Such A Pretty House and Such A Pretty Garden

Summary:

Wanting to spend time with his "dead" lover, Killer goes to the place he loved most.

Work Text:

When Killer came to, he was lying in the infirmary with his thigh bandaged and a splitting headache. He didn't remember much except for what he saw before he blacked out.

Cross.

Killer quickly sat up and frantically began looking around for Cross. Had he dreamed that? No. He couldn't have. He touched him. His mind raced with thoughts as he looked around, praying he hadn't made him up.

But when Cross walked in, his nerves instantly eased and the space seemed to light up. It was like life had meaning again. He didn't try to stop the tears this time as he hugged Cross once he got close enough.

"Aw, Kills. Did you miss me?" Cross's voice was as sweet as honey as he gently brushed his hands through Killer's tangled dark hair, causing him to melt into him and purr at his touch.

"I'm sorry I scared you. I just had to leave for a bit. But I'm back now." Those words... They were like a promise. A promise that he'd never leave him ever again.

Laughter filled the halls as Cross and Killer walked hand and hand, telling corny jokes to make the other laugh. Killer needed to make up for lost time after all. So, he brought him to the once place where he knew they would be able to talk privately.

Cross's garden.

He'd spent weeks planting all those flowers and ensuring they bloomed and stayed alive. But during those three weeks, Killer could only water them twice a week so a few had begun to wither.

Cross didn't blame him though and instead let him lay his head on his lap while he talked about all that had happened in those three weeks he was gone. How everyone had fallen back into their old vices, the fight, how his room had been blocked off, etc.

And all the while, Cross simply nodded along and looked down at him with a soft expression while playing with his hair. These were the moments he'd missed so dearly..

Finally, a few minutes after he'd told him everything, he asked the question. "Why did you have to leave?" The question broke Cross's heart as he looked down at Killer's heartbroken expression. But finally, he spoke up.

"I had to, Cariño." Was all the explanation he gave. He knew it wouldn't satisfy Killer but it was all the explanation he could give for now. Killer seemed to pick up on this and simply nodded instead of arguing.

He adjusted himself so he and Cross could lie in the grass together like old times as the sun shone down on them and warmed their bones while the gentle breeze blew through their hair.

He'd missed this...
