Work Text:

“It's still here!” Patton excitedly pointed at a small ice cream store, ‘Sugar + Choco’. It had mint and pink walls, and an ice cream cone with chocolate, mint and strawberry scoops on it as the logo.

He ran, dragging Roman, since they had their arms linked. He opened the door and heard the nostalgic ring of the bell when they entered.

He grew even more excited when he saw the interior. The decorations, fresh colors, seats, everything about it brought him back to other times where life was easier.

They took a seat on one of the small tables near the window.

“I'm so happy this place is still alive!” He squealed, actively moving his hands, a safe way to let out his emotions.

“I mean,” Roman said, looking around. “I don't think you could call it ‘alive’, there's barely anyone here.” True. Besides them, there were only two other people, one who didn't even order anything and was just on his phone (probably there for the free WiFi).

“Remember when you used to work here?” Patton said, with a nostalgic smile.

“Of course I remember,” Roman said, with a tone mixed in between annoyed and offended, “I needed some money while I made my way up the theater career ladder.”

Roman stood up from his seat. “What flavor do you want, Patton?”

Mmmh…” He thought, moving one hand on his chin to indicate that. “Cookie dough's okay.”

“Perfect.” He said, smiling softly at Patton. God, he loved him so much.

He went up to the counter and ordered cookie dough for Patton and mint chocolate for himself. He cleaned off the sweat on his hands on his shirt, he was getting nervous.

He stood there for a couple of minutes while the employees served their ice cream. The colorful uniforms brought back memories of the shifts he used to work here a few years ago.

An employee handed him both cones and he went to sit down with Patton again.

Patton was clapping his hands excitedly when he saw the ice cream. “Just like I remember it.”

“Yeah.” He chuckled lightly.

As they both took small bites of their ice cream, Roman looked at his partner with loving eyes. Fate had truly brought them together.

“This place brings back so many memories…” Said Patton, looking around the place. “That certain September, I actually came here for the first time because a friend recommended the place to me, so, thank her for our relationship.” He was feeling nostalgic. The place was colorful but a little decayed due to the passage of time, but Patton talked about it like it was some magical, perfect place where your dreams come true.

And for them, it was.

Patton was almost done with his ice cream, so Roman pushed away all nervous thoughts and stood from his seat.

“I'd love to do this in another place, but…” He got down on one knee, pulled a tiny box and said the words he'd been thinking about all day, “will you marry me, Patton?”

Nobody mattered besides them. Right now, they were the only two people on the planet.

Patton covered his mouth in shock. “Oh my God,” he muttered. He chuckled at the cherry flavored Ring Pop Roman used instead of an actual ring.

“Oh my God, yes! A thousand times yes!” He hugged Roman tightly.

He put the ring around his finger and kissed him deeply.

“I will never forget this, Roman.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

This was their special moment, and nobody could take it away for them. It was a funny but meaningful and unforgettable moment for both of them.

And hopefully, after this, more will come.
