with silver, red, hot and stormy. I knew exactly where they belonged.
Honestly I was a bit surprised, how they were defined. The kind could kill, in self defense, could kill in cold blood to those who killed without mercy. But their good karma, helps them reach the heavens. The difference between good, and evil was obvious. The kind know what they’re doing is wrong, and feel remorse. While evil, they do it because they can, because none will know, because they have the power.
I loved and hated seeing the children's souls, dying so young. A pity, but I was happy to take them far away from whatever hell they were in. It was weird at first, but then I got used to it. When I first saw the afterlife, I was enchanted. It was such a peaceful place for gentle souls to rest surrounded by trees, grass and lots of fruit. The cities were beautiful, and pure made for souls of imagination.
The sky had wonderful stars and planets. The one that stands out the most is the large planet in the sky like a black hole. But also like earth, but with multiple rocks around it like saturn. While the underworld was different for each crime there was a floor, and punishment for those who sexually assaulted others they would have their dicks crushed by a hammer.
After getting aroused by an illusion of a woman, those who killed another would face being hunted, those who tormented others would live through the same torment hunted by monsters, those who lied caused death would be killed repeatedly in different ways, and killed the same way they did their victims. The main demons live in different places/ different sides of the seven rings.
It wasn't like the afterlife for pure souls. It was dark and mysterious, but also had a certain beauty to it. It had gothic architecture, but was still modern, most rings were gorgeous though I can say they each have their own unique charm. I couldn't help, but stare for a while, wishing to reach for the stars at times. Both worlds were beautiful, but humans experience it differently.
One thing I've come to realize about humans, was how weak they were to everything like ants. The only reason they were at the top was because they had the body, resistance and intelligence other than that they were pretty weak. Always struggling to survive, it was amusing to say the least, how many wars and blood they spilled and caused, yet viewed other animals as feral and greedy. When they themselves would betray another for the money, and power they would gain, kill for different reasons like revenge. Annoying, that’s what I thought of the human race, but hell did they make good entertainment.
Though once I was once flesh and bones, seeing the world from this perspective makes me believe humans are animals that should have died a long time ago. Their jealousy, greed, lust, pride, laziness, wrath and hunger they themselves created the seven sins and curses. but the sins ruled the seven layers of hell each for a specific type of humans. I’ve visited a few, each meeting was…eventful to say the least.
I really should have never even taken a peek at the lust ring, it’s worse than I even thought.
The curses on the other hand were different, when I first saw them it changed my view of the world. Since they were quite literally everywhere, the living couldn’t see them what a blessing they had. Curses were souls who still had regret, some form from too much negativity in one place. The lowest curses C&D, are trapped on earth because of their deep regret to stay. I could take them to the afterlife by force, but they cling onto a living loved one like annoying leeches.
Which connects their souls making them harder to take. Most were neutral and preferred to watch or follow a human of their choice or the ones they were born from like a baby chick. They have a grayish toned skin, no eye sockets as if moving in a controlled manner, but most of all they looked the same as the best moment in their lives. The B and A-grade curses/myths, curses with more deformed look like a ball of flesh merged together or myths and folklore monsters.
They held higher intelligence than the C & D grade. They were made due to an amount of humans believing in them, for example the amount of people that believe in a curse like bigfoot. He exists to those who can see curses mostly other undead or species other than humans.
Then at the top were the disasters S-grade or more, they were tall and looked down at the humans, causing disasters whenever they wanted worm-like bodies mashed together with large heads, skin like liquid most look like mythical creatures, some looked like dragons and others pure nightmare fuel. But I got used to it, I had to either way they could smell fear from miles away.
