Work Text:
The house was awfully quiet that evening. You had just come back from your draining shift, tired, in need of a shower, and the only thing you wanted to do was collapse in your bed after a long, hot shower.
You hadn’t eaten anything since lunch. You weren’t too hungry that day; you were more occupied with everything else. You decided to head to the kitchen, sure of finding Beel, and some leftovers.
Strangely though, he wasn’t there. Huh, weird, you thought, he could always be found in the kitchen after dinner time. Whatever. You could enjoy something light in silence, just as you wished.
After eating and washing the dishes, you realised you still hadn’t bumped into anyone. Jesus, eight people - including you - lived in the house, and yet no one walked past the kitchen? Had something happened?
You got up with the intention of finding someone. You tried knocking on Levi’s door, it being the first one you could think of, also because his room was significantly closer than anyone else’s.
He didn’t answer. Weird. He’d usually at least ask the password and then quietly open, but no, this time it was just absolutely nothing. What did happen though, was the ringing of your D.D.D..
A message from Levi.
“- WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUTSIDE?? YOU SHOULD BE HIDING IN YOUR ROOM RIGHT NOW!!!”
“- …what”
You replied, confused. What was he on about?
“- for fuck’s sake. Satan is PISSED. Satan pissed = RUN FOR YOUR SAFETY. Oh lord, he looked even madder than usual. THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, NO DRILLS!!!!”
You didn’t bother answering.
You hated when Satan got mad. Yeah, sure, it was literally his curse. He wasn’t called “Avatar of Wrath” for nothing. But you weren’t scared of him. So you started searching.
You looked everywhere you thought he’d be: library, his room, planetarium, garden..but he was nowhere to be found. You decided to try the roof, being the last place you thought of, and also because you wanted to get some fresh air.
Goddamn it. You just wanted to sleep, and yet you found yourself in an another weird situation. The brothers lived in a literal mansion, couldn’t they afford group therapy?
As you were grumbling to yourself, you heard a sniffle. Turning to the side, here, you saw him sitting, head on his knees.
Illuminated by the moon, his soft, blonde locks shone. His trembling form looked almost innocent, scared, even. Something you had rarely seen on the demon before.
You quietly approached, sitting beside him on the floor without saying a word. You let the silence stretch up for a while, before softly speaking up.
“Rought day?”
You gently asked, still making no move to touch him.
“…You could say that.” He sniffled, voice broken. He looked like a soggy puppy.
You hummed, letting your head rest on the wall for a bit.
“I’m here to listen.”
“Right.” He replied, voice dry and almost bitter.
“You know you’re supposed to run away from me, don’t you?” He went on, now looking up. His eyes were red, wide and absolutely frightening…but his trembling and closed off demeanour made you understand how he was really feeling.
“Pfft.” That was all that came out of you.
“Don’t be stupid. We all have our no days. Come on…” You carefully said, trying to reassure him.
“It’s just..” He started, only for his eyes to get watery all of a sudden.
Your own eyes widened, and you gently wrapped your arms around him, letting him quietly sniffle on your shoulder.
“Fuck…I’m-..don’t look at me, I feel so pathetic..”
“Satan, it’s okay.” You whispered. “Let it out for now. You can tell me later, if you want.”
And so he did. He cried for what felt like eternity. At first, you were kind of annoyed. That whole situation was obstructing your plans. But as time went on, his cries became comforting. They made you understand, then more than anything, how he was like.
You hadn’t been in the Devildom for long, and certainly didn’t spend as much time as you would’ve liked with Satan, but that night you two breathed in unison, and shared something: deep hurt.
