Work Text:

Katherine Seresin and you met when you were roommates at University of Texas in Austin. You were premed ready to become a trauma surgeon and she was studying to become a teacher. Of course neither of your lives went exactly according to plan. You ended up enlisting after graduating to become a medic in the navy and Kitty ended up pivoting her career and applying to law school instead. Kitty and you, despite your changes, still moved as a team. Whenever you got deployed she’d keep your apartment and cat taken care of and whenever she got too busy with law school you would cook all your meals and keep the house clean. We had a perfect dynamic. That’s why when you got permanently stationed in San Diego for a new mission starting at top gun she came following your tail, getting hired at the biggest domestic abuse law firm in SoCal.
This was also the reason you had been sitting for 2 hours in a navy bar called the Hard Deck, waiting to meet Kitty’s naval aviator boyfriend, Bradley Bradshaw, and brother, Jake Seresin, who you’d be working with on Monday. But just to my luck my phone dinged with a text from Kitty at 2 hours on the dot.

You groaned in annoyance. So Kitty. You looked at your almost full drink, ready to flag the bartender, a nice woman named Penny, down, but you changed your mind and decided to finish your basically full drink instead. You looked around the bar at the pilots in here. You’d be patching some of them up starting tomorrow. This was the dream, or so you kept telling yourself. Maybe not to be stuck at top gun to one dagger squad, but still, the dream nonetheless. Snapping you out of your thoughts, a tall shadow appeared above you.
“Darling, I don't mean to be a creep, but I couldn’t help but notice that you have been all alone all night and you aint in uniform. Civilian?” A thick Texas accent spoke behind you, prompting me to spin in my bar stool. You were met with a very tall, very handsome pilot with a very bad look you knew all too well in his eyes.
“Not a civilian. Medic, starting Monday over at Top Gun. My roommate bailed on me last minute, I swear I’m not some loser sitting in a navy bar looking for pilots.” He laughed at the slight slur in your much too honest statement. You guess you had more to drink than I had thought.
“Some friend that is,” He paused, the flirty look in his eye replaced with something more earnest, concerned maybe, and then continued. “Did you drive yourself?”
You nodded your head in return and he turned to Penny to ask how many drinks you had. She mouthed a much larger number than you remembered ordering and suddenly the very handsome stranger was telling her to merge your tabs.
“Hey, hey you don’t gotta do all that, I’m not incoherent.” He laughed again and you drunkenly scowled at him.
“Listen, darling, you’re gonna be a medic at Top gun starting Monday, most likely for my team. I would like to make sure the woman keeping me alive ain’t on my bad side for leaving her drunk and stranded at the bar. So, let me get you home, okay? Or at least let me call you an uber”
You thought about it for a second, should you really be getting in the car with some stranger? You felt like those girls in horror movies that ask the killer who’s there instead of calling the cops. But you found yourself trusting him anyway, maybe because you had drunk one too many margaritas or maybe because he was sickeningly handsome.
He helped you stumble to his car and got you into the passenger seat. You had put your address in his phone already by the time you had realized that you hadn’t even asked the guy his name.
“So, what’s your name, hero hair?” You slurred out in the silence of the car.
“Hero hair? Really?” He paused, laughing at your dirty look, “Are you expecting my legal name or call sign, ma’am?”
“Did you just call me ma’am?” You half scoffed, half laughed at that. You had to be at least 4 years younger than this idiot. You wanted to slap that stupid smirk off his dumb hot face. “Callsign is fine. Anything to make me feel less like you're gonna murder me.”
“Hangman.” You snapped your neck to him. Did he just say hangman? You could swear that’s Kitty’s brother’s call sign. No. I’m being irrational. “Why’d you look at me like that?”
“That’s a stupid call sign, that’s all.” He shot a dirty look my way.
“What’s yours then, hotshot? Since you’re so quick to judge mine”
“I wasn’t judging. I was being honest. Truth hurts, Hangman.” He shot you another glare. And the silence sat for a second before you sputtered your callsign out. “It’s Halo.”
“Halo, huh?” You nodded, and his lips contorted into a big grin. Before he could make a remark you spoke up again.
“Sooo, is this how you usually spend your Saturday nights, pilot? Helping strange drunk girls get back to their apartments?” He laughed and shook his head.
“That would be a first actually, darlin” Your face contorted into one of confusion, which he picked up on and continued. “I just thought you might need some help, and you looked lonely. Plus, I did originally go up to you thinking that you were hot. Was gonna flirt but Penny waved me off.”

