Work Text:
There was a buzzing coming from Noelle's pocket.
She dug around in it for a second before pulling out her phone, the words ‘Incoming Call’ flashing on its screen. She pressed accept after a second of consideration.
The other person immediately began speaking, one with a voice that Noelle would have recognized immediately (even if she hadn't seen who was calling, despite the fact she was somewhat confused as to why).
“Hello Noelle Honey How Are You Today?”
“Um- hi, Queyn!” Noelle responded. “I'm good?”
“That Is Excellent To Hear,” Queyn said. Noelle could hear lots of activity going on in the background. Lots of squelch noises too. “I Would Like To Ask If You Are Free For Some Work Right Now?”
Noelle paused to think. She didn't have anything scheduled for today, right? It wasn't a school day, her extracurriculars weren’t on, and she hadn't made any plans with anyone.
“Yes, I'm free.”
“Excellent,” Queyn said. "I Got An: Urgent Call And Require Someone To Watch Lancer And Get Him To Sleep Later But If You Don't Want To I Can Find Someone Else (No Problem Of Course) It Is Up To You.”
“Oh- of course I'd love to watch Lancer for a while! When would I need to be there?” Noelle asked, grabbing a piece of paper to write the details down on.
“I Need To Leave In About Two Hours Does That Work With You?”
“Yeah! I can get there by then, I'm sure.” Traffic normally wasn't too bad, and Queyn lived only about forty minutes away, so Noelle should have plenty of time to get there if she left soon. She made a mental note to text Dess before she left to explain where she'd gone.
“Excellent Thank You Noelle You Will Be Most Fairly Compensated For Your Time (Don't Try To Argue I Insist),” Queyn said (Noelle always debated this, even if it always ended in failure).
As usual, Noelle protested. “No, I'm really happy to do it for free! I love hanging out with Lancer!”
“Nonsene I Just Said Not To Argue You Will Be Well Compensated For Your Time Thank You Again See You In A Few Hours Bye!” Queyn ended the call just as she finished speaking, preventing further debating. An effective method, Noelle had to admit. If only she could end all her arguments like that...
Noelle slipped her phone back into her pocket, only to feel buzz again a second later.
Queyn was calling again.
Noelle accepted it, and Queyn's voice once again filled the otherwise-quiet house.
“Oh By The Way Noelle Sweetie I Forgot To Mention That It Would Be Totally Fine If You Brought A Friend (I Understand That Babysitting Can Be Boring).”
“Oh- really?” Noelle asked.
“Of Course Sweetie Pea,” Queyn said. “Maybe That Suzy Girl You Talk About A Lot? You Seem To Really Like Her From What You Say.”
Noelle flushed slightly at Queyn's words.
“But I Don't Care Who You Want To Bring (If Anyone) After All It's Your Choice Also I Know You Like Horror Movies Feel Free To Watch Some Lancer Sleeps Like A Very Adorable And Round Pile Of Rocks Okay Bye!”
Queyn hung up again.
Noelle finished writing down the details, then hurried to text Suzy and pick out some of her favourite movies from the family collection.
Getting to hang out with Lancer followed by a movie night with Suzy was definitely not a bad way to spend a day.
