Work Text:
It’s a cloudy day on the train tracks out of Smiling valley, and a certain teal schnauzer-terrier mix was on her way to visit her amazing lover.
When they’d come to visit her last, the two of them were making plans for their future together.
Both of them wanted to get married fairly soon, but Viva wanted to meet their family first, to which Bluebell agreed.
(That was the only condition, since Viva didn’t really have any family.)
As the train rolled along the rickety tracks, Viva wondered what they would be like.
Since her tough, hard-shelled tiger had such an intimidating aura, she wondered if their family members would share in being so scary at first glance, or maybe they would be completely different, who knows.
Viva sighs.
She only hoped that they got along with her enough to approve of her marrying Bluebell…
~Train track transition~
When the train eventually arrived at the drab city station, Viva could see Bluebell waving at her from the platform, smiling softly.
When Viva gets off the train, she happily runs to them, tackling them in a big hug.
“I missed you, baby!”
She says, kissing them softly on the cheek.
Bluebell blushes, purring softly.
“Missed you too love.”
(Ik tigers can’t purr hush up
I mean Hobbes could-)
“How have you been?”
Viva asks, pulling back.
Bluebell shrugs, gently taking her hand.
“Same old same old.”
They say, leading her out.
“So, my sister wants to meet up with us at her favorite restaurant for lunch, and then we’ll go back to her place so you can meet my other sister.” They say. “Sound good?”
Viva nods. “Sounds perfect, love.”
Bluebell smiles. “Good.”
~tiger stripes transition~
The couple were standing near a restaurant that was famous for their fried potatoes, waiting for Bluebell’s sister.
“So, do you know if she’s here yet?”
Viva asks, looking around.
Bluebell growl-sighs.
“She was SUPPOSED to be…”
They say.
Viva looks worried.
“She wouldn’t stand us up, would she?”
Bluebell shakes their head.
“She might be a chaotic dumbass, but she’s not THAT mean…”
The two wait around for another minute or two, before finally hearing the voice they wanted to.
“Hey! Bluebell!”
They both look to see a tall-ish dragon-like critter with lovely emerald green scales, medium length plum hair and tiger stripes that matched Bluebells walking over to them.
Bluebell smiles.
“Oh, there you are.” They say.
The girl giggles. “Sorry I'm a bit late, I had to clean up some stuff I accidentally spilled.”
Bluebell rolled their eyes.
“Typical.” They say. “That’s okay though.”
The girl giggles sheepishly, before looking over to Viva.
“So, is this the future wife?”
Both of them blush.
Bluebell nods. “Uh, yes.”
They say, looking to Viva.
“Vi, this is my delightful twin sister.”
The girl smiles. “Name’s Rosie.” She says.
Viva smiles.
“Nice to meet you.” She says. “My name is AquaViva, but you can call me Viva, Vi, or Vivi.”
She says. “Whichever you prefer.”
Rosie smiles. “Cool.”
After the three of them went into the restaurant, they were seated at their table, ordering and waiting for their food.
“So, Rosie…”
Viva says. “How long have you known each other?”
She asks, trying to make conversation.
Rosie snorts.
“Since birth.” She says.
Viva goes pale.
“O-oh right, twins.”
She says. “I forgot…”
Rosie giggles. “Best 2 minutes of my life.”
She says before getting playfully elbowed by Bluebell.
Once they had ordered, they waited patiently for their food.
“So Vivi, what’s YOUR favorite food?”
Rosie asks.
Viva smiles. “I LOVE Mango sticky rice.”
She says, licking her lip. “It’s the perfect flavor blend of sweetness and tanginess.”
Rosie smiles. “Cool.” She says.
When the food arrived, everyone started to enjoy their lovely meals, with Rosie happily chowing down on her fried potatoes.
But all the while, Viva had been wondering something.
“So you’re an Asian dragon…?”
She asks, pulling salt on her food.
Rosie nods, taking a bite of hers. “Yup.”
Viva points to her mouth.
“Um, why don’t you have whiskers…?”
She says, since all the pictures she’d seen of Asian dragon critters did.
Rosie giggles.
“Oh, I decided to cut them off so I could make them into a jump rope.”
“Oooooooh.”
Viva says, understanding. “That makes sense.”
Rosie smirks.
“But before you ask, yes, I am.”
She points to her Kandi bead bracelet, which was a pattern of pastel blue, pink and white.
Viva’s eyes sparkle.
“Oh, that’s amazing!” She says. “Congratulations.”
Rosie giggles.
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
Bluebell takes a sip of their drink.
“So Ro…”
They ask. “Why were you late?”
Rosie laughs.
“Well I was trying to make a fire resistance potion for my friend Anna, but I accidentally used the wrong chemicals, and the whole flask exploded!”
She says. “So then I had to clean it up, which took me like an extra ten minutes.”
(Anna needed it because Simon had a cold.)
Bluebell nods. “Ah, that makes sense.”
Viva, meanwhile, was confused.
“You work with chemicals…?”
“Of course I do!” Rosie says. “I have a PhD in chemistry.”
Viva was mind blown.
“Y-you do…?”
Rosie nods. “Yeah.” She says. “Is there a problem?”
Viva shakes her head. “Oh no, it’s just, you don’t really seem like the type.”
Rosie giggles. “Well, I didn’t study chemicals for years just to show the piece of paper off.”
Viva smiles. “I guess that’s true.”
After they had finished eating and paid for their meal, all three of them were walking down the street, towards where Rosie was staying.
“I’m sure Violet will be happy to meet you.”
Rosie says, walking with her arms behind her neck.
Viva was confused. “Who’s Violet?”