“You were gonna flirt with me?” You smiled, even drunk you still could pull a hot guy. Just when you were gonna say something else he pulled into your driveway. He hopped out and jogged around the car to open your door, Hangmam helped you all the way through your key fumbling mess of trying to open your apartment door and then headed back to his car.
You stumbled into the apartment, greeted by a very excited Kitty and a grinning man who you’re assuming is Bradley. She bounded toward you and gripped your wrist.
“Y/n, this is my Bradley, Bradley this is the love of my life, Y/n” Bradley shot her a look of annoyance but you could tell he was too far gone with Kitty for that look to be serious. He took you in a hug and Kitty realized how drunk you were immediately by the way you stumbled.
“You’re drunk, how’d you get home? Where’s your car?” She grabbed your face like a worried mom and you just laughed.
“I have to get it in the morning. One of the pilots at the bar drove me home, I think he might be the love of my life, by the way” You slurred out waving your hand in a swoosh motion.
<*•—•*>
The next day you woke up hungover with an Advil and water on your side table. You thanked the gods for giving you Kitty Seresin. She even wrote you a little note telling you that her and Bradley would be back at about 5pm and her brother would be coming over around the same time. You shot out of bed and grabbed your phone. It was already 4:32, you could clean up a little before they got to the apartment.
You spent your time speeding through the apartment, cleaning the living room and kitchen before moving on to your room. As fast as you had started you were done and settling down on the couch when you heard a loud knock at your door. Kitty never knocked so you assumed it was Bradley or her brother. When you got to the door, your self proclaimed future husband, Hangman, was standing there, lillys and red wine in hand.
“You stalking me or something, Hangman?” Just as he was about to open his mouth the elevator opened two doors down and Kitty and Bradley came out.
“Y/n! I see Jake beat us to the door!” You took a sentence to process her words before you realized what this meant. Oh shit. Hangman was Jake, this was Kitty’s very hot older brother. You and Hangman, Jake, shared a look that Kitty caught instantly. “Oh god, what did you do to her Jake?”
“I just gave her a ride home last night since you abandoned her at the Hard deck, dumbass” Kitty swatted at him for the rude remark. Then her eyes went wide and she snapped toward you. You had told her last night he was the love of your life. You had a crush on her brother. Kitty’s mouth turned into a very familiar menacing grin as she pulled her brother and Bradley through the doors of the apartment.
“Well, consider this your official meeting, Jake this is my gorgeous angel of a roommate, Y/n. Y/n this is my fuck ass brother, Jake” Kitty smirked at you and you blushed. You knew Kitty was revelling in this, you hadn’t liked someone in a long time.
“It’s nice to learn your first name, Halo” Jake sent you a knowing smirk and held the flowers out to you. “These are for you, Kitty said they were your favorites. The wine bottle if for both of you, I know how much wine Kitty drinks.”
Your face flushed. He got you flowers. You shook that thought out of your head. He didn’t even know who you were, he was just being nice to Kitty’s roommate, not being romantic.
“Thank you, Jake. They’re beautiful.” He gave you the perfect smile and your face went even redder. To save yourself from turning into a cherry you excused yourself into the kitchen to put the flowers in a vase. To your bad luck Kitty followed close behind.
“You like my brother” She whisper yelled at you, wearing her familiar mischievous grin.
“Shut up, I do not”
“You so do, you told me he was the love of your life last night” She giggled through her whispers and you shot a death glare her way.
“I was drunk, and I didn’t know he was your brother, and I don’t even know him.” She shot you a glare back that said something along the lines of idiot that doesn’t matter.
You sighed at her antics but couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on your face. You turned to tell Kitty to leave it when the boys walked in.
“Hangman and I were wondering what you ladies were thinking about food.” Bradley said loudly to cover up your guilty face. You mentally noted to thank him for being the best later.
“Actually, Y/n, I was thinking you could make that pasta you made last week! She’s a genius chef and since Jakey brought us wine we have drinks covered at home already!” You glared at your best friend but agreed anyway. You quickly went to your room to put shoes on and grab your purse so you could run to the store for some stuff for food. You made it all the way to the door before Kitty shouted a reminder at you.
“Y/n, where are you going? Didn’t you leave your car at the bar last night?” You had completely forgotten you had left your car. Shit, okay think, I could take Kitty’s car!
“Shit, yeah I did, can I take yours?” Kitty’s mischievous smirk returned to her freckled face.
“Well you have to pick your car up today, Y/n. Why don’t you and Jake just go to the store and then you can pick your car up with him on the way back?” You were gonna kill Kitty, like actually murder her. You shot her a tight lipped smile and Jake stood, agreeing immediately.

