Ding!
“I heard the next professor is absent at least once every week, you think it's our lucky day?”
Ding!
“Unfortunately, i—” Ding! “—saw him in the hallways when I got water earlier.”
“Ugh..” Student A slumped in her lecture hall seat, almost falling to the floor. Student B scoffs.
Ding, Ding!
“On the bright side, Apparently he doesn't care if you're on your phone as long as it's not in plain-”
Ding, ding, ding-!
“Okay man,” Student B turns to the girl sitting cross-legged in the row behind them, “Are you fighting people online again? At least set your phone on silent mode.”
“Oh- Uh.” She straightened up from her slouch, phone held by both hands as she glanced at it and back at the two girls staring at her. “No I'm not.”
“Yes you are.” Student A points at her. “you always have that focused expression on your face when you're fighting people on twitter. Who is it?”
“I think it's that one guy.” Student B chimes in, whispering loud enough for both the other girls to hear. “Shinji? Whenever I peek at her phone. Fujoso is talking with or about him.”
“not shinji..” Fujoso frowned, then shook her head frantically. “But that doesn't mean it's that person! I'm serious!”
“...”
Student A stared at Fujoso. She looks away, only to meet eyes with Student B. They deadpan.
“Okay fine. It's her.”
“I knew it!” Student A laughs. “You guys should kiss and make up, you're too grown to be fighting on twitter.”
“Go away.” Fujoso sighs, glancing back at her phone.
A new notification popped up .
@chiinjis replied : I knew i was wrong 2 hours ago but ur still replying. In love with me I swear
“Oh my god.” She can only laugh and put her phone down.
“Deep breaths.”
“Just give it up. Here is your self soothing soobin.” Student A reaches out to pat her shoulder after placing a single photocard of her favorite idol on her desk.
She appreciates it, but it just pissed her off more. “Whatever.. I think I'm gonna skip this class. I've been on edge this whole day, I need a walk..”
Student B shrugs, Student A nods and adds, “I think I'm gonna leave too. I really don't feel like it.”
“Are you two leaving me here?? All alone?? But myself??”
“You can leave too?”
“I have too many absences!” Student B groans.
The two's chatter melts into the background as Fujoso glances at her phone again..
No. She shoves it in her pocket. I'm not entertaining this nonsense.
It takes less than a minute for her to pack her things and leave, not paying attention to her two friends still holding each other in class by mindless chatter.
Woke up late, had to skip breakfast, the subway was cramped, had to stand the whole ride, a bastard bumped into her and didn't even say sorry.
Then she had a 2 hour long twitter thread argument with this person that keeps reappearing on her timeline.
“I will protect my peace..” she mutters under her breath.
– where are u
→ Class, why
Fujoso frowns, and types a message quickly as she stands under the roof of a college building, sheltering herself from the rain.
— didn't you say u were leaving?
→ Student A held me up until the prof came TT are you waiting for me??
Ugh.
— I was gonna ask if u wanted to go to to HeyCat
→ The new kitty cafe? We can go another day if you want!! Idt i can leave in his face now tho apparently he deducts points if you do that
— Man
She sighs and shuts off her phone, placing it in her front jacket pocket and raising her head.
A deep grey color stretched across the sky, she can't see the end of it.
Means the rain isn't gonna end any time soon.
Looking around, she sees other students also giving up and using whatever they had as a shield, some just rawdogging it ..
Should I stay somewhere until the rain ends? She considers, but if im gonna be alone anyways..
She'd rather doomscroll for hours on her comfortable twin bed rather than wait an hour or two on some wooden chair that'd only hurt her ass.
That decides it.
She takes a deep breath, places the hoodie of her jacket over her head, and makes a run for it.
Surprisingly, the subway was significantly less crowded than she was used to, mostly because most people are still working or in classes by now.
It's nice though.. She takes a deep breath, and relaxes into her seat.
“The next stop is—”
She doesn't move as the doors open and close once again, not her stop.
She continues dozing off.
She doesn't notice at first.
Until she feels body heat right besides her, making her half lidded eyes snap open, and her neck twisted to stare..
.. at a woman, seemingly her age, who decided to sit exactly beside Fujoso.
“...” She half glares incredulously at the person with earbuds plugged in, sitting right beside her when there were 4 other empty seats in this section alone.
She swallows her grief, being in the corner seat meant she can't just scoot away a little bit..
Didn't know people like this were real. I need to kill myself..
Whatever.
I'm hungry.
Ding!
