“Jaxon, I challenge you to a battle!”
Jaxon looked up from his red-bean and cream sushi Mr. Taisho had made him to see Robin pointing at him, a fire in his eyes. He tilted his head, “What brought this on? Aren’t we supposed to be taking a break before the title match?”
Robin seemed to be caught off guard by the question, stumbling over his words, “U-uh w-well-”
“I gave him permission.” Multi appeared from behind Robin, smiling in a way she usually did when she had an idea for the Team Persona channel…something that usually involved him not blading. She continued, “We have a little bet going on right now and it involves you two battling.”
Jaxon was confused, but shrugged, “Well I’m not gonna say no to a battle. Let’s do this Robin.”
Robin breathed what looked like a sigh of relief before nodding and leading the way downstairs to where the Komaba Sushi beystadium was. While he didn’t understand why battling him had become part of Robin and Multi’s bet, he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth if it meant he got to battle with Buster Dran again. Man he loved blading with it.
They reached the beystadium in no time at all, Robin taking position on one side of the stadium, Jaxon taking the spot across from him and Multi standing in the center to be the referee. Multi looked between the two of them, “This will be a single battle. Whoever’s the last one standing wins the battle. You two got it?”
Robin nodded and Jaxon gave her a thumbs up, “All good over here. Can I have Buster Dran now?”
Multi sighed, “Yes.” She pulled the bey out of her pocket before handing it over.
Jaxon squealed and rubbed his bey against his face, “Ah I missed you partner. Life just isn’t worth living if I don’t have a bey on me.”
Robin chuckled, “You really do love blading don’t you?”
“Duh! It’s the best thing in the world next to sushi. Now, let’s do this!”
Both of them held their launchers out, Jaxon noticing the three pronged blade of Hammer Incendio. Multi held her hand out, “Set!”
Jaxon called out, “Three!”
Robin responded, “Two!”
Both of them cried out, “One!”
“Let it rip!”
Jaxon pulled on the ripcord as hard as he could, letting Buster Dran fly from his launcher onto the stadium, Robin’s Hammer Incendio landing opposite from it. Both beys began to glide on the stadium floor, Jaxon taking a second to relish the feeling of getting to battle.
Robin swiped his hand through the air, “We’re going all out from the start. Hammer Incendio!” At his command Hammer Incendio began to charge towards Buster Dran. Jaxon smiled as the two beys clashed. Getting to battle at all was a treat, but getting to battle Robin? Way more fun since the Incendio blader always gave one hundred and ten percent into every battle. It made Jaxon want to go all out too.
Jaxon thrust out a hand, “You won’t beat us that easily. Come on, Buster Dran!” Buster Dran pulled back from the clash before circling around and hitting Hammer Incendio with the point of its blade, pushing the red and orange bey backwards. Jaxon grinned, “Don’t let up!”
Robin grit his teeth before swiping his hand through the air again, “We won’t lose. Counter attack!” Hammer Incendio tilted forward, trying to deflect the point of the blade and launch an attack at Buster Dran’s ratchet. To Jaxon’s glee, the counter attack was successful, sending Buster Dran flying.
Robin cried out in victory, “There we go. Come on Hammer Incendio, we’ve got this.” Hammer Incendio charged forward as Buster Dran landed on the stadium floor, Jaxon not having enough time to counter attack, “Hammer…Smash!” Jaxon felt his heart racing as Hammer Incendio’s blades made direct contact with Buster Dran and sent it flying backwards…right where Jaxon wanted it to go.
Jaxon pumped his fists, “Oh man this battle is awesome! When did you get so strong Robin?”
Robin grinned, “All my training has helped me become this strong. Just you wait Jaxon, me and Hammer Incendio are gonna win this.”
Jaxon felt like jumping in place with how excited he was, “Well let’s see if you can handle this!” At his command Buster Dran let itself fly backwards even further…right into the rail. The gears on Buster Dran began to engage with the rail and the bey began to fly through the stadium. Jaxon’s eyes glinted in the light, “Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! I’m gonna show you something…X-traordinary!”
Robin took a defensive stance, Hammer Incendio taking position in the center of the stadium, “Bring it on Jaxon!”
Jaxon brought his arms up to form his signature X as Buster Dran neared the end of the rail, “Xtreme Dash: Buster!” Buster Dran flew off of the rail, heading straight for Hammer Incendio.
Robin grinned, “This is what we’ve been waiting for. Go now! Hammer Incendio!” To Jaxon’s surprise Hammer Incendio began to charge forward, clearly intending to meet Buster Dran before it could reach the center of the stadium. When the two beys clashed, to Jaxon’s surprise, Hammer Incendio didn’t go flying, but was able to force the two beys into a stalemate, both of them flying into different areas of the stadium.