The two of you headed to his car and only the sound of low volume 80s rock could be heard in the background.

“So you’re Kitty’s roommate.” Jake drawled and you turned to look at him before bursting out into laughter. “Why’re you laughin darlin?”

“Because you’re an idiot.” You got out between loud breathless laughs. “Saving this awkward car ride one obvious statement at a time, huh, hangman?”

“I was trying to make conversation at least!” He rolled his eyes at you but he couldn’t help but smile at your giggles. He would bottle that sound if he could.

“Okay, Seresin,” Your laughter quieted and your voice turned earnest, “Thank you by the way, for taking me home last night. You didn’t have to. And I owe you for my tab, how much was it?”
He shot you a look that you were pretty sure meant something along the lines of get out of here.

“You ain’t paying me back, y/n. That’s my treat. Consider it an apology for trying to flirt with you.”

The two of you spent the rest of the ride to the grocery store talking about the dagger squad that you were to join on Monday. Jake told you random facts about Bob, Payback, Coyote, Pheonix, and Rooster. Him telling you that you’d get along with the group surprisingly eased anxiety that you hadn’t even realized you had.

The two of you headed into the store, hoping to get out quickly and head back to the apartment. You gave him half the list and you took the other part. When you made it back to him he was standing in the pasta aisle some girl at his side looking like he had just rejected her much too desperate advances.

“Jake I got most of the stuff, you ready?” The girl shot a glare over at you and you raised your eyebrows in surprise. She must have been deep in flirting with him.

“Yeah, darling, I’m good to go if you are.” The girl stepped between the two of you before he could step toward you to take your basket and you shot a look at him that you hoped he got the meaning of. It was something like if this bitch doesn’t move I’m gonna drag her through this aisle.

“Wait, sexy, aren’t you gonna give me your number?” The girl was practically purring at Jake as he rolled his eyes and stepped around her.

“Nah, I’m good.” He said sharply, taking the basket from your arm and heading to the register.

When the two of you had made it to the car you were slightly confused. The girl seemed like someone Jake would like. She was tall and blonde and hot. Super fit and very into him. Maybe he didn’t like desperation. Or maybe he liked you. No. You’re being delusional. You’ve known each other for a couple hours.

“So why didn’t you give Regina George your number back there?”

“She’s not my type” You raised your eyebrows at him. So he proves you wrong.

“Oh really? I guess I was assuming a hot tall blonde would be your type.” He just shook his head no in response.

“I don’t do girls like that, don’t matter what they look like.” He paused, his smile turned tight, “Ya know the type, girls who chase pilots just because they’re military too.”

You were confused as to how she would know for a second before realizing Jake knew this girl.

“Ohhh you know Barbie then?”

“Yeah, she’s a regular at the Hard Deck but she got a lot of complaints from the guys for being bitchy and creepy so they banned her.”

Jake turns into the Hard deck and you got your keys out of your purse and hopped out. Your baby pink vintage bronco looked like the soulmate to Jake’s sleek cherry red Tacoma. You were seconds away from making a joke about it before your phone buzzed in your pocket.

kitkat
did you bang my brother already!? did my plan work?

You rolled your eyes at her antics and sent her back a middle finger emoji before hopping in your car and rolling the window down. You told Jake to follow you back to the apartment and the two of you were on your way.