She glances at her phone, buzzing again.. and decides to pass the time watching tiktoks or something. Maybe opening ao3—
@Chiinjis mentioned you in a reply : no reply LOL I think she really does have a crush on me wdyt chat
Fujoso scowls, forgetting the talk about protecting her peace that she had 30 minutes ago, and starts typing furiously.
@Fujosoob replied : are u seriously still doing this
Vrrr!
She pauses, replied already? But her phone isn't on vibrate mode?
Ah, she glances beside her, it's just this girl..
The woman sitting besides her laughs, typing away. Privacy screens are crazy, I can't see a thing.
Whatever.
Embarrassing.. this asshole chiinjis was really driving her crazy.. should she just block them?
Ding!
@Chiinjis replied : doing what??
She frowns, typing faster.
Vrrrt!
@Fujosoob replied : I know this is ragebait why am I still angry
Ding!
@Chiinjis replied : bleep :p ur faves tanked
Vrrt!
@Fujosoob replied : you are a child
Ding!
Vrrt!
Ding!
Vrrt
Ding!
….
“...”
“...”
Fujoso blankly stares at the floor, then turns to the woman beside her with trembling pupils.
Slowly, she types again.
Vrrt!
@Fujosoob replied : hey. R u on the subway rn
She keeps her eye fixed on the ginger-haired girl, who plays with a strand of her hair before freezing, her smile drops.
And under her breath, she whispered. “What the fuck..” but before she finishes her words, she stops staring at her phone.
She raises her head, staring forward first, before she slowly turns and meets eyes with Fujoso.
She takes out one of her earbuds.
Fujoso's mouth is slightly agape, eyes wide, and skin a shade paler..
.. as she makes eye contact with The Chiinjis, the person she has met over and over again and fought every time.. on twitter dot com.
“———? ——.”
“—!——-!”
“—————.”
Fujoso sat wordlessly on a bench in one of the parks in her college.
“———?”
Her two friends on her left were chatting for about an hour now, the three waiting in between their classes under the shade of the trees.
“Right?”
“...” The soda she cupped in her hands was lukewarm, opened yet still full.
Her gaze was unfocused, staring forward yet not at anything in particular— until two fingers started snapping in front of her face.
“Hey? Helloooo?”
She frowned. “What?”
Student A exchanges a glance with Student B, seemingly communicating their shared confusion, before they stare back at her.
“Genuinely, what's wrong with you these days? Did you finally get doxxed by a b*nny?”
“What?” She looks equally confused, then sighs and rolls her eyes. “I did not get doxxed? why the hell would you think that??”
“Well I didn’t wanna pry since you seemed to be having a bad week—”
“I wanted to pry.”
“I know, Student B.”
“Really bad.”
“I know.” Student A sighs, pushing Student B back and focusing on Fujoso. “you’ve been too.. off, though. You know? you can tell us if something is bothering you.”
Fujoso tightens her grip on her soda…. And can feel heat rising up to her face as she remembers the most awkwardly embarrassing moment of her life.
“What the fuck?” the person—probably chiinjis?— stares at her phone as visible goosebumps appear on their skin.
She—possibly chiinjis??— looked around one moment, and at her the second.
Fujoso…..
.. doesn’t know what to do?!
‘What the fuck?’ She gulps, ‘what the fuck? What the fuck?? What the fuck?!’
How is this real? How is this happening?? What are the odds????
Really, what are the odds?! 1 in 7 billion? That's so many zeroes! So many zeroes!!!!
She can see the person's—very likely to be chiinjis???— fingers move, pressing a single button of their phone.
Ding!
She glances down at her own.
An unfinished reply, a simple “w”.
When she looks up, she realizes that the person —oh my god, it's chiinjis.— was also looking at her phone.
‘What do I do.’
She takes a deep breath, ‘should I say something first? No, what do I even say?
It's not like this is an online friend. You can't just say ‘oh my goodness! Small world ! What a coincidence!’
We have insulted each other in ways that cannot be said outloud.
‘I have stayed up at night shit talking this woman to my friends, ranting about how she must be a kid with nothing to do or a deranged unemployed incel!’
And it seems like… the person —who is most definitely without a doubt chiinjis— shared the same sentiment, seeming flabbergasted.
How.. how do I get out of..
“The next stop is — station.”
Fujoso sharply gets off of her seat.
“That's my stop.”
No it wasn't.
She is not sure why she even said that.
But she pushed through the crowds and got off the subway without looking back— not even once.
I haven't seen her again since then….
She takes a deep breath, taking a very long gulp of her soda, staring at the sky, then at her friends.
“You will not believe what happened to me 3 days ago.”
Not a single detail was spared as Fujoso finally spilled everything that has been driving her crazy for the past few days.
