Sickday

Summary:

Young Dark lies about being sick. The staff doesn´t know what to do so it´s up to Krad to nurse his brother back to health.

Work Text:

What a boring day. Dark was sitting in the library refusing to pay attention to his lesson. After all, the royal etiquette was a very boring subject. He looked out of the window. The castle gardens seemed like a great place to chill in and mess around with princess Rosa. He decided to shiver and fake a cough, multiple times. “I am so sorry teacher, I do not feel well.” He then gotten up and collapsed onto the floor.

Krad was sitting in the study. He finally gotten himself a job as the Queen´s doctor apprentice. “The leader is sick!” Dark´s tutor ran inside the doors and slammed them. “The boys health is very rocky. He is sick every 2 weeks.” Doctors reply was cold, but he was worried about the young leader as well. “Every 2 weeks you say? May I help?” The doctor looked at the younger Mousy. The blonde-haired royal was quite deductive. “Yes, is he often sick at home?” Krad nodded as reply to the doctor.

Dark was laying in bed thinking that as soon as the doctor checks him out, he´ll be able to get some free time away from his studies. “How are you feeling?” The doctor asked the leader. Dark coughed when he suddenly spotted Krad. “What are you doing here?” He asked curiously, trying not to break the act. “I am the doctors apprentice; I came here to practice.” Dark was shocked. “What do you mean, you cannot just… become a doctor. You´re a psychopath!” “SHUT UP!” The doctor looked at Krad not expecting the young boy to yell at his sibling. Krad walked up towards the lazy prick with a grin. “Well now that I have grabbed your attention, take down your shirt for me.”

Dark rolled his eyes but done as told, after all Krad couldn´t do much. Doctor sat down next to him, helping the young leader out of the corset and brushed off his long purple hair to the side. “Say ahh.” Krad was checking Dark´s trough, then moved onto his stomach with made Dark even more nervous. “When did this start?” Krad asked his sibling. “I don´t remember.” He lied. The younger Mousy looked at the doctor as he touched Dark´s forehead. “Mine! You are burning!” He quickly took his hand down and shook it. Dark watched in surprise. “I am not the only one who can act, you know.” Krad whispered into his brother´s ear.

Doctor walked towards Dark, re-checking him. The boy felt fine, but it was obvious something was wrong. After all darks had different senses then cat people. “I think my brother needs to stay in bed. I will take care of him.” Krad smiled at the doctor. “Yes, of course.” The doctor was writing everything down, not knowing he was being played by the younger Mousy as well.
Krad shaken a pillow and put it beneath Dark´s head as he then pulled the covers over him. Dark was trying to accept the fact that his psychotic sibling will be taking care of him. Sure, he wasn´t sick, but he wasn´t planning on dropping his act after such hard work. The doctor pat Krad´s head and walked out of the room. “Hey Krad, you never faked being sick?” “Not every 2 weeks!” The blonde was fixing his ponytail. Dark rolled his eyes. “So, what´s your plan now? Telling mom and dad?” “No, that´s beneath me. I have much better idea.” Dark gotten up. “My, my. Getting up so quickly. Do not you think that if you were to ran to our mother´s room your act will be blown?” Krad was right.

Dark sighed again and laid down. “Now you stay here and I will bring you medicine.” Krad waltzed out of the room. Dark didn´t know if he should try to escape or not. His brother seemed way too happy about this. He decided to stay in his bed and think of a plan. After all, maybe he can bribe Krad, or at least try.

“How is Dark?” Their mother was sitting in the garden with the Queen. She didn´t seem to worry as much, it wasn´t unusual for her older son to be sick. “Your majesty. He has a fever but it is manageable.” Krad replied coldly as he bowed before the Queen. He didn´t feel connected to his parents. They only worried about Dark all the time. “I think we should get him a better doctor. After all, your majesty and your daughter are cat people. Dark is a dark. Hybrid beings do not have the same metabolism.” Krad continued. “Now if you excuse me, I am going back to check on my brother. Since the herbs do not seem to be working, we might need to do a phlebotomy on him.”

“SAY WHAT NOW!” Dark was pacing out when Krad delivered the news. “Congratulations you should not have been faking. Now be nice and take this.” Krad was holding a spoon with a green bubbly substance. “Oh, hell no! You can´t be...” The younger Mousy pushed the spoon down his throat. Then took it back by pushing it against Dark´s lips. As soon as the spoon was out, he put his finger onto Dark´s lips. “Now be a good boy and swallow.” His yellow eyes were beaming with joy.
The taste of the medicine was terrible. It even smelled rotten. “What?! Why?!” Dark screamed. “Well… since you wanted to be sick, I have mixed some laxatives for you.” The older one once again jumped on the bed but this time got grabbed by telekinesis and pushed back onto bed. “I have had told you, you are now my patient. So be nice and do as you are told. There will be consequences”
“Dark, sweetie, how are you feeling?” Celeste Mousy walked into the room with tea and some sweets. “Help, I´m being tortured.” Mother placed the tray to the table, rushed towards Dark, pushing Krad out of the way. She brushed Dark´s bangs out of face and put his long purple hair into ponytail. Dark sighed. The laxatives finally kicked in, Dark was sweating like crazy. “My poor baby, do not worry. The doctors will heal you. I am sure.” The mother cried. He immediately got up and rushed towards bathroom. Krad grinned and then turned back to his mother. “He is feeling worse than in the morning. I hope we will get a new doctor for him soon.”

