Work Text:

The tour bus was super dark, and all you could hear was the gentle hum of the engine, except for the tiny little light in the back lounge. It was really late, probably like 2:00 AM, but Vic was wide awake. He was tucked in his bunk, trying to sleep, but he kept thinking about Jaime.

Jaime was a machine, seriously. He was always the first one up, even before the sun, and the last one to go to sleep. He was running on fumes, and Vic was starting to worry because he looked so, so tired, both mentally and physically.

Vic sighed, tossing his blanket off. He had to do something. Jaime had promised he’d go to sleep "in a few minutes," but those minutes had turned into a whole hour.

Vic slid out of his bunk and padded softly to the back lounge. Sure enough, there was Jaime, hunched over his laptop, the glow making his face look pale and worn out. He was typing super fast, probably dealing with merch orders because Jaime handled everything.

Vic sat down carefully next to him on the small couch. Jaime didn’t even look up at first.

"Hey, baby," Vic murmured, leaning his head on Jaime's shoulder.

Jaime jumped a little and quickly tried to close the laptop. "Vic! Hey. You're supposed to be sleeping."

"I know, but I missed you," Vic said, gently nudging his cheek. He kissed Jaime's temple. "Whatcha doing that's so important it can’t wait until tomorrow?"

"Just... wrapping up some stuff," Jaime replied, sounding a little nervous. He put a hand over Vic's on his shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. "I’ll be there in five minutes, I promise this time."

Vic noticed the tiny, involuntary twitch in Jaime’s hand. He was exhausted.

"You promised an hour ago, baby," Vic said softly, moving his hand to stroke Jaime's messy hair. "You know I hate being a nag, but you are literally overworking yourself."

Jaime gently protested. "No, I'm fine! Just a busy day. I got a second wind." He gave Vic a smile, but it looked really fake and sleepy.

"Jaime, stop hiding it. You look like you could fall asleep standing up," Vic insisted, but he kept his voice sweet and soft. "I saw you almost fall asleep during soundcheck today, remember? You nearly dropped your bass."

Jaime chuckled a tiny, tired chuckle. "Okay, fine. Maybe I'm a little tired. But I can finish this."

Vic knew he had to be firm now. He slid off the couch and stood in front of Jaime. He grabbed Jaime’s arm gently and pulled him up, bringing him into a tight, cozy hug. Jaime totally melted into it immediately, which told Vic everything. He hadn't known how much he needed the hug until he was safe in Vic's arms.

Vic started kissing him, giving him lots of quick, soft kisses all over his face—his forehead, his temples, his cheeks, and finally his lips.

"You need to sleep. Right now," Vic murmured against his mouth. "I don't even remember the last time we got to cuddle, or the last time I saw you sleep for more than three hours, Jaime."

Jaime was practically drooping in his arms now. He was making quiet, little happy noises into Vic’s neck, the kind of small sounds Vic loved to hear.

"M’kay," Jaime mumbled, already half-asleep.

"See? I told you!" Vic teased lightly, tightening his hold. "You're trying to sleep right here! Come on, let's go."

Vic guided Jaime back down the bus hallway to their bunk. It was a tight squeeze, but they managed to climb in together. The moment they were side-by-side, Jaime instantly turned and threw his arm and leg over Vic, clinging on like Vic was the only thing keeping him from floating away.

Jaime sleepily started kissing Vic, giving him lots of sloppy, adorable pecks.

Vic cooed, "Aww, someone wants kisses!" and kissed him back way more, covering Jaime’s face until Jaime was making little purring noises again.

"You're too much, you know that?" Vic whispered, smiling in the dark.

Jaime just hugged him tighter, his breathing already evening out. But then he tried to push up for one more kiss.

"No more, my love," Vic whispered gently, holding him still. He stroked Jaime's back. "Sleep. You earned a big, long rest. Everything can wait."

Jaime let out a deep sigh and tucked his head right under Vic’s chin. It only took a few minutes of Vic murmuring sweet things—about how proud he was, how much he loved him, and how perfect he was—before Jaime was completely and totally asleep.

Vic just held him tight, feeling his steady, warm presence, and finally, he himself fell asleep.