<*•—•*>
Jake and you scurried inside like two awkward teens. You sent him in the living room with three beers and then got to cooking in the kitchen. You were in the middle of taking roasted garlic out of the oven when you heard Jake’s voice from behind you.
“Need any help, darlin?” God, if he kept calling you that you were gonna combust. Stupid southern boy with his stupid pet names and his stupid hot accent.
“Uhhh I think I’m okay!” You said much too quickly and then realized you could actually use some help. “Wait, actually, if you really wanna help could you get me the kitchen aid from that cabinet?”
Jake pointed at the cabinet in question and you nodded yes before turning back to your garlic butter. He set the kitchen aid next to you, brushing past you to plug it in and set it up for you.
“Which attachment do you need?” You pointed to the pasta one and then he headed back to the living room to bring you a glass of the wine.
“You read my mind, thanks Seresin” Your cheeks flushed when your fingers touched his as he handed you the glass. This man was gonna be the death of you and you didn’t even know him that well yet.
After about an hour more of cooking the four of you were sat at the table eating ravioli and drinking red wine. It felt strangely natural with the three of them. Kitty had always been your platonic soulmate so it made sense to you that her boyfriend and you would be so similar, but Jake’s easiness made you wanna jump across the table and strangle him. Or kiss him. This was not the brother you had learned about. You were expecting the cocky player southern boy flirty fighter pilot with the attitude of Kitty but instead you got the shockingly handsome slightly mischievous Jake Seresin, polite southern boy who loved to make fun of Bradley.
Around 10 the boys decided it was time to wind down but both had drunk far too much to be driving so Jake opted for the guest room and Bradley went to Kitty’s. You went to bed anxious about starting work tomorrow and woke up hourly before getting fed up enough to get some water from the kitchen.
“What’re you doing up, sweetheart?” You jumped, letting out a small yelp, and turned to find Jake smirking, leaning on the door frame.
“I could ask you the same thing, hangman.”
“I asked you first.” You rolled your eyes at his middle school comeback but gave in anyways.
“I’m anxious about starting work tomorrow.”
“Why should you be anxious? You’re gonna be great. Everyone else should be anxious to make a good impression on you, Halo.” You smiled, looking up at him like he put the stars in the sky.
“Your turn, Jake, why're you up?” You changed the subject before he could ask anything else.
“I wake up at 2am every night, never really know why, I think it’s from when I used to do rodeo in Texas, we used to wake up super early to get on the road.” You shot him an amused glance and he rolled his eyes.
“So Mr cowboy used to do rodeos!”
“Yes, he used to.”
You laughed at his annoyed tone. You knew he was joking, but you enjoyed annoying him regardless. You shot a few more cowboy jokes at him before finishing your water and saying a quick goodnight to him and heading back to your room. You laid down with a sigh. You were in big trouble.

<*•—•*>

Your first month of work went by with the speed of light. Jake was very right about one thing, the team absolutely adored you and made it their mission to try to get you to come out with them one day during the week. That’s why here you stood in your room in the fifth outfit in the past ten minutes trying to decide what to wear to the Hard Deck. It shouldn’t be this hard, you had just worn jeans and a tank top last time. Why were you so stressed out about how you looked this time? Jake. And his stupid hot face and very crush worthy personality.
When you were at work he was a little more like the guy Kitty had described but you couldn’t help but still like it. You knew he hid behind the ego inflated appearance to impress his coworkers but you found yourself seeking him out at work anyway. He even brought you coffee three times this week. His fellow pilots had noticed this too. Hangman definitely had a crush, which wasn’t shocking. What was shocking to them was that you seemed to like the asshole back. Even when he shot you stupid pickup lines and the two of you made fun of each other like you hadn’t just met. It was sickeningly cute, the group had already started placing their bets.

“Y/n, are you ready to go? Bradley’s gonna be here to pick us up in 8 minutes….” Kitty walked into your room and trailed off when she saw the mess, slapping a hand over her mouth to stifle her giggles. “Did a tornado hit your room? And what the hell are you wearing?

“Shut up, Kitty and come help me! I don’t know what to wear.” You blushed when she shot a knowing look at you and disappeared into your closet. Within 40 seconds Kitty had picked out a tight fitting pair of flare jeans and some old navy shirt you had cut the neck out of.

Bradley was there soon after you were dressed and the three of you were on your way. When you got to the Hard Deck you pulled your phone out to check your lipstick. You felt like a dumbass checking your makeup for a guy you barely knew but you didn’t really care. The three of you walked in and were immediately greeted by loud cheers from the other pilots, happy that they got you out and got to meet Bradley’s famous girlfriend and Jake’s sister, Kitty.

“Halo!! You actually made it! I thought we would never get you out.” Phoenix said, pulling you into a hug. You scanned the group for Jake after saying your hellos. He was nowhere to be found. Phoenix caught your eye and you sent a guilty look her way when she quieted her voice. “He’s by the bar, go help him get the drinks”

Phoenix pushed you toward the bar making you stumble into Bob before rushing over to the bar to help Jake with the drinks. As soon as you saw him your jaw dropped. You’d seen him out of uniform before but nothing wuite like this. He was dressed in wrangler jeans, a tight white t-shirt, and his stupid brown cowboy hat. If it had been anyone else he would’ve looked normal, just a t-shirt and jeans, but something about Jake drove you crazy.