“Our sister.”
Bluebell says. “She’s a bit… different… but I think you’ll get along with her.”
Vivi smiles. “Good.”
When they finally reach the apartment, Rosie opens the door.
“After you.”
She says, letting the couple go first.
They thanked her, and as they were walking in, Bluebell called “Hey Violet, we’re home!”
“Cool!”
A soft, feminine voice calls back.
A few minutes later, she comes down the stairs.
Viva’s eyes widened.
She was… a human…?
A young teen girl, with messy orangey-red hair and blue eyes, with pale-ish skin.
“Vivi, this is Violet.”
Rosie says. “Our little sister.”
Violet smiles and waves.
“Hello!”
Viva’s eyes sparkle.
“Aww, you’re so adorable!”
She says. “And your hair is so pretty!”
Violet giggles. “Thank you!”
She says.
She walks closer.
“So, you’re Bluebell’s wife?”
Bluebell and Viva blush again.
“No, silly billy!”
Viva says, giggling as she gently boops Violet’s nose.
“We aren’t even engaged yet.”
Violet nods. “I see.”
She says. “Hopefully you will be soon.”
Viva smiles gently.
“Yes, hopefully.”
After talking with Rosie and Bluebell in the kitchen for a while, Viva walks into the living room to see Violet sitting on the floor, playing on her PlayStation 4.
She appeared to be playing Bloodborne, running around and slicing enemies into oblivion with her Clever-saw.
Viva looks a bit concerned.
“Um… aren’t you a bit young to be playing that?”
She asks.
Violet shakes her head. “I’m 16.” She says. “I can handle it.”
Viva shakily nods. “Okay…”
She leans over to Bluebell.
“Is she allowed to play that-?”
She whispers.
Bluebell shrugs. “As long as she’s having fun.”
They say.
Rosie nods. “Yeah, she enjoys it a lot.”
Viva looks at the floor.
“... Alright, if you say so…”
She was still a bit concerned, but tried to shrug it off.
If her caretakers didn’t mind, she shouldn’t mind either.
A little later, Rosie looks to Bluebell.
“Hey Bluey?”
She says.
Bluebell looks at her. “Hmm?”
Rosie smiles.
“Can you and Vivi give me and Violet a minute?” She asks. “We need to talk alone.”
Violet looks a bit confused, pausing her game. “We do?”
Rosie nods.
Bluebell shrugs. “Ok sure.”
They say, getting up. “Come on Viv.”
Viva was nervous, but nodded softly, getting up as well.
While they were out of the room, Viva resisted the urge to listen through the door as the girls talked.
“W-what are they discussing?”
Bluebell shrugs. “I dunno.” They say. “Violet is probably begging Rosie to borrow her fuchsia hair mousse.”
Viva gulps.
“I hope so…”
She says, nervous.
Bluebell gently pats her shoulder.
“Hey, it’ll be okay.” They say, giving her a warm smile. “I can tell that they like you.”
Viva smiles a bit. “Y-you think so?”
Bluebell nods. “I know so.”
Just then, the door opens, getting their attention
“Alright, you can come back in now.”
Violet says.
Viva and Bluebell walk back into the living room, sitting on the couch as Rosie and Violet stand in front of them.
“Okay, Viva.”
Rosie says.
“Violet and I have talked it over, and…”
She looks at Violet, who smiles and nods, then looks at the couple, smiling as well.
“You have our permission to marry Bluebell.”
Viva’s eyes sparkle, a bright smile making its way across her face.
“R-really!?”
Rosie nods.
“You’re the perfect mate for them.”
Violet smiles.
“And they’re the perfect mate for you!”
Viva squeals happily, hugging Bluebell, who smiles.
“Thank you thank you thank you!”
Rosie smiles.
“No problem.” She says. “I hope you’re happy together.”
Violet nods. “Me too!”
She adds.
Viva cries happy tears as she clings to Bluebell, who wraps their arms around her.
This night had gone better than she’d possibly expected.
~A week or so later~
Bluebell had been working tirelessly on their engagement ring.
Using pure steel and a small aquamarine they had found in the mineral water mines, they had crafted the perfect ring for Viva, and were planning on using it to pop the big question.
Then, they’d invited her on a beach date, knowing it’d be the perfect place.
So now, they were at Salty shore beach, sitting next to each other on a beach towel, under a flower patterned beach umbrella, Bluebell waiting for the perfect moment.
Finally, the sun had just begun to sink into the turquoise blue waters of the glass sea, when Bluebell took a deep breath.
“Viva?”
They said, getting up.
Viva looks up at them. “Hmm?”
“Can you stand up?”
Viva nods, doing so.
“I…”
Bluebell starts. “I have a question for you.”
Viva tilts her head. “What is it?”
Bluebell smiles softly.
“I… I don’t know how to give a mushy-gushy speech, so I won’t, and I'll just cut to the chase.”
They get on one knee, making Viva gasp and blush, covering her mouth.
“Aqua Viva…”
They say, pulling out the beautiful ring, the light blue gem sparkling in the sunlight.
“Will you be my wife?”
Viva cries, smiling and nodding.
“Of course.”
She says, gently taking the ring and putting it on.
“Oh Bell, it’s gorgeous.”
She says, wiping her eyes. “Did you make it yourself?”
Bluebell nods. “Just for you, my angel.”
Viva smiles and jumps on Bluebell, hugging and kissing them.
Bluebell returns it, wrapping their arms tightly around Viva’s waist, lifting her up.
As the sun sunk fully into the sea, the million stars sparkled above the newly engaged couple, just as brightly as their future together.