Jaxon’s eyes widened, “How did you do that?”
Robin chuckled, “Buster Dran is an incredibly strong bey with a killer Xtreme Dash, but all of that power is put into the point of the blade. So by making contact with the side or the back during your dash…I can weaken the overall power!”
Jaxon couldn’t hold back the grin that sprouted on his face, “Amazing…that’s amazing Robin! You’re even stronger than I thought!”
Robin’s smile made his heart pound even faster than it already was, “And now to finish this! Go! Hammer Incendio!” Jaxon watched as Hammer Incendio flew back towards the railing, the gears of its bit engaging and sending the bey flying around the stadium at high speeds, “Xtreme Dash: Hammer…Crush!” Hammer Incendio flew into Buster Dran, the force of the impact sending the blue beyblade flying…towards the edge of the stadium.
Jaxon put his head down, “You’re so much stronger than when I met you Robin…” The bey was almost out of the stadium, “...but you’re not strong enough to beat me yet!” Robin was taken aback as Buster Dran just barely landed in the stadium, using the momentum of the curved edges to pick up speed as it headed for the railing again. Buster Dran’s bit engaged with the rail once again, flying around the stadium despite the loss of stamina, “Come on Buster Dran, let’s show Robin our appreciation for such an awesome battle. Xtreme Dash: Buster!!!”
Buster Dran flew off of the railing, crashing into the weakened Hammer Incendio with the tip of its blade and after a moment…Hammer Incendio was sent flying out of the stadium, landing next to a shocked Robin, “N-no way…”
Multi’s hand went up, “Buster Dran with a Knockout Finish. Jaxon is the winner.”
Jaxon raised both hand in the air, “Woohoo! Oh man, that was such a good battle. Let’s go again.”
Mutil shook her head, grabbing Buster Dran before Jaxon could, “Uh uh mister, I only authorized one battle, not one hundred.”
Jaxon pouted, “Aww but Multiiiiii!”
“No ‘but’s Jaxon. I need to make sure both Buster Dran and Hammer Incendio are in top shape for the title match. Especially with how intense that battle was.” She looked over to Robin, “Speaking of which…how are you doing Robin?”
Robin sighed as he picked up Hammer Incendio and handed it to Multi, “I’ll be okay. I really thought we had him though.”
Multi smirked as she took the bey, “For what it’s worth, your strategy was sound. If it weren’t Jaxon, I’m pretty sure you would have won the battle. You’ve really grown from that weakling who didn’t even know proper launch technique.”
Robin’s head fell forward, “You had to bring that up didn’t you? Always a backhanded compliment.”
Multi stuck her tongue out at him, “Oh please, that was more compliment than backhand. Now then, I think you have something to tell Jaxon, don’t you?”
Robin’s face went white, “O-oh right…” He sighed before muttering, “Can’t believe you’re making me do this.” He took a deep breath before walking over to Jaxon, “Jaxon…I have a really big crush on you.”
Jaxon took a moment to process what Robin just said before looking over to Multi, “Wait you were serious about that?”
Robin’s eyes widened before looking at Multi, “You two talked about this?”
Jaxon put his hands behind his head, “Well…I mean she said that you had a crush on me, but I thought she was joking since obviously your crush was on her.”
Robin paled, “...wait you knew about that too?”
Jaxon raised an eyebrow, “Was it supposed to be a secret?”
Multi cackled as Robin’s head fell, “Now then, with Robin’s embarrassment at its highest capacity I'm just going to put this on the table: Robin has a crush on both of us, but I doubt we have feelings for each other. Correct or incorrect Jaxon?”
Jaxon nodded, “Correct. No offense Multi.”
“None taken. In that case I propose we share Robin, because he’ll never be able to make a decision on his own.”
Robin blushed, “H-hey I could choose if I wanted to!”
Multi shot him a deadpan look, “No you couldn’t. You’d be too worried about hurting the other person.”
Robin sulked slightly, “...okay you have me there.”
Multi looked back at Jaxon, “So? What do you think?”
Jaxon smiled, “No problems over here. Robin’s a cool guy and an awesome blader. Getting to kiss him sounds pretty sweet.”
Robin’s face turned as red as his hair, “Wh-why are you always so straightforward?”
Multi giggled, before turning towards the stairs, “I’m gonna go start working on the beys. You two have fun.”
Jaxon waved as Multi began to climb the stairs, “Have fun Multi!” He turned to Robin once she was out of sight, “So if we can’t battle…wanna make out?”
Robin’s flustered shriek was probably heard by everyone in Xenon City.