“Pretty girl, you gonna take a picture or help me with the drinks?” Jake drawled, smirking at your slack jaw face. You hadn’t even realized he had turned around.

You blushed at his remark and rushed to help him. The rest of the night you and your friends had way too much to drink. Except for Jake, who sat shockingly quiet to the side, sipping one beer when he had gotten there and then never having another drink. By midnight Jake was still completely sober and you were as drunk as the night you met him. Your friends had just started clearing out, Kitty and Bradley bailed first, after you’d told them you’d go home with one of the others, which one you can’t remember. Within 10 minutes you and Jake were the last ones in the Hard Deck. You stumbled over to him and asked him for a ride home. You made it all the way into his truck before saying something you’d probably regret in the morning.

“Sooooooooooo, hangmannnnnn,” You slurred out to him in the quiet ride, “You look really super handsome tonight, you know that?”

“Do I look really super handsome, Halo?” You saw his stupid smirk and ignored it, continuing on your drunken flirting despite how amusing he found this.

“Yes. You look like the most handsomest of all the cowboys of all the handsome cowboys in the worlddddddd. SAY IT. Say you're the most handsome cowboyyy!” Jake laughed at you, he wished he could keep your cute drunk ass in that passenger seat for the rest of his life.

“Alright, pretty girl, I am the handsomest cowboy.” Drunk giggles came from your side of the car for the rest of the drive back to your apartment until you passed out. Jake parked his car on the street and swung you over his shoulder, carrying you all the way up to your apartment before realizing that Kitty was at Bradleys and you didn’t have your keys on you.

Jake drove the two of you instead to his house and just as he put you into bed he felt a soft pull on his jacket. He looked back to see you sleepily glancing at him.

“Can I borrow a shirt?” You whispered out to him, still drunk and much more timid than your cowboy remarks from before. Jake smiled at you and grabbed one of his old rodeo t shirts out of his drawer. Making sure you didn’t need anything else he headed out to the couch. Jake didn’t know exactly when it happened but he was far gone. He had skipped the falling and has been in love with you since your first encounter at the hard deck. He just wished he could get the courage to tell you.

<*•—•*>

Jake pinched himself. He thought for sure he was dreaming. There was no way the girl of his dreams was currently in his kitchen making two cups of coffee dressed in nothing but his shirt that was much too big on her. He leaned on the door frame, startling you into snapping around toward him.
“Darling, what are you doing?” His voice was still sleepy from waking up which made you swoon.
“Making coffee for you.” You paused for a second, trying to figure out how to word your thoughts. “Thanks for taking me home by the way. I realize it was probably not your plan to have to give your bed to my drunk ass..”
“I’d give my bed to your drunk ass anytime, Halo.” You smiled in return, not trusting your voice and handed him his coffee.
The two of you spent the day on his back porch looking out at the beach and talking about the most random things. You loved this side of Jake. He wasn’t Hangman in moments like this, he was just Jake. And you weren’t Halo, you were just Y/n.
“What do you think about having a party here tonight?” You looked over at Jake, trying to see if he was really asking you about having a party at his house. “I mean it’s about to be a whole month of you working with us, Halo, I think it could be a nice little get together.”
“Jake, we don't need to have a one month party. I'd be embarrassed.”
“The team would love it,” Jake shot you his most mischievous smirk. “And I find it funny when you get embarrassed.”
Before you could even think about smacking Jake’s phone out of his hand he was already sending out a group message to the team about your one month party at his place.

<*•—•*>

After going home and changing into a mini dress, by orders of both Natasha and Kitty, you headed to the store with Bradley and Kitty to get drinks.

“Soo, you didn’t come home last night.” Kitty spoke once Bradley had headed in in front of you guys.

“How do you know that? You weren’t home” You shot her a side eye, just trying to stop her from asking the question you didn’t really want to talk about.

“Dumbass we have a ring doorbell, I have video of my brother and you leaving.” You mentally scolded yourself for buying that stupid fucking doorbell.

“Nothing happened,” Even if you wish it did. “He let me sleepover because y'all weren't home and I forgot my keys, that's all.”

“And now he’s hosting a party in your honor?” Kitty raised an eyebrow at you, pointing a tequila bottle in your direction. “How domestic of you.”

You pushed the cart into Kitty and then ran away to find Bradley to save you from the wrath of his vengeful girlfriend. The three of you looked highly suspicious buying 4 packs of beer, 2 bottles of tequila, and a bottle of scotch but you made it to Jake’s regardless.

