Work Text:
Killer awoke the floor of Cross's empty bedroom, head pounding from the night before, wondering what was going on and where Cross was. This was his room after all...was it not?
After pushing himself up off the floor, and conveniently not noticing Cross's dust covered jacket, he stretched and left the room to begin searching for his boyfriend, the memory of his death already blocked out of his mind.

He sighed as he entered the kitchen. He'd searched the whole castle (except for the kitchen of course) and hadn't found Cross anywhere. He'd checked the training grounds, the dungeons, even the roof where he and Cross used to sneak out to watch the stars and the clouds.
It was like he was just...gone.
After scanning the kitchen for any sign of Cross, with no luck, his eyes landed on Horror, who was cooking something on the stove. Horror was always the designated cook, but Cross had been the designated baker as no one else could even touch the stove without burning the place down.
Killer, hoping Horror had seen Cross, walked to the taller's side. "Heya Horror. Have you seen Crossy this morning? I can't find him anywhere." Killer asked, not noticing the solemn expression on Horror's face.
He was about to speak up and ask why Horror wasn't as talkative as usual (like he ever was) but paused when he saw what Horror was cooking. Eggs.
Cross hated eggs.
Killer's expression soured as he spoke up. "What the hell, Horror. You know Cross hates eggs." Horror didn't respond. He only looked over at Killer with a heartbroken expression before he went back to cooking, ignoring Killer's continuing complaints about how he knew Cross hated eggs and why was he making them if he knew this.

Once breakfast was made and the table was set, Killer looked out at all the familiar faces with expectancy, but frowned when he noticed Cross's chair was empty. Worse than that, there wasn't even a place setting for him.
"Where's Cross? Why didn't you set his place?" He asked, voice full of confusion as he looked out at the table of sorrowful expressions.
When he didn't get an answer, he mumbled "أيا كان" beneath his breath as he began eating, not noticing Dust's resentful glare directed towards him.

Killer went about the rest of the day confused and hurt. He was confused as he couldn't find Cross and was hurt as no one would even speak about him. It was like they were all playing a cruel prank on just him.
Why is no one talking about him? He kept wondering as he wandered around the castle, searching rooms he'd already searched dozens of times that day.
No one had the heart to tell him.
It wasn't until Killer had gone to check Cross's room for the first time that day and found his dust-covered hoodie lying on the floor where he'd woken up, that he remembered what happened...
His reaction was sudden as he remembered everything. He stumbled, legs shaking like jelly, and collapsed to the floor, holding a hand over his mouth.
He was gonna be sick
Tears welled up in his eyes as the pain of the night before hit him like a freight train. His sobs of anguish could be heard from each and every corner of the castle. Having to listen to him sob as he remembered everything only caused everyone else more pain.
But all dust felt was rage. With each sob he heard, he became angrier and angrier, clenching his fists tighter and tighter until the glass in his hand shattered.
He would make Killer pay for not saving Cross.