“Damn you, Krad!” Dark´s stomach finally stopped rumbling. He was quite dizzy but scared to go back to his room. “Dark, how are you feeling? Mother said you are very sick.” Rosa ran towards Dark. “Listen, I have been faking.” “Again, Dark you never change.” Dark sighed. “Listen, this time It´s different. Of all the possible people, my mom forced Krad to take care of me. I have a feeling I´m going to die.”

Suddenly they´ve heard a noise. Dark immediately went back to his room and closed the doors. Unfortunately for him Krad was still there. “Looks like somebody is coming. Lay back. I will take care of it.” Dark didn´t want to listen but eventually laid down, pretending to be asleep. Krad instead of going to the doors, kneeled before the bed and pretended to pray. “Krad, why in the hell are you praying?” “You are sick every 2 weeks; the illness is definitely serious.”

“How is Dark?” Nanny walked inside the room. “He is asleep. He keeps on getting worse.” Dark lazily opened his eye and gave Krad a look before closing his eyes once again, praying that his sibling won´t do anything stupid. “I came to give him his medicine.” The nanny replied as Krad got up and sat down in the chair. Not missing out on possible cinematic masterpiece.
“Your highness you need to wake up, I must give you a shot.” She patted Dark on head. The boy kept praying that Krad will do something about it, but his “caretaker” was far more interested on hearing him screaming in pain. “Take it from the positive note, it is just a shot into your stomach not a phlebotomy. That will come later.” “Thanks a lot, Krad.” Dark mumbled to himself before sitting up. “Is it really necessary? I feel so much better now.”

“Your highness, it might be a sweating illness, malaria or scarlet fever.” Dark blinked and looked back at Krad. “You have to be kidding me.” Dark bared his teeth letting the nanny to give him the shot. He didn´t want to make Krad even more happy. She finally patted him on the head as she left the room. “Krad, listen, I wasn´t thinking…” “For sure, you were not thinking.” “Pretty please, I beg you. I do not care if you tell everyone that I´ve been faking it please. You´re the worse person to take care of me?” Krad grinned. “Really? Should I go tell our father?” Dark´s eyes went blank. “You wouldn´t do that… right? You know what. You´re the second worse person…” “Though so.”

Dark sat down on his bed thinking about a plan. His doctor got fired, the new one didn´t arrive yet and Krad was sitting on the sofa watching him. Sure, coming to the Queen and telling her everything would be an option but quite an embarrassing one. Having Rosa tell everything to her mom, would be another option but the Queen was even more strict than his mother. “Do you think the farm is still hiring people? Maybe I can go there for a little while…” “You won´t survive. Have you ever seen a rooster?” Dark blinked. “No, what´s that.” “It is a crazy animal that wakes you up in the morning and screams more than our father when we are late.” “I´m scared.”

Dark has never been outside of the castle. His mother did not let him go anywhere apart from school before she got both him and Krad tutor at the castle. Fortunately for Dark, most of their lessons were separated. He often though that it simply means that Krad doesn´t need school in his life, while in reality Dark was far more academically slow compared to his sibling.

Dark opened the window to get some fresh air. Suddenly there was another knock on the doors. The purple haired boy couldn´t have taken it anymore and jumped down the window. Krad rushed toward him but it was too late. The boy fell down and disappeared. The new doctor walked into the room. For her age she looked really old, the doctor was a heavier woman and she had many wrinkles on her face. “Where is your brother?” Krad sat down on the windowsill. “I do not know.”

Dark needed a place to hide. He was way too scare to let anyone close to him, especially after all the possible sicknesses Krad had named. If he let his brother do the treatment, he would end up dead for sure. He took a deep breath and went to the study. Planning on apologizing to the teacher and begging her not to tell anything to his parents.

“Mrs teacher, I´m sorry.” “Your highness, what are you doing here? The doctor is already waiting for you. Come with me.” Dark leaned towards the doors. “About that, I do not feel sick anymore. I am sorry for making such a fuss about feeling cold.” He continued to lie, not wanting to tell her exactly what is going on. But she grabbed him by the sleeve and walked him to the nurse office.
Dark was scared and trembling. He didn´t like the doctor either, beside Krad was sitting there beside her as well as his mother. “Is it really necessary.” Dark looked at the needle on the table. “I have to check you in order to be sure. Now undress and lay down on the table.” The doctor wasn´t playing around. Feeling defeated, he allowed his mother to help him undress as he lied on the table. Trembling with fear.

The doctor put a black wooden panel around his chest. “This should keep him from flicking. The boy needs to stay still.” She looked into Dark´s eyes before running her hands down the boy’s chest eventually inspecting his stomach. Dark looked towards his mother, but as soon as he noticed Krad he turned his face on the other side. Suddenly he felt a pinch. “He seems quite well, at least he does not have worms or other parasites. His immune system is weak with would explain why he often has fevers. I prescribe him some suppositories.” Dark sigh, he had enough of medications but at least he didn´t have to undergo something worse. He jumped down and let his mother dress him.

“Now I will check out the younger one.” Krad blinked. “Excuse me?” “Krad darling, undress and lay down. We need to be sure, you didn´t get sick from your brother.” Krad took down his clothes and laid on the table. “Your highness, your hands are swollen.” “Nonsense.” Mother came closer to him. “Krad, darling, the doctor is right.” The blond haired blinked, his arms and hands were red. “Did you touch anything dangerous? Like a plant or something?” The doctor kept examining his hands. Krad though for a second. “I worked with Senna plant as part of my studies.” “Looks like you have gotten allergic reacting, you need phlebotomy.”