In the car you fixed your makeup and hair about 100 times before Kitty dragged you out to the house that you had been at a couple hours earlier. The door was unlocked when you got there and it seemed as if you 3 were the last to arrive. Natasha immediately b-lined for you and Kitty when you got there and pulled you to the side to tell you how good your dress looked and how hot you looked. You could tell Kitty had texted her that you were nervous but you brushed it off anyways. Jake sat in the middle of Coyote and Bob on the couch telling some stupid joke about him being the best pilot but he stopped during the punchline when his eyes caught sight of you. Coyote punched his arm after his stare lingered a second too long and he finished his dumbass joke and stood to greet you, Kitty, and Rooster. He took the bags of alcohol from you and Rooster and pulled you toward the kitchen to help him with the drinks.

“You look good.” Jake said matter of factly, as if it was the easiest thing he had said all day.

“Yeah?” You cursed at yourself for sounding so dumb. Yeah? Who says Yeah?

“Yes. But you always look good.” You opened your mouth to respond but Jake beat you to it. “So I was thinking we could order some pizzas, anything specific you want?”

You nodded your head no, still flustered from his flirty remark and headed back to the living room to ask everyone else if they had any order requests. The party went by with a slow start, a few later stragglers coming in and pizza arriving pretty soon after. After people started to get a little tipsy Kitty decided it was time for a drinking game and by the pure look of determination in her and Natasha’s eyes you knew it was gonna be targeted at you.

“Guys we should never have I ever!” Kitty slurred loudly to your group, eliciting cheers from the pilots and a glare from you. “I think everyone knows the rules, you put your finger down and drink if you’ve done it. Phoenix, you start!!!”

“Never have I ever had a crush on a coworker!” Natasha started off heavy, two could play that game. You, Jake, Bob, and Coyote all drank, Kitty shooting you a pointed look when Jake raised his cup to his lips. “Kitty, your turn”

“Never have I ever had a sleepover with a coworker” The two of them were having much too much fun with this game. You rolled your eyes as you and Jake were the only ones to take drinks, earning hoots and giggles around the circle.

The game went on for 10 more minutes, becoming more and more pointed until you had finished 3 red solo cups of tequila and were well on your way to being drunk. You excused yourself from the circle and took the opportunity to get some water. Jake appeared in the kitchen with you seconds later looking like he was itching to ask you a question.

“What’s that look for, Jake?” You asked just when he was about to turn to walk back into the living room.

“Who do you have a crush on?” Jake’s voice was sharp, as if he didn’t already know he answer which you thought after all the stupid questions from Kitty and Natasha would be impossible.

“Who do you think I have a crush on?” You deflected, not missing the way his mouth threatened to turn into a smile. He moved toward your position on the counter, suddenly much closer than before.

“I dunno, maybe Bobby, seems like you two get along pretty well.” You raised your eyebrows at him, prompting him to laugh at his own guess.
“Guess again, bagman.”

“Coyote?” You made a loud wrong answer sound and took a step closer to him, hoping that the flirty tension you felt wasn’t just tequila driven madness.

“Tell me who it is, darlin.” You looked up at him, suddenly all worries had disappeared thanks to the liquid luck you had been downing.

“It’s more than a crush,” You paused, letting out a little drunk giggle, “And I’d say its more like I'm in love with the most handsome cowboy in the world.”

Within seconds of the words leaving your mouth Jake was in front of you, hands on your face, asking for permission to kiss you. Instead of waiting you stood on your tip toes and pulled his shirt collar down to you, pulling him into a kiss you had been wanting for weeks. When the two of you pulled apart you were completely breathless until a dark thought struck your head.

“Tell me that wasn’t because you're drunk, Seresin.” You pleaded almost whispering, looking away from Hangman’s burning stare.

“No, not because I’m drunk,” Jake grabbed your chin, pointing your face back up to him, “You ever thought maybe all that flirting and taking care of you might mean I really did fall for you, darlin?”

You pressed your lips back on to his and for a minute the world was quiet, nothing existed except for you and Jake. Well, until you heart a glass drop from the side of you.

“COYOTE! BOB! THEY’RE KISSING, THEY’RE KISSING IN THE KITCHEN, YOU OWE ME 30 DOLLARS.” You heard Rooster shout from the doorway, you tried to feign anger at your friends but you couldn’t help but giggle. You were very glad you decided to move to San Diego.

Notes:

this is so bad guys and much too long. more Jake fics to come soon that will be MUCH better.
